Tobe & his Toolbox

Thread Starter
What exactly is the status on Hooper's "semi-remake" of "The Toolbox Murders"? Wasn't it supposed to be the project that lifted Hooper from his two decade long slump? It's just that I haven't heard anything recently, and I was wondering if anyone still gave a shit outside of myself.
I recently swore off remakes, but this is Hooper, so I'd be happy to see him make a comeback in any way that he can.

I have no idea about the remake, but I just watched the original for the first time ...

SPOILERS AHEAD

Holy shit, what a first 20 minutes ... and the bathtub scene and subsequent chase was classic .... as was the final shot ...

While the original TOOLBOX MURDERS sorta loses steam midway thru ( it would be virtually impossible to keep the pace of the first reel), it obviously inspired an entire decade of future slashers ....

Like MANIAC, THE PROWLER, GIRLY and DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT, TOOLBOX MURDERS is a grim and borderline depressing bit of horror ... and I love it

Sadly, the little I have heard regarding the remake was lukewarm at best ... the first half is supposed to suck, and Hooper decided to interject some humor into his version ( for which he should be tied to a chair made of human bones in the 120 degree Texas heat ) ....

I'm seeing it next week! I'll let you know what I think

From what I heard I don't think it has much to do with the original.

Humm, I hated the original, they should of spread the murders out a bit more instead of having all the action in the first 20 minutes of the movie! Also what the hell was up with the movies suspects? Two scrawney teenage boys when the killer is obiously a middle aged man!
The remake could be pretty shit but it would still be better then the original.
Actully I commend Tobe for taking a crap film and remaking it instead of remaking something that doesn't need it!

Yep, as linked above, I wrote a review about it.

Last I heard, it was screened at the AFM (American Film Market) to try to stir up distribution. I can only assume it'll find it, it's a hell of a fun picture and a pure valentine to the horror fanboys of the world who have been watching slasher flicks since the era of the original Toolbox Murders.

One can only assume that the Corner will be told as soon as there's something to tell about it's release plans. I also have a bit of an inside source on this, and I'll ask them about it next time I run into them.
