Will Ferrell Quits SNL

Posted this in TV, big enough news to be here:

DROPPING OUT: After seven years, Will Ferrell has elected to quit Saturday Night Live to pursue a film career, the Los Angeles Times reports. Best known for his dead-on impersonation of President George W. Bush, the 35-year-old comic will make his final appearance on the May 18 season finale — reportedly hosted by alleged shoplifter Winona Ryder. Note to Lorne Michaels:

Good he is much to talented to be wasting away on increasingly poor material. Lets hope he finds a good career someplace else.
I have a friend who works on the show. He tells me this has been coming a long time.
Good for him. The show will reek 8000 times worse now that he is away. The only reason to watch SNL is gone, and I for one am most happy.
[sarcasm]
Wow, whomever will they get to play the one character he always plays when not playing Bush?

but... the alex trebek.... no... what's going to become of that?

lets hope for a final jeopardy skit on the 18th.
I'm sorry, but this is truly sad news.
Now there's absolutely no reason for anyone to ever tune in to SNL, ever.
They should do a whole movie with him as James Lipton.
....Well i guess there's no reason to watch SNL anymore.

The reason to still watch SNL = TINA FEY
Amen...although I'll add that Fey and Fallon's Weekend Update is now the one good reason to watch SNL in 15 years, and stuff like pairing Gay Hitler with Neil Diamond - or the Tina Fey Android - had me doubling over more than anything Ferrell's done lately.

That said, Will will be sorely missed. Just no follow-ups on his Zoolander character, please...

What happened to her!?

Al Pacino?
He never made me laugh and now it's that much easier to avoid him. Hooray!
My dear god...he has been the ONLY funny thing on SNL for the past few years, so this sucks.

Now i'm done with the show, probably...
Will Ferrell is genius and a very unique comic. I'll miss him big time and I definitely think that he has a place in films. Good luck to him.

But the ONLY good thing about the show? That's pretty extreme. It seems like its always the cool thing to do to belittle the show as "unfunny" even as we all tune in and laugh every Saturday and during reruns. There are still some very good sketches coming out from there and some really good other performers. Tracy Morgan, Chris Kattan, Horatio Sanz, and Tina Fey are all the reason I need to keep watching the show.
One really funny moment is when Will Farrel was on Conan dressed like a leprachan with his belly sticking out. "I'm here to put the SEX back in S.T Patricks Day"

Classic.
It's Kirby Day on SNL this weekend.
I'll bet...Who's the musical guest?
ryder is scorching.

saturday night live has always has weekend update, which is always worth watching. even if you just tune in at 11:55 or so when it comes on, it's worth it i think.

i thought the show was coming back and then i see the stroke and jack black on a show, and... wow. such a disapointment. not even jack black could save the material.

sir ian hosting was a fantastic episode...

Farrell seems a brilliant sketch actor, but his film work is lacking (though I found him amusing in Zoolander). You have to get off SNL before ending up the equivelent of Tim Meadows, but I think he will be much like Dana Carvey in that they'll give him a movie or two, then a TV show or two, and then no one will know what to do with him.
I think they should just cancel SNL and continue showing re-runs of the show in it's glory days on Comedy Central. Oh how I miss Chris Farley and Adam Sandler.
Hexum, I was tempted to groan when I saw the words "glory days", thinking you were gonna go on about Eddie Murphy or something...

I was glad to see instead the Farley/Sandler years were what you were thinking of. I will say it a thousand times, Chris Farley's death was like one in the family for me. Those were the days...
Answered my own question when I saw that Eminem is the musical guest.

Dunst and Em? Good ep.
Now there really is no reason to ever watch that show again. It was really bad with him,so it will only get worse. Though, he did bring more comedy then anyone else on the cast.
I can only handle Will Farrell in small doses (the "ecstasy cereal" commercial cracks me up everytime), but a movie starring him...I don't think so.

Let's look at some of his filmography:
A Night At the Roxbury
Superstar
Zoolander
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
The Ladies Man

All less than quality performances.
Yes flyers, Dunst and Eminem. What could be better for me?

Maybe Jessica Alba and Placebo or Kelly Ripa and Radiohead.

Eminem was awesome last time he was on SNL.
Yes, I'll definitely be watching. The only way it could be better is if one of the two were swapped with Weezer, Beck or Jim Carrey. But hey, I can definitely enjoy Dunst and Eminem...
The "Blue Oyster Cult: Behind The Music" skit is one of my all time favorites.

"-Can I just say one thing? I'm standing here, staring at Bruce Dickinson! And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell! And, Bobby, you are right - I am being selfish. But the last time I checked, we don't have a lot of songs that feature the cowbell.

-I gotta have more cowbell, baby!

-I'll be doing myself a disservice, and everybody in this band, if I don't perform the hell out of this.

-Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription.. is more cowbell!"

Farley and Sandler are the glory days???

Son, there haven't been "glory days" since Crystal and Guest left the show.
I even know that, and I can't be much older than him.
I don't think I was alive when those people were on SNL Poxy, sorry. But as for the SNL's that I'VE SEEN(which are many), the glory days are Farley and Sandler, or to me at least. I'm sorry if I don't share the same tastes, or experience, as you.
The moments that made me laugh the most when I watched SNL were of Will Ferrell's skits.

