My brother-in-law sent me this Ebay link. I thought the Creature-Corner crowd might enjoy it. Make sure to read all the way to the bottom.

Haunted Antique
thats really fucked up. Who buys these things?
Don't know who would buy it. Personaly I'm not that much of a beleiver in the supernatural, though I won't ever say that there is definately no such thing. It is always wisest to keep an open mind.

All I know is the story of this box would make a good movie. And it would be interesting to see what would happen if the box was given to someone who had no idea of it's past, because part of all the unfortunate events surrounding the box could simply be caused by the power of suggestion.
Yeah, is a good idea for a movie or book. Nothing wrong with a good dose of skepticism, but I'd rather play it safe and not purchase a haunted antique or anything haunted for that matter.
ya but that bit of History or story telling got the seller almost $300.00 for that little box.

Behold the power of creative marketing.

Good story, though. If the thing were hand-crafted by witches using wood from an ancient indian burial ground, even I would have put a bid in.

But, seriously, the buyer needs to keep everyone posted. I did notice that the second buyer didn't really mention the "bad dream" that the first buyer's family had all had.

Ahhh, if only I had shitloads of disposable income.

Whether you believe or not, that's a pretty cool story, I love that kind of stuff, gets your imagination working right off the bat.

And as someone said, it's a $290 story.

Bingo.

I don't give a fuck if it's fake or not. I Love stuff like that. Creepy fun stories. I got chills reading that.

good stuff, a worthy successor to the haunted ebay painting...
The haunted painting was terrifying. There's often a 'ghost in a jar' for sale on ebay.
does anyone have a link or more info on the "haunted Painting"
Yeah I wanna see this haunted painting too.

If I had a shitload of throw away money I would have bid on that in a heartbeat.

I have a copy of the ebay "haunted Painting" on the top of my monitor at work right now...

It is a painting of a little boy with life sized female doll standing next to him in front of a huge darkened window - but out of the darkness - there are numerous childs hands scrathcing/tapping at the window...

Creepy enough-

But the story behind it was that on certain nights the paintings owners daughter said that the little girl doll "left" the picture and ran around the house...They set up a motion sensitive camera and sure enough some photos showed the doll in a different color and some pics the doll was gone altogether from the painting...

Do I believe it..Eh...But it still was a cool story and a creepy as hell pic...

I asked the new buyer if he's noticed any "supernatural" phenomena since he bought the box. This is his reply:

Quote:
I have added all the e-mails for you, so please excuse if they don't transition well.

I hadn't expected so many e-mails from such a wide spectrum of people. Most recently interest is coming from the Louisville Hunters Ghost Society in Louisville, Ky, the 100 year old Jewish/Yiddish newspaper Forward, and the Long Island Paranormal Research Group. You may want to read the article this Friday in the Forward http://www.forward.com. The box is currently placed in Museum storage where I think all are safe from its affects and the Dibbuk is safe from us. I can't elaborate right now, but the previous owner is very elusive. He couldn't even see me when transferring the Dibbuk box. Instead it was delivered and payment received - strangely by a middle person. And I have received only one minimal e-mail on who may have bought the box at the auction in Portland. Oddly they (the Mannis family) has vanished from Portland without a trace. The last owner has not talked to his parents much about it, nor roommates and now lives from apartment to apartment as if hiding from someone or thing? Hence my current precautions - not permanent precautions.

Now I must speak on this as a Curator. I have never seen an item as amazing as this artifact. Its provenance and the story details (some not mentioned on the original e-Bay listing) are consistent. Much has been assumed that when you have the box to inspect becomes very clear and very real. I am convinced this is no hoax. The box is legitimate for its time period (late 1940's -50's) and design. The e-Bay images were pretty poor. You have to handle the box to appreciate the weight, construction and even the energy of the piece. You can not believe the interest I have already been receiving. Keep in mind this item had an unbelievable 5,500 hits on e-Bay 2,500 in one hour all by word of mouth and it hasn't stopped. There is more from last night but I need to organize my thoughts on this. I am a Museum Director and collect ancient artifacts and hence have come across several spirits with the items. So far all my suspected spirits are good, as I assume this item could be too. Still, I have no current plans for the item, but it seems many want to have a shot at it. Will keep you posted.

More info.

As mentioned the box is resting for a bit with other artifacts. Except to photograph the box and the contents (all authentic by the way - the hair does sheds a bit) little has been done with the Dibbuk box. Instead the behind the scenes research on the story and original owner(s) is on full throttle. Until all previous statements are collaborated, I am reluctant to put myself, my family or any others in harms way. As a historian and lecturer of ancient art I have a pretty extensive collection of Maya, African, Inca and Native American effigies. Several of these artifacts have proven to be fairly powerful with witnesses. So I don't go into this lightly (as fun as it my sound - I am getting a little too old- and have seen a little too much to be rash with the box).

