Larceny Update...

For those of you who care and/or are still interested:

Court date was today. My boss tried to make a deal with this former employee a few weeks ago, but he never heard back from her. He left her a message saying something like "I'd rather not take this to court, give me a call and let me know if there's some way we can work this out." He informed me and the guy I worked with about this, so we knew. She never called back so my boss got a lawyer to represent us.

The girl shows up today and says that her chief piece of evidence is the phone call my boss left on her machine. She says that claims that Chris (former co-worker) and I are guilty. The clerk guy (magistrate?) disagrees. From the on in, she's on thin ice. She denies the allegations (from four different people) that we said she had marijuana in her locker. She keeps claiming about what a great worker she was. She keeps bringing up the fact that she's got kids.

And then, at one point she says "Look, I don't even blame these two guys...I don't accuse them of stealing...I'm just accusing them of breaking the lock."

The clerk says: "Actually...you ARE accusing them of stealing and that's why we're here."

Then she starts to panic. She starts saying that we set her up, blah blah blah.

It was all fairly embarrassing, really. Her request for a complaint was denied. End of story.

And still I wonder why she did it? I mean, after it was all over, she tired to shake our HANDS and say that she was SORRY! What? That's right. She wasn't pissed. She said she was sorry. She KNOWS there never was any money...and probably never any weed. Why go through all this? For 360 dollars? The sad thing is, my boss would have given it to her if she hadn't tried to use his phone call as "evidence."

It's a crazy world, I guess.

Now feel free to use the rest of this thread as a drug debate and/or a place to rip on my former employment. Peace out to those who give a shag, and a big thank you for the guys who gave me advice and/or wished me well.

"I'm not accusing them of stealing..."

That's pretty funny right there.

Glad things worked out for you.

Haha, that girl sounds like a shining member of society.

Yeah, I'm glad it turned out all right in the end, unpleasant as it was in the begining. This is one of those life experiences that are nice to go through now and then, once you are looking back at them of course. The outcome doesn't surprise me in the least with the exception of her not discussing settling out of court with your boss as I would have thought that to be her intention all along. It appears she is more screwed up than I would have originally believed.

You know I have to say, I do feel sorry for her in a way (with knowing next to nothing about her). It doesn't make what she did alright but man, what a poor pathetic wretch. My spidey sense is tingling here, I wonder if she's mentally ill? I also wonder if it eats at her that you appear to have a future and apparently she does not. And she has kids too!!! Yikes.

This is like a Springer update in how satisfying it is to hear that the retarded party involved got what they deserved. Did she even have a lawyer? I'm guess not, otherwise, it probably would've been a tougher time for you guys. Glad it worked out though.

Glad everything came out alright. I had a feeling it would.

Is she hot?

Former employment? Stress of changing the Coke syrup during Friday rush just got to be too much, huh?

I'm going to guess she didn't have a lawyer.

Ain't that the truth.

She didn't have a lawyer. And she wasn't hot.

And she WAS crazy. This is a girl that showed up to work in a dress and a vest/tie. My boss explained to her she needed to wear dark dress pants just like everyone else. She claimed it was against her religion...but eventually gave in. My boss didn't want to fire her for fear of "discriminating against someone's religion."

Anyway, I'm glad that it's all over...

Good for you!

Congratulations, I'm glad it worked out for you. Score one victory for justice.

Hopefully the chick got stuck paying for her and your court costs.

Here's to hoping someone knocks a fece out of her!

I'm glad it worked out for you, but I second the pity for this creature. She's clearly "not the full shilling" as my granny would have said.

I'm surprised she wasn't busted for wasting the court's time. Isn't that covered under Contempt? As for costs, good luck getting those out of her.

I feel sorry for her to, really. During the whole thing I kept thinking..."you're digging a hole for yourself the more you speak." And to think she has kids. I can't imagine what kind of life she's had.

But at the same time, I can't pity her so much. It sickens me that someone can accuse someone else of something with so little proof.

Oh, and just so you guys know, this wasn't a real hearing. She filed an application for a complaint. If the complaint had been granted, THEN it would have gone to a hearing. Therefore, there were no court fees. My work had to pay for our lawywer, and the girl didn't have to pay for anything.

In short, it was just a gigantic waste of time for everyone involved.

I feel sorry for you too. From the sounds of things, she sounds like she'd barely be able to hold down a job (and while she claims to have kids, well, who knows?).

The refusal to follow the dress-code was also weird (unless she was simply too poor to buy dark pants) and possibly, the onus for the situation should fall on whoever hired her. I mean, she must have given references or something, and it's hard to believe she's just falling apart now, though possible.

Parker,

Sorry you had to go through that, but you gotta admit, this is going to be a great story to tell the rest of your life. I also want to echo the above, "thank goodness most criminals are dumb" sentiment.

Thanks for sharing.

It does make for a good story. I almost felt bad when telling all the details to my girlfriend last night. She was laughing at everything the girl said (I left out a LOT of other stuff) and at one point I was thinking..."Man, I'm just turning this into a little story to amuse other people...but this is the girls life."

About the dress thing...it doesn't make a lot of sense. My boss eventually talked her into wearing pants, and she was wearing jeans yesterday. I've seen her come into the movies after she was fired and she wore pants then too. She's just...odd.
