The Bronx assassin's headed down there next friday- i'm staying for a week. Never been there before so I have no idea what to do or where to go- anyone have any advice?

I did find out that there's a Gameworks down there though.....NICE.

If there are going to be any photos of the Con wearing a floral print Hawaiian shirt with short-pants and flip-flops, dammit, I want those pictures.

I was going to say something to the effect of "there's not enough beer in the world" but we all know there is- so maybe you'll get your pics....

I'm about 4 hours NW of Miami.

Dammit Conn, one day.....

One day, Hubris.

So what's the deal? No one's ever been to Miami? These ridiculously bad parody threads can get a million posts but I can't get a response?
Sorry Con... I haven't been there in years. I couldn't tell ya what to do. Just find some good shows to take in. You will after all, be in the death metal capitol of America after all.

You're bound to catch a good act at some point.

Yeah Aghora, I was looking around for some shows, couldn't find anything though. Probably try and get something in.

Ah well. Guess i'm going to have to go on my knowledge of the Bad Boys films for this trip.

I just realized... it's TAMPA that used to be the epicenter for all things sung by the cookie monster.

Still... someone must be playing in Miami. If anything perhaps you can convince a hooker to roleplay Téa Leoni's part?
You are correct, Aghora, The Tampa/ St. Petersburg area is home to some of the best Metal/Hardcore/Punk clubs in Florida.

See Connigit, you need to change plans and come up this way instead of going all the way down to Miami. Only thing down that far is drag queens and cuban resturants. Or is that why you're going down there? Hmm......

Wish I could, my man. But my free place to stay is in Miami. At least this way I can compare how realistic Vice City is. And how cheap the hookers are compared to Hunt's Point.

So i'm headed off at 8 am. Just spent the last couple hours burning cds for the trip (Dying Fetus, Immolation, 25 Ta Life, Onyx, Cake, Jackie Brown Soundtrack, Demolition Hammer, etc.....aww yeah.), and i'm ready to lay on the New Yawk accent thick. First vacation i've had in 3 years, so yeah, i'm excited.

See you guys in 6.

Wasn't that the group that did "SLAM! Duh duh duh, duh duh duh, Let the boys be boys!" ?

Hells yeah. And the remix with Biohazard. That cd's a classic- Bacdafucup.

Their song Atak Of Da Bal-Hedz became my theme after I started shaving my head.

God dammit.

Sorry I didn't catch this thread earlier, Conn. Those IT son of a bitches at work have deemed CHUD inappropriate for workplace browsing, so I've been out of the loop.

If you have Web access, e-mail me at giovanni.angles@bellsouth.com. I just used up most of my "guy's night out" points thanks to a Hold 'em Tournament yesterday, but maybe we can hang out one of these days you're down here.

Definitely go to South Beach, though, and prepare to feel like you're really in Vice City. Two of the malls over towards the north end of the beach (Shops at Bal Harbour and Aventura Mall) are also very well represented in the game. The island where Diaz has his mansion is modeled after Star Island, which you can see as your driving down the MacArthur Causeway on the way to the beach, so you can do some kind of a simultaneous Vice City/Bad Boys II experience.

If you haven't left yet, reply here, but feel free to e-mail me anytime this week (off tommorow) if you get a chance. At the least, I just gave my tiny apartment a good cleaning, so you can come over one day to watch a movie. It's been a while since I've blasted my HT.

in Fort Fuckin' Lauderdale here, wish eyed caught this sooner, course i'm broke and all, but whatever, pm me if you're still around, places i'd recommend other than south beach, although sittin' on the beach with a cocktail watching the girls go by is is ohhhhkay:

Parrot Jungle - new and improved, just relocated...
the Rascal House - it's no Katz', but it's the closest thing around here, lots of old people, but they still make a mean reuben, as long as you like the corn beef juicy like Lucy...
the Keys - if you have access to a car, go down for a day to Islamorada or Holiday Isle or Key Largo, it's only about a 45 drive from miami...
Circus is in town still i think - Barnum and Cirque...
Riverwalk i hear is cool, shops and crap...
Deep Sea fishing - charter boat style, usually pretty cheap for a few hours, if you catch stuff you can bring it home or sell it at the dock...
also note: wedneday nights are ladies drink free nights at a lot of places case you plan on going clammin' for the strange...