Updates: I mentioned to some of you that my first order of business with the Dibbuk box is to treat it like any other artifact/antique I find at an auction and I try to disprove it. I am not one to be smittened and believe somethng is tooggod to be true. I go at it that it is a clever fake and I will find the markings to prove it. So...this item has been turned every way and examined with a magnifying glass from top to bottom, inside and out. When I can't find problems due to errors in the story that doesn't match with the object, material construction problems, appropriate natural wear and tear, and clues not mentioned, then I am willing to believe it is what the previous owner says it is. Let me assure you all this is not a faked box, it's impossible to fake true aging, and the collection of materials in the box follow a unique pattern that would be difficult to just happen upon. Also the story has too many truths that can only be found in the most obscure sources being pulled together, every detail to date is correct. So yes this was truly a small Jewish shrine circa 1945-50 probably used for a ritual that follows all patterns of a Dibbuk (possibly) that of the soul of a departed loved one.

I did not want to believe that I would be subject to dreams especially with the box far from my home. Never-the-less, the old woman (not willing to call her a hag), did visit my dreams with hollow dark eyes, wild hair with a blue electric energy, the face would morph from gruesome flesh torn off forms, back into the white haired woman. Let me say this is not typically. I am the kind to have blackness followed by sleep. Later a more restful dream occurred of a more kindly woman helping me in what seemed to be a department store in a town near the Pacific Ocean. She kept returning me to what looked like a large white box on a table. The box seemed to be like the type that would hold a shirt somehow I knew the box ws empty, but she insisted that this is waht I was looking for. I woke and returned to this odd dream three times in a row. It seemed somehow this dream was related to the Dibbuk Box in some way - I am not sure. That's it. I'll keep you posted on the big stuff.

More info.

As I mentioned, the box is not at my home,... but even so I am beginning to feel whatever I bought is indeed trying to reach out. Why I thought I would be so safe at home is that I acquired an unusual juju house protection god from a friend who served in the Peace Corp many years ago around 1987. It has two documented cases of cleansing playful spirits since I have owned it. My rural yard actually surrounds a cemetery which was started circa 1850. Here's a little background from the web on juju gods.

Mojo and Juju.
In New Orleans Voodoo, mojo was a negative and juju was a positive form of spell or hex. This was similar to the difference between Black and White Magic. Gris-Gris, meaning "grey" in French, could be either mojo or juju.

It was a major secret for my friend in Liberia to get and remove the juju from Africa without the villager's knowledge. She contacted a Charlie (peddler) to travel out and find a house god for me. The Charlie returned one year later with the juju that came from Sierre Leone and swore if the village knew he brought this to my friend that both of them would face severe consequences. His parting words were that if bad things start to happen, remove it from the village and bury it. Nothing bad happened and she brought it to me several months later when she returned to the US.

I have felt confident that the juju would do its thing and keep the Dibbuk at bay. Still, I woke this morning, with my left eye blood shot and my right eye looking like somebody poked it good, it was greatly bloody looking pretty bad even after several washings of Baush and Lomb eye treatment. I did nothing to injure my eye before bedtime. I have been tearing from the eye all morning. This can't be allergies, we have 6 inches of snow outside and I haven't been near any animals. The only thing different in my daily routine is that I touched the box last night for several minutes. I briefly rested my palms on the top of the box. The box warmed and seemed to take on a movement as if flowing like water in a plastic bag. The box seemed to pulsate and shift as if you could push it and it would squish with the pressure. I opened my eyes to make sure the box had not changed. Visually it looked the same but with eyes closed it was all different. So yes I touched the box. The wood appears to be a varnished walnut or mahogany, nothing that would cause me to have an allergic reaction. Some joke huh! I had an otherwise calm night. I know I dreamed but in the morning couldn't recall the dreams. They seemed far away. The box is turned and facing another box very tightly so that the doors can not open without turning the box around. I'll check on it later.

There's an interview with the artist behind the 'Haunted eBay Painting' here. He sounds like quite a nutjob.
I just had a look at the "Haunted Painting." First of all, all than the interesting color change of the doll, none of the images show the doll or boy in a different pose.

That said, the painting is really very striking -- particularly the little doll-girl holding a battery. Creepy and nicely executed surrealism. Whoever it bought it probably made a fortune off selling the prints (at $350 a piece!). I'm jealous.

Cool story!

I've got an Episode 1 inflatable Jar Jar Binks chair that I want to unload .... you think I could cook up some story about it being haunted by my grandfather or something? 100 bucks - easy.
I just noticed something. In the picture of the painting where the doll has changed color there are no hands behind the glass.
It's amazing! You take some time to make up a good story and you'll sell your old useless antiques quickly!! Just remember this when selling anything on Ebay. Just say that the owner died in some terrible accident and the item is haunted. You'll double the price in no time.

Pathetic how some people will believe anything.

