Pre-Release EuroTrip Discussion

Thread Starter
Never in a hundred years would I have expected this to be half as funny as it was. Expect the following:
  • More nudity than I've seen on film in a loooooong time.
  • Funniest bits about email notifications and cell ringtones.
  • No punches pulled.
  • Laughing too hard to hear important dialogue.
  • German children that are too fucking funny for words.
  • More nudity.
The director, Jeff Schaffer, wrote the screenplay for The Cat in the Hat, but this thing is worth seeing. The acting's good too. As is the nudity. Except for some of the nudity. The zombie nudity. Funny, but bad in a bad way.

Oh, and to Tim at 96 Rock: Fucked up. Too far. Horrible, even. (See, the local radio station had an X-Box to give away before the film. So they brought down male/female brother and sisters and had them open-mouthed kiss to see who got it.)
Don't forget, Andrew...they were into it, too.

Despite that horror, this movie was amazingly good. One of the best comedies I've seen since I don't know when. It's got enough subtle shit and sight gags to reward repeat viewings, and more male and female nudity than pretty much every mainstream film of the past 4 years put together.

Honestly, if you don't love the Paris and Amsterdam segments of this film, maybe comedy is not your forte. Some great stuff in there for all types and tastes.

One thing, tho....Michelle Tractenberg. Still waaaaaay too young and bony to be sexualized the way she was here.
While I've always found Michelle Trachtenberg to be the next Hilary Bynes Lohan, she's starting to grow on me. Even if her nose is really strange looking.

For the sake of research, exactly how much male nudity is there?
I was convinced this was an epic piece of shit since they had to change the name to Euro Trip and name-drop the producers of Old School to get anyone's attention.
Felt the same way, Bateman, but I think it's a better movie than Old School or Road Trip. Seriously.

The male nudity is contained to a segment, but damn....you enter a world of cocks for that few minutes.
I was beginning to think Clerks: TAS was a complete fucking fluke.

Don't forget SJR's Michelle T interview

http://www.chud.com/news/feb04/feb17euro.php3

I feel she has SMG's bitchiness but I don't care. Can't wait to see this movie. And Michelle isn't bony. She has a dancers body and is still way hot. Love the Euro poster-alot like I Know What Jennifer Love Hewitts Tits Did Last Summer.

Not bony?

You can count her MOLECULES in this picture, much less her ribs.

I mean if she gets your engine running, the bathing suit scene pictured above is wank material, I suppose, but the movie has much better bodies/tits/chicks in spades, and they don't have tops on.
Hmm... I had dismissed this movie before I saw it... but I still don't feel like shelling out 6.50 for it. Seems like the kind of thing I'd rather rent.

Limited budget. You all know how it is.
This is an audience movie, through and through. Seeing it on cable or at home with a friend or two just isn't the same.
Berg/Mandel/Schaffer have serious pedigree. They spent several years writing for SEINFELD, and claim Larry David as a mentor. They've more than paid their studio dues. Expect great things from them in the future.

Oh, and the movie is far more entertaining than you'd expect. It's no classic, but it's very well-executed.

I have a feeling I'd have laughed a lot more had I not been surrounded by geriatrics.
Had a good time at this one. Lots o laughs. A little too sweet natured for its own good and I wish some of the cut out bits, on display during the credits, had made it into the final cut of the film. However, some very big laughs.
Was the train scene with Fred Armissen (possibly one of the few few funny things left in SNL) funny enough to warrant it appearing in every commercial for the movie? Is there at least some tiny part of it they haven't shown yet?
They show pretty much all his stuff in the preview.
This movie was hilarious (And I second Micah's sentiment that a good audience adds a lot to this), much more than I was expecting. There were actually funny parts that weren't in the trailer - with all the hoohah about The Dreamers rating, it's amazing this got only an R. "A festival of sausages"

I think the AMERICAN PIE movies boast some pretty shoddy gag writing. I'll take EUROTRIP over all three of those movies. I'd put it on the level of OLD SCHOOL, minus a sparkplug like Will Ferrell to elevate it to occasional comedic brilliance.
The only thing i want to know is if Mandel appears at the end of the movie, telling me 'thanks for watching'

That would be a wonderful treat.
Mandel rocks!!!

On the level of OLD SCHOOL? Yuck. I thought that movie was pretty flat. Not terrible or anything, just not funny.
There's something after the credits, but they're not named Mandel.

There's one other guy in Michigan that agrees with you. Did you guys start a club yet?

