Any Good Banned Horror or Jap Films?

Hey everyone!

I have enjoyed Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters 1 and 2, and also the japanse film Audition. I was just wondering does anyone know of any good banned horror or japanse films that are worth buying and adding to my DVD collection?

Thanks for the help

I'm not one to play the race card, but you do realize that the term 'Jap' used in your thread title is considered a racial slur?

Sorry, I didn't mean Jap as racial. I just used it for the title as I am not sure how long thread titles can be. I didn't think anyone would have thought I was being racial.

Sorry again

I'm not one to play the anal card, but you do realize that the term 'bacon' used in your post is considered a discriminating slur against the fine career that is law enforcement?

How about “Ninja Scroll”, that’s a great anime.

“Blood, the last vampire” is pretty cool as well, way to short though, even for an anime.

Jah, why did they have to chop out the girl on girl action????

BECAUSE NOW IT WON'T BE IN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

the horror

Battle Royale is always worth seeing....

Happiness Of The Katakuris, for a quite different movie from the director of Audition.

Hana-Bi for a nonhorror but great japanese movie.

And of course, the classics. Ringu, Ringu 2, Dark Water, Kairo... all great japanese movies.

Anything from Takashi Miike, except maybe DEAD OR ALIVE (you might wanna see the ending of the first one though.) I very highly recommend Ichi the killer.

Not very extreme but have you seen VERSUS?

Am I to understand there is more to the masterpiece that is Blood The Last Vampire that has been denied to American audiences????

Anything from Takashi Miike, who did Audition, is great. If you want the over the top blood that the Japanese do which I love Versus is a great zombie flick. Battle Royale, Suicide Circle, also know as Suicide Club, and Evil Dead Trap are all great as well.

A few more good Japanese horror:
Kairo (Pulse)
Ring
Uzamaki (The manga is great as well)
The Eye
Dark Water
Ju-On (Haven't seen it but looks good)

Yea, JU-ON was cool.

Banned movie: have you seen MAN BITES DOG? (warning: avoid the dubbed version, go for subtitles.)

Outstanding movie! Excellent taste as always, alice's girl.

Howzabout Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Wasn't that banned somewhere (or several somewheres?) I was lucky enough to see this at the Angelika in NYC on the same night I say The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and Her Lover. That was a great evening.

Hasn't MANIAC been banned as well? And THE BURNING? I kinda like them, but it might be because theyr'e linked to that feeling of 'magic' we've been discussing in the 'good old times' thread.
Rauri, if you are looking for "banned"-type films, I would recommed the previously mentioned MANIAC ( 1980 ), MS. 45, and the very grim Al Pacino/William Friedken serial killer film CRUISING .... these 3 films were all very controversial in their day ...

As for Japanese horror, KAIRO, DARK WATER, TALE OF TWO SISTERS and SUICIDE CLUB are all fantastic .... and if you want to go back a little, check out KWAIDAN, WOMAN IN THE DUNES and FEMALE CONVICT SCORPION: JAILHOUSE 41 ...

FEMALE CONVICT SCORPION isn't all-out horror, bt it s one of the most fascinating and beautifully shot films I have ever seen ... and the lead is very much like Asami from AUDITION ....

I recommend TETSUO: THE IRON MAN. Some people, including some of my best friends, absolutely despise it, but I think it's really intense and successful at every level.

I think I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE was supposedly banned for a while, at least they advertised it that way.
It's not an easy to watch film, that I can assure you.

EOD

Wasn't Craven's LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT banned for a while also?

Since you're on an italian horror trip, you might want to check out the now-budget-priced City Of The Living Dead disc from Vipco, It's like £5.99 and while Vipco normally make enjoying the viewing experience about as easy as wnaking through the eye of a needle, this disc is pretty good. Plus you get a McColl commentary and interview. And it's finally uncut.

Evil Dead Trap was banned on our shores for a time, it's fun.

The US The Beyond and Zombie Flesh Eaters are fully uncut and worth importing.

Good site to look at further on this issure:

Melon Farmers which is a great UK anti-censorship-campaging site.

and

SexGoreMutants which is a great UK-specific DVD news site.

And if you don't read Darkside, you could do a lot worse than pick it up from your newsagent, always has good DVD coverage.

Thank You All So Much!

Thank you all so much!

I will check out everything I can! Thank you all for the help, I enjoy movies that really do challenge the viewer, so if anyone does know any non-horror films even that do so then please tell!

Thanks for giving me the time of day!!!

Guts of a Beauty!

I think everything was banned in the UK at one point.

I remember hearing tales of video shops being raided for stocking copies of THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS.

Definitely get the R1 of THE BEYOND. That flick rules...

I wish SexGoreMutants still sold DVDs. I got VERSUS from them, and I remember they had DELLAMORE DELLAMORTE, which I still haven't seen.

Not exactly horror but still the most horrible thing I've ever seen:

Lilja 4-Ever

One of the most bleak, dark hopeless visions of life I've ever seen. The fact that it was based on a real event makes it all the more depressing.

I hold Lilja 4-Ever as one of the best movies I've seen... but I never want to see it again.

Jesus, another Metrodome picture...we're a horror fans best friend.

Guts Of A Beauty/Virgin is fun but Evil Dead Trap's the better picture.

The Seeding Of A Ghost is also hella schlock

You can pick up Anthony Wong's blistering performance in the truly twisted The Untold Story (aka Bunman) for about £5 from www.DDDhouse.com as well.

Rauri, if you are looking for something "challenging", my I suggest A QUESTION OF SILENCE ... It's probably only available on video, but this film stirs up emotion like few others ....

And 2 that could fit into the horror genre, I forgot to mention SEE THE SEA and THE ISLE .....