We left Grandpa alone in the den, sitting contentedly on my new Jar Jar chair, and returned moments later with the tea and cookies. To our utter surprise, Grandpa was no longer to be found. Now, mind you that the only entrance to the den is through the kitchen, where we were fetching the snacks. After searching the entire house for the better part of an hour, we returned to the den, where I noticed something very peculiar about my Jar Jar chair. Sitting on the seat of the chair was Grandpa's old pocket watch, and the scene from Episode I, depicted on the back of the chair, was now strangely different. To my sheer horror, I realized that Jar Jar, who was before a slender -- almost malnourished -- looking figure, had increased noticeably in girth... And a strange smile had come over his face, while his hands now appeared to be rubbing his belly in satisfaction...

I think that's just the lighting. You can only barely see the boy's arm in the photo.

I think thats just because the reddish picture on the left is darker than the others.. The hands behind the window are painted darker than the doll or boy.. If you look at the reddish picture on the right, you see at least 1 or 2 hands there.. I wouldn't even say the picture has changed color. More likely its just been color corrected in Photoshop or the picture was taken under red lights.

Still this stuff is pretty creepy.. Ghosts have always scared me and reading stuff like this gets me pretty good.. Interesting though.

Whatever you believe, those two stories and items are awesome.

Very cool, creepy little stories.

Fun little creepy stories. Dunno if I believe they are real though. Heck, the box story sounds like someone watched a bunch of Friday the 13th TV series episodes and listened to Coast to Coast AM for a month. (Shadowpeople and Night Hags are common discussions on the show.)

Just don't forget to cut me in on a little bit of the action!

For this to really work, I have to be Seller Number 2, and come up with a continuing saga of paranormal mystery after buying the chair from you.

Man I LOVE stories like this. A good thing to perk up your senses for a while. The auction ended on the 9th, so 'agetron' probably has not received the box yet (may not have even paid yet), but I would love to find out if anything happens to him.

Part of me would so love the take posession of the box to see if anything happens, but, then again, most of me is a scared little bitch and scream like a 5-year-old girl if something even remotely strange happened relating to this box.

I also have 4 cats, so smelling cat urine wouldn't be out of the ordinary for me. The "hag dream" will probably happen to me sometime in the next few days, due to the power of suggestion(that happens to me a lot. I hear about a really strange dream someone has, and then I have a few days later).
Yes, he says that he has received it. See my post above. Here is his latest report:

Quote:
I have weeded through the countless e-mails and you all seem to be sincere and more sane than not....

I believe I have found the family that bought the Dibbuk Box at auction, but they are being tight lipped. All I want is the name of the 103 year old woman who owned the box first so that perhaps somehow her request will be fulfilled if things get too messy. Right now I plan on being in Portland June 23 on museum business. I knew of the college kid who bought the box in June, and his six roommates. One of his roommates has worked with me for two years. Lots of trust. That gave me an edge on this Dibbuk box to know it's history day by day since June. Knowing it was real made me confident to bid high on eBay. Trust me it was cheap at the price. The box seems destined for its place in history, (like the Amityville House - which was a true house in Beaver Dam, Wis. and it was the bed that was haunted not the whole house) The box is becoming campus legend and yet it only gets known by word of mouth. I really have no long term plan for the box, I am taking it day by day.

I will do my best to update you, but I ask that you respect that I have a personal life and it doesn't revolve around this box. I collect art/antiques, live in a Victorian home and I enjoy history. I have read all Dan Brown's books (Da Vinci Code, Deception Point, and Angels and Devils) he's a great author his characters are a lot like me. I am curious, but I am as good a skeptic as anyone about spirits. I have to see it to be 100% convinced. My heritage is Czech, and visions through dreams are pretty common with my grandmother, mother, me and my two kids. Maybe that is why I bought the box. My right eye still looks like hell. If it gets worse I'll have to see a doctor tomorrow.

speaking of coast to coast am, i emailed george noory that link earlier today.. didnt think i'd hear anything about it, but a few min ago i just heard him talking about it live on air! he's gonna talk about it more in the next segment so if anyone is reading this in the next half hour or so be sure to tune in to coast to coast!
Yup good story but I mean come on people if it was really haunted dont you think they would make lots of money selling that thing to scientists? Any person who discovers actual proof of paranormal activites would go down in history.
It still makes me wonder who would buy that kind of shit. I mean, if you don't believe in supernatural, why bother? And if you do, does it mean you want to lose your hair, get bronchitis and have 'strange odors permeating your house'?

51 bids??
This is great, thank you guys. Keep bringing this stuff. It is the middle of the day and I am scared.
Well, shit, I would have loved to have bought that.

Unfortunately, my girlie has made me promise not to buy anything haunted or cursed to decorate our apartment.

Party pooper.

I love this kind of Internet stuff.

I post something my brother-in-law sends me and it ends up being discussed on the radio. What makes this extra cool is that my bro-in-law had this sent to him by one of his best friends (who was an engineer on the last David Bowie album). The link was sent to him by Tony Visconti!

REPEAT: I LOVE the Internet.