You're not alone. Old School did absolutely nothing for me, but I'm really looking forward to catching Euro-Trip. The positive word of mouth on this movie has piqued my curiousity.

Harsh, considering OLD SCHOOL, while funny, is FAR from a classic.

I'm seeing EUROTRIP on Thursday, and I am viewing it with a critical eye, being that the script for the film set off a studio bidding war and eventually was purchased for a stunning $3.5 million. I'm a screenwriter, so I suppose I'll be seeing what sells the biggest in my field.
Thanks for the passes Nick. I got to watch it last night and like Andrew said it was a lot funnier than we expected. There were a few very well done cameos. Definitely worth watching in the theater.
I haven't laughed this hard at a movie for quite a while. Lots of great gags and a couple of cameos that thankfully haven't been given away by the commercials yet. Whatever movie these guys do next, I'll be first in line for it. Really, really fun stuff.
Maybe, but the song was great.

How about not giving anymore of them away? How about that?

neo_wolf, go away. Don't come back. Giving that out isn't right.
Wow. This movie looks really bad. It'll take a lot of energy to convince someone else to see it with me. You guys sure it's the right call? That lame gay Italian on the train joke in the trailer is simply NOT FUNNY. And I hate the way they're selling the thing, as if saying "LOOK, Europeans are WEIRD! They're DIFFERENT and they're WEIRD! They didn't support our insane WAR and we ban their FRENCH FRIES and their WEIRD!"

And Old School had it's moments, but it certainly is not a classic.
If you don't enjoy it, Micah will personally refund your money. In fact, that goes for everyone on the boards.
Hey, all I know is that the ATL chewers - hardly uniform in our theatrical tastes - all enjoyed the hell out of it. Don't go by the trailer. A lot of the gags there need to be seen in context for them to work, trust me.

Good enough for me. Looks like I'll be seeing it this weekend.

Couldn't agree more. The jokes in the trailer are cut to appeal to the frat boy in all (most) of us, but in context, the train jokes are funny as hell.
Thanks for the good word, guys. I was wavering on whether I should check this one out this weekend, but your words pretty much seal the deal.

Addtionally, this flick only cost $20 million to make and looks really good for it. Figures aren't out for marketing costs, but I would bet this thing will do pretty well this weekend.
I think it will probably do well with the kids, but it's gonna have some stiff competition from "Welcome to Mooseport". Everybody loves Raymond.
I've got an interview up with Berg/Mandel/Schaffer at AICN. Of course, you'll need to get the site to load first...

Hmm, a movie with Ray Romano, or a movie with lots of nudity, drugs, and underage hotties? Somehow I doubt "Mooseport"'s going to be much of a threat. These days, the "kids" are the only audience that matters. Older people don't go to that many movies on average, and they're not a desirable demographic.
Plus gross-out humor will always win out over subtlety. Remember, you'll never go broke catering to the lowest common denominator.

That being said, the movie WAS pretty funny.

Just to point something out: The cameo mentioned in that post is featured in the PRESS KIT for EuroTrip. Yep, right there on the DVD-ROM. And a photo of the cameo is on the IMDB website. So it's not like the creators have erected security fences to keep this a secret.

And they're handing out the press kit to filmgoers? Making them readily available in malls and restaurants? I'm just asking here.
Yep, they're giving out free Euro Trip press kits to any Pizza Hut customer who purchases a personal pan pizza!
I will say this: Old School's brief nudity quotient was so timid and tacked-on that it just annoyed me. This movie at least seems to have the guts to go all-out a la Porky's. I hate how people yack on about "American Pie" and "Old School" being all raunchy when they usually feature ONE brief scene of female nudity. For crying out loud, there are PG-13 movies from the early 80s that feature almost as much.
Last time I checked, any filmgoer could look at IMDB's photo galleries. And any filmgoer who frequents CHUD probably does.

I'm just saying, the cameo exists, and there's the photographic proof, sitting out there on IMDB waiting to spoil.
If you watch this movie and Michelle Trachtenberg gives you a stir in your pants, you're lusting after jail bait. I know she's legal now but she just turned 18 back in November (a month ahead of me). This movie was shot probably last year which means she was not yet legal. And besides she looks like she's 14 years old for god's sake!
Yeah, the ads and trailers did absolutley nothing for me, but the movie surprised the hell out of me by being pretty consistently funny. Overall a very solid comedy that deserves at least a matinee viewing.
