Why I lurk

1. I'm rather shy.
2. Often when I see a thread that in which I might like to post, a point very similar to mine has been made, and I don't like to be redundant.
3. Even if I can't think of anything useful to add to a thread, I can often find things about which to laugh out loud.
4. There are some very intelligent folks posting in on these boards who could easily rip me to shreds with their arguments.
5. There are some very stupid people posting on these boards who could easily rip me to shreds with their ignorance.

and finally, last but not least.........

6. Y'ALL ARE MEAN!!

1. I think that's why internet message boards were created
2. Depending on whose comments you mirror, we are either in the company of brilliance or...
3. Sometimes a thread is a spectators sport.
4. It means we love you.
5. Not impossible, inevitable...
6. Bitter, petty, low, obscene, arrogant, righteous and vulgar. But mean!? Never...

Oh yeah, welcome aboard!

That's never stopped anyone before.

Don't worry about it.

We've all had our rabies injections - except for Devin. But he's so old, and eats so much sugar, that his teeth have fallen out anyway.

Thanks for the welcome. It sucks being new to a neighborhood, especially when I can't very well go door to door with a bundt cake or a jello mold and introduce myself.

I'll try to swallow my inate fears of rejection and jump into a discussion once in a while.

I lurked for a long (LONG) time for some of the same reasons. It helped to start off in the video game board (where I actually know what im talking about) and sort of slip into the other boards (where I often dont).

Yes, I'm going back to lurking. I might come out in a year or two.

Don't be shy. I leapt in right away with intelligent, stupid and redundant comments of my own.

If you don't have something useful to add to a thread, just find a humorous picture of a celebrity to post. It's worked for me!

Sure, but you could use reasoning like that for anything. Don't let it stop you. Try posting more often, you might like it.

(posting "correctly" isn't a requisite, but trying to have fun is)

What makes you think that anyone else here knows what they are talking about?

I generally just get drunk (tonight’s tipple is French Fink Brau (!) beer); bang my fists against the keys, and whatever appears on the screen I stand beside.

It's stopped me for years. It's the reason I don't post in the main forum. It seems silly to jump into a lengthy thread to add my point when it's already been made three or four times (at least!) by other people.

That's what I did. I pretty much posted a lot in the Chewers Be Damned thread until people got acquainted with me and now...I have a fan club.

ah, don't worry. nobody here knows you anyway, so whatever you write, it can't haunt you back IRL. in any case it takes time to get noticed, so even if you post something really dumb, nobody's gonna remember that when you switch to another post. just take a look around, post something every now and then and don't annoy the veterans (i'm not one of them unfortunately, but maybe in 20-30 years, who knows...)
