Man with a Camera

I'm a huge fan of Bernard Rose. he hasn't struck out yet, imo. I even liked Paperhouse. I think it's great that he's returning to horror.

Candyman is my all-time favorite horror film. I think Bernard Rose's direction is absolutely incredible, and the Phillip Glass soundtrack remains my favorite orchestra ever. Looking forward to his next one quite a bit!

The whole "take reality TV to the limits" thing has been done to ... um ... death, though. LAST BROADCAST, SERIES 7, MY LITTLE EYE, LAST HORROR PICTURE and a whole bunch of DTV garbage have already expolited that concept. And let's not forget the video game MANHUNT.

I hope Rose can bring something fresh to this subject because otherwise he's wasting his time and obvious talent.

Not wanting to state the obvious but Rose has never been one to shy away from the artier side of filmmaking or film aesthetics (check out Ivansxtc for that). And considering the original 19 Man With A Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov's 1929 pioneering film of the documentary form) was, as I guess a lot of people on this board prolly know, about a guy literally travelling round the city taking in everything he sees with a camera, verite style, I guess it's as appropriate a title for a hyper-documentary-style horror picture as any.

But it is arty, no doubt and he's not really doing himself any favour from an audience-grabbing point of view though. But I suspect that's of little concern to him.

Still, I'll see anything with Rose's his name on.
