Highwaymen Out this Friday?!!

Is anyone aware of this? I hear it's getting dumped in less than 150 theatres and it's only 75 mins long. Jeez, I feel bad for director Robert Harmon. First, "They" now this. The trailer looked promising and Jim Caviezel is great in everything, but it's sad that New Line is dumping this with no promotion and support. I'm hoping "Highwaymen" is like "Below" and "Equilibrium," where deserving films are unfairly dumped in a tiny amount of theaters with no publicity. However, I do remember seeing commercials for both Below and Equilibrium on TV, but I have yet to see one for Highwaymen. I'm surprised New Line isn't trying to capitalize on Caviezel's coming exposure with "The Passion of Christ." Is the film really that bad. I still don't know which cities those 150 screens will be at, but if anyone finds out, please post a reply. And if anyone is lucky enough (or unlucky) to see "Highwaymen" this weekend, please post your thoughts and comments. Thanks!

Only Playing in Texas

Just did some researching and I found this:

Only playing in Texas. Anyone out there in Texas going to watch it?

We've tried to help out New Line getting the word around on this one, and they just don't seem all that interested in promoting it. No idea why, but I guess if it comes out and no one likes it that might be an indication. Though why the hell they would dump it into the laps of Texans only I have no freakin' clue.

Yeah, if anyone from Texas is going to see this this weekend, feel free to write up a review for us!

I saw this last night and I can see where they're giving it this treatment: it's a shit movie. More holes in the storyline then I care you count.

You could tell though that a lot of cuts had been made. I'm not sure if that was where the problems came with or if it was just lazy writing.

MAybe they're just going to test it in Texas and see how it does.

Well, I'm in New Mexico and the screening here last night was pretty full. You would hear a lot of people laughing out when the director wouldn't have wanted them too.

According to Movies.com its a wide release this Friday..

this really depresses me. I wanted to see this movie so bad. Orignally I thought the trailer looked god awful but then it grew on me. Now I want to see the fucking thing and its not even playing here damn it.

This movie wasn't THAT bad... It's basically a decent B movie that is worth a matinee priced ticket. The dialog is god-awful, and yes, there are plot holes the size of the universe. However, it kinda goes from bad to good if you just laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. It's a pretty funny movie - unintentionally I think.

What I did like: the production value (this is a good looking movie) and the deaths are incredibly violent. Not necessarily "gory" but pretty harsh.

Here's a review:

I dont' usually read Variety reviews, so I don't know how much I can rely on. But it seems pretty positive.

I'm amazed there haven't been more "Jesus Built My Hot Rod" jokes made yet.

Hmm,

Still no wider release this weekend. The box office for the 100+ screens it was released on wasn't anything spectacular. But the reviews on imdb seem to be decent, most even positive (bear in mind, these reviews aren't from "well-regarded" sources such as the New York times or anything). From what I read, it seems like a guilty pleasure kind of film. I enjoy "road" films like the Mad Max series, the Hitcher, Joyride, Duel, and 1/2 of "Jeepers Creepers," so maybe this is my kind of movie. If this never comes out on a screen in LA, I hope this film will be out on DVD fast. My curiosity is growing for some reason. Check out the external reviews on IMDB:

Well, maybe New Line will make up for their lack of love for the film with a stacked DVD relese it. Poor Robert Harmon, so much bad luck for his last two films...
why do peeps keep saying "poor rob harmon"?

he seems to not know how to direct very well..

Harmon directs just fine, especially in The Hitcher. His direction of that film is pure brilliance. As for Highwaymen, I'll post my thoughts on it in just a bit when I have more time.