Demolition Hammer!!!!!!

I saw them in Detroit at the now no longer there Marquee with Deicide and Cancer in '94!

Great fucking show. I got to meet Glenn Benton. That's an honest to god upside down cross burned into his forhead. I used to assume it was fake... then I met him.

He was nice enough though. Signed my jacket and ticket stub he did.

Ahhh.... wish I had been able to get on the internet down there, dammit. Thanks for the offers anyways, guys. I had fun down there, and I did spend a few nights out on South Beach, and although that whole club scene really isn't my style, I had fun. It's pretty crazy how I knew the layout of the area from Vice City. Freaked out when I saw that store that you get Vercetti's suit....heh. Of course I did the whole tourist thing too...went to Lincoln Park, Seaquarium, etc. Also took a trip all the way down to the bottom of the Keys for a day.

Fun place. I was actually staying in Aventura, which has a pretty cool mall- saw The Passion there wednesday.

Things I learned down there-

-It's too fucking hot.
80 degree weather is cool and all, but in the middle of the winter? Not for me...

-Florida chicks dig NY accents.
I was pulling out all my great Bronx stories, love it how freaked out some people looked.

-Mexican Beer is great.
I was drinking Negra Modelos all week. Had some great mexican food down there too.

-No one walks around.
You bastards don't know how make sidewalks? I almost got plowed by your crazy old drivers at least a half dozen times.

-Spanish is as widely spoken as english.
Don't go to Miami without at least some knowledge of spanish. I would've been so lost if I didn't understand it a little bit.

-Hot Topic is never a good place to ask about local shows.
Hey, I was desperate, alright?

Oh and Aghora- too cool. They touring for Time Bomb? That was a godly album. Decide was from Tampa, right? Next time I take a trip I gotta head down there...

(edited because I wrote "Negra Mollenos"...damn, never going to find those beers up here...)

I get impatient with the stop and go sections of US-1, but it's a hell of a nice view most of the way.

Not only is it a cool mall, but it's yet another picture perfect model that was used in Vice City. Aventura = North Pointe Mall. Huge open spaces, with two floors of retail stores, with crisscrossing escalators scattered throughout.

Down here, just about every day is "shorts weather".

Public transportation is also shit down here. We follow the So-Cal philosophy, which I can't stand.

The amazing thing is that you mostly went to places that are generally considered light populated with the "Spanish only" group.

I don't know where you ate when you were down here, but the only thing I think you may have missed out on is a sampling of Cuban colada from a local cafeteria. It's the strongest, sweetest coffee known to man.

Ah well, hope I catch your farewell message a little sooner next time. I read your post mere hours after your last reply. Glad you had fun, though.

Holy crap, I didn't even realize that. Really have to play through that game again now...

Yeah, and being that I don't drive, I had to rely on people for rides. But I was walking distance from the Aventura mall, at least.

A lot of hispanics think I am also, so that might be why everyone talked to me in Spanish. Didn't bug me any, just found it funny.

I missed out on that....I went out to eat pretty much every night, don't even remember the names of all the places. The best meal I had was actually at the Aventura mall- that mexican restaurant across from the Cheesecake Factory...forgot the name. Some great chicken (er, Pollo), mexican beer and Mariachis. Also a plate of the best quesadillas i've ever eaten. Too good. Food was perfectly spicey....cute little cuban waitress too.

Thanks. I'm actually looking into heading back down there this summer, if my friends pull through. Not sure what part we'd head to, though....still want to check out Tampa.
