Fellow Chud horror fans, help me find movie!

i need help.

years ago there was a weird little film/short that dealt with people being sent a letter for an audition and they'd go to an empty house. then the person would start getting chased by the camera and eventually the camera/film would eat them. another letter would then be sent out to the next victim by the film/camera.

does anyone know the title of the film or have any info at all?

thanks in advance.

maybe Tales from the Crypt, sounds like something they'd do
post #7 of 30
I remember seeing something like this. I have a feeling it was Tales from the Crypt.

There's a movie about a camera that eats people? That's my idea. THEY STOLE MY IDEA! Bastards!

Fame, a coy minx she is. She has escaped me once again.

Maybe me and redrabbit can hire the same lawyer and split costs.

Skinner,
Amazing! I've been searching for that short for literally decades. To this day, I still haven't found out the title. I recall seeing it on Showtime as one of their "Showtime Shorts" back in the day ('79-'82). I can't recall the exact year. It was one of notable short films during that time period, such as "Closed Mondays" and "Hardware Wars".

I remember certain details about the movie. The "monster" wasn't made of film - it was magnetic tape (audio tape I think); the kind you'd find on a reel-to-reel. The bundle of tape looked like "The Blob" and was done with stop-motion animation.

The only thing that the blob of tape was scared of was a magnet (which erases videotape), and it would cringe when the potential victim would point the magnet at it.

Man, I'd love to know the title of this film. I submitted it to Joe Bob Briggs "Find That Flick" contest on his site, but I'm not sure if it was ever posted.

Hope this additional info jogs someone's memory.

"Help me find movie!" sorta reminds me of the time that I went into Blockbuster and said "I'm looking for a movie, do you have 'Them'?".
I'm 99% sure I saw this at some point, and after reading this thread I REALLY want to see it again.

reminds me, there was another horror short (from Spain I think) called "The Phone Booth". Would kill to get it on DVD or whatever.

Holy Shit! I saw this movie when I was like 6. It was a short, maybe 10 minutes long. But I remember seeing it on PBS. I think it was shown on 3-2-1 Contact. They mght have thought it was funny but it scared the shit out of me.

3-2-1 Contact did have KISS on it once, after all...

thanks for the replies everyone.

damn, this is really gonna bother me. we need to find out
what this flick/short film was named.

i've even been typing in "killer film eats people" in google, imdb or variations of what people are describing here. i've came across nothing.

i even checked a "night flight" website that lists all the movies/shorts it played and nothing.....

andyl-damn, what you mention jogs my memory even more(not enough to remember the name though! )

soultaker-you may be on to something. it very well may have been one of the "children's shows" like 3.2.1. contact...though it was kinda freaky, i don't recall it being bloody or gory.

i'm off to look for sites dealing with "older" kids tv shows/programs to see if i get a hit....

Skinner,
I tried the Google lookup too - nothing.

Anyone know if there is a database of short films (aside from the IMDB)?

Skinner, can you post that link to the "Night Flight" schedule (or send me a Creature Corner e-mail)? Man, that show was the best. I occasionally work with a producer that used to produce segments on that show back in the early '80s. He met The Thompson Twins and The Eurythmics.

BTW, what was "3-2-1 Contact"? A local kid's show?
a cooler version of Romper Room
I was on Romper Room (local Tampa Bay version) in 1973.
It was on either HBO or Showtime back in the early '80's. They used to use shorts to fill time between movies.

I've searched for the past hour or so and cannot find the name of this short

I don't kow if this will help or not, but I found a link to the guy who bought shorts for HBO to use during intermissions. See here

Here's the part of the article that mentions his name:

Quote:
Shorts are cheap," says Frank Biondi, who bought "tons" of them for HBO in the mid-'70s to fill up intermissions. In coming years, he says, shorts could quench the ceaseless demand for fresh content online. "Most video is owned by existing and/or producing distributors," says Biondi. Web companies that want to distribute conventional TV and film product have to navigate through a tangle of conflicting distribution arrangements. But there are literally thousands of short films floating around without a home -- and nearly as many short filmmakers eager to make deals

andyl-here you go:

http://www23.brinkster.com/nightflight1/shorts.html

i had thought i'd find it there. maybe you can double check, i may have missed it. it seems like a really good site and it may be mentioned somewhere.

whiskey-that's what i'm i'm thinking. hbo or showtime?

bunny-thanks for helping! i'm determined to find this but if andyl has been looking for so long......

it's gotta be out there...someone must know!

gigolo joe-thanks, that may provide a good lead.

feels like we're in our own mystery movie! must.find.clues.

Wow, I've seen this short, too. Back in the day when HBO only had a limited supply of movies to run, they would show shorts in between the features. This was one of `em. I must've seen it at least five or six times, but I have zero recollection on the title. Haven't thought about it in years, but I remember that it did scare the living hell out of me at the time.

Damn, now I too must know the title of this film.
isn't there like some big archive where the stuff that different TV stations show can be had? (maybe for a fee)

i have not given up the search! i may have a HUGE LEAD, wish me luck someone told me he remembers cfq reviewing it around 1980 in one of their issues. Do any of you have back issues?

Hello Cinefantasque Magazine,

This is driving me nuts. I remember years ago a short little horror film that dealt with potential actors being sent audition letters. They responded to these letters to a remote cabin or house. They were then chased by the actual camera/video tape that would eat the victim. I think the tape was shown as a "stop motion" type monster. The only thing it was afraid of was a magnet. After the camera/tape ate the victim, it would send out a letter to the next victim.
Someone told me you may have covered this in one of your issues around 1980 or so.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS, DO YOU PLEASE HAVE THE NAME OR ANY INFO ON THIS?

It's driving me crazy. I have searched high and low and nothing. No google, no yahoo, everywhere. I know this exists, so do other people!

I know this thread is nearly two years old, but just in case Skinner is still agonizing out there, the short he's looking for is "Recorded Live."

La Cabina! Kick ass film.
Wow! Having not seen this thread ever before, it was weird to read how everyone was searching around for this movie, only to get no resolution. Than two years later.. BLAM.. someone's first post answers the question.

So I am going to ask my own question. I too have been searching for a movie that may or may not exist. I was a small child (maybe five or six) and parents went to see Halloween (when it was first released - I think) at the drive-in. I was sent to the back of the station wagon and I fell asleep. I woke up in time to sneak a peek at the beginning of the movie playing after Halloween. I only remember the beginning as I quickly disappeared under the blanket.

Here's all I got: A guy's car breaks down on a dirt road and after trying to fix it, he gives up and start walking. He comes across an old house that appears to be completely empty. He walks upstairs and into an empty room. He opens a closet door and a "naked" mannequin is behind it, he quickly shuts the door only to turn around and see a mannequin in the corner of the room. He goes after the mannequin with the tire iron he is carrying.

That's it, I wish I could remember more. I have been searching for this movie since I was in high school. I never found it and basically convinced myself it never existed (as my parents don't remember it at all), but this thread inspired me to ask.
Can't believe I never stumbled upon this thread before. I also had vague memories of the short in question playing both on hbo or showtime and 3-2-1 contact but never entertained the thought of ever seeing again.

I guess I'll have to run over to Netflix and add the bonus disk of Tremors 4.

Tourist Trap with Chuck Conners. Decent little B-movie horror flick from the 70's.
