Question about Japanese plugs

Hi. Stupid traveler question that Radio Shack COULD NOT answer - geniuses that they are. I am bringing my laptop to Japan and the plugs are the same - A1 - from the U.S. to Japan. However, as opposed to the 110/120 volts in America, Japan is a 100 volt outlet kind of land. I would not assume that that would do anything too dreadful to my laptop, but assuming is, well, the way to ruin. Is it true? Can American products simply plug into Japanese outlets without needing a converter?

You should be able to pick up an all-purpose convertor at the airport, with different sections for different countries. I picked one up back in '97 and never looked back.