Some of my favorite stuff he has done in the years:

Celebrity Jeopardy- "I hate my life." And basically just all of his exchanges with Sean Connery.

"Get on the bag!....get on the bag!....I will tie you to a pipe in the crawlspace if you don't get on the bag!"

"Get off the shed!......I will punch you in the face!!..now get off the damn shed!"

Doing Dan Fouts (former Monday Night Football host) "Well Al, if the quarterback can snap the ball, throw it and get it into the hands of the wide receiver who is already running down the field, and then that reciever gets to the end zone, he'll probably have scored a touchdown" or something like that.

As the guy who can't stop shouting (Jacob Silj, I think)...

"IMAGINE, ROCKING YOUR DAUGHTER TO SLEEP, "GO TO SLEEP, DADDY LOVES YOU" OR BEING AT A PARTY TRYING TO SING ALONG TO "A LITTLE BIT SOFTER NOW, A LITTLE BIT SOFTER NOW"."

Harry Caray:
HC: Hey! What if they cloned a dinosaur?...Would ya' eat it?
R: You know, I haven't really given it much thought.
HC: I know I would. Char broiled dinosaur covered in gravy. Side of curly fries. I bet they'd call it the Dinosaur Special.

The Robert Goulet skits ALWAYS made me laugh...

In other words, this guy always brought a smile to my face and I think i'm gonna cry when he actually leaves.
For me, the glory days are the 90's. All of the Chris Farley/Adam Sandler/Kevin Nealon/David Spade/Norm MacDonald era. And leading into Will Ferrell/Cheri Oteri/Tim Meadows (even though he wasn't that funny)/Tracy Morgan/Jim Breuer. They are all the best for me.
will ferrell's neil diamond. genius.

"This song reminds me of my hatred for immigrants!"

"This song was written about the time i hit a kid in Carolina with my van and kept on driving!"

god bless.

I have about a dozen of these downloaded onto my computer.

Trebek: What is the sound a doggy makes?
Connery: Moo.
Trebek: Wrong. We would have accepted "bow wow" or "ruff."
Connery: Rough. Just the way your mother likes it Trebek!
------------------------

Connery: I'll take "Famous Titties" for a thousand.
Trebek: That's "Famous Titles" not "Famous Titties."
Connery: Not a fan of the ladies, are you Trebek?
------------------------

Trebek: Welcome back to Jeopardy. Let me remind the contestants to refrain from using ethnic slurs.
Connery: Look at you with that day-glo moustache and greasy hair.
Trebek: What did I just say about using ethnic slurs.
------------------------

Trebek: Mr. Connery, the board is yours.
Connery: I'll play your game you rouge.

I could go on all night. eek!
day-glo? Right on. "Hey Tony, get yo day-glo ass in here!"
"I'll take Anal Bum Cover for $500!"
"That's 'An Album Cover', Mr. Connery."

Thoomp thoomp--thoomp thoomp thoomp--thoomp thoomp thoomp thoomp. Dog Show!

And I think Will Ferrell is funny as hell.
I'm pretty sure it was Burt Reynolds who said "Anal Bum Cover" and not Connery.
Fairly sure it was Connery. That's his gag.
The ONLY glory days were Belushi, Ackroyd, Chase, Murray, Radner, etc. Everything else is also-ran.

You young people ain't got no perspective...
Have any of you guys seen that cartoon The Oblongs? It's pretty damn funny! It's about a family who's all messed up cuz of toxic waste and Will is the quadrapeligic dad who manages to drive a car and stuff! Ha ha ha ha ha!
Connery said "anal bum cover". Definitely.
I got love for the old days, but you can't overlook the talents of Hartman, Farley, Hooks, Carvey, Meyers...could go on and on. Even the new cast is loaded with funny folks. Mya Rudolph and Amy Phoeler are (new word here) supergreat. Sanz, Fallon, Fey...
Don't knock the Anthony Michael Hall days...
1. Tina Fey is hot.
2. Winona Ryder is HOTTER.
3. Eminem is the Mark Twain of his generation.
4. Kirsten Dunst was not a very good Mary Jane Watson.
5. Will Ferrell is the fucking MAN.
1. Your
2. Lists
3. Suck

...and nobody did "crazy eyes" better than Ferrell. His Ted Kaczinsky was priceless.
1. Don't
2. List
3. Bash

Especially against the Hardcore wink

You're right. I was thinking of "Ape Tit."

Anyway, here's another great bit where Connery makes fun of Trebek:

Trebek: And finally, Sean Connery is also here. Let's move onto Double Jeopardy..."
Connery: Not so fast, Trebek!
Trebek: I really thought that was going to work.
Connery: Well you were wrong you montebank. I pose a conundrum to ya. A riddle if you will.
Trebek: I don't want to hear it.
Connery: What's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold? One's a sick duck and I can't remember how it ends but your mother's a whore!
Trebek: *in his most brilliant deadpan face* Wonderful.
Aside from the Jeopardy skit and the Neil Diamond one, this sucked as a going-out episode.

Where was Robert Goulet?

Where was anything else that was funnier than the "Love Tub" or singing at a wedding??

Now i'm even sadder to see him go.
