For those of you who care and/or are still interested:
Court date was today. My boss tried to make a deal with this former employee a few weeks ago, but he never heard back from her. He left her a message saying something like "I'd rather not take this to court, give me a call and let me know if there's some way we can work this out." He informed me and the guy I worked with about this, so we knew. She never called back so my boss got a lawyer to represent us.
The girl shows up today and says that her chief piece of evidence is the phone call my boss left on her machine. She says that claims that Chris (former co-worker) and I are guilty. The clerk guy (magistrate?) disagrees. From the on in, she's on thin ice. She denies the allegations (from four different people) that we said she had marijuana in her locker. She keeps claiming about what a great worker she was. She keeps bringing up the fact that she's got kids.
And then, at one point she says "Look, I don't even blame these two guys...I don't accuse them of stealing...I'm just accusing them of breaking the lock."
The clerk says: "Actually...you ARE accusing them of stealing and that's why we're here."
Then she starts to panic. She starts saying that we set her up, blah blah blah.
It was all fairly embarrassing, really. Her request for a complaint was denied. End of story.
And still I wonder why she did it? I mean, after it was all over, she tired to shake our HANDS and say that she was SORRY! What? That's right. She wasn't pissed. She said she was sorry. She KNOWS there never was any money...and probably never any weed. Why go through all this? For 360 dollars? The sad thing is, my boss would have given it to her if she hadn't tried to use his phone call as "evidence."
It's a crazy world, I guess.
Now feel free to use the rest of this thread as a drug debate and/or a place to rip on my former employment. Peace out to those who give a shag, and a big thank you for the guys who gave me advice and/or wished me well.
