100 Movies That Deserve More Love

Great article. Can't wait for the next three installments. I silently cheered when I saw Mouse Hunt and The Iron Giant.

Space Truckers??

You guys incessantly wank over "Deep Rising"... why include that?

But I did like "Young Sherlock Holmes" and "The Cable Guy", which I refer to as "The Ben Stiller Show: The Movie".

List on the main page.

Great stuff on the list so far. The Arrival has my undying love, despite Lindsay Crouse.

This is one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures. They can wank on it all they like.

And a HUGE kudos for including 'Mr. Frost'!

Gunnar Hansen in "Mosquito". The movie is a roller coaster ride of greatness.

MRMR Frost was the shit!!!

Time After Time! A mention for Time After Time... I've seen it all. I have much fondness for that flick.

Good to see Dragonslayer and Young Sherlock Holmes get kudos as well.

I'll hop on board that Mr. Frost loveboat.

Now...The Stuff better get a mention.

Because it's meant to be a list of movies critically underappreciated. And since Treat Williams' best film since THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK wasn't a hit with Ebert and co, it was picked, deservedly in my opinion.

-Sigh- and yet you rag on me for liking Sommers' monster movies...

I was glad to see "Gremlins 2" on there-much better than the first one.

Warmed my cockles to see Mr. Frost on there, a very cool movie I'd have never seen if I hadn't been working my way through hasting's 49¢ horror rentals (which is also the way I got to see Parents , which also deserved much love).

But mostly I was moved to tears to see Society on there. One of the most out-there, yuckiest, and most fun practical effects romps you'll ever see. I'm buying the AB double feature dvd of it and Spontaneous Combustion this weekend. Yeah, I know. But at least the lesser feature has Brad Dourif.

So happy to see The Edge on there, it's definetly in my top 10 films I can watch over and over again. Extra points for the "Either way, this film is so good that U2’s guitarist changed his name to honor it." remark.
I think The Edge is cool too. The inspiring line

"What one man can do..."

"...ANOTHER CAN DO!"

or something like that. That was cool.

"brotherhood of the wolf" ain't definitely a movie that needs more love.

At the risk of playing devil's advocate, I wasn't too impressed with that article. A lot of the movies on that list were films that got plenty of critical praise but just didn't light the box office on fire. Also, there was a tremendous shortage of b-movies from the past few decades that deserve to be included and almost every movie on there was a mainstream movie that got a full theatrical release. I think my biggest problem with that article was that it seemed to be written by someone with little knowledge of movies prior to the 1980's.
Well, it's all based on opinion, really.

I don't think Dan or Nick are short on movie knowledge in most decades. I sorta see where you're coming from, but I really can't think of too many flicks on that list that really got the response they deserved - well, aside from the ones I'm not fond of.

The inclusion that really lost me was listing INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM. Not exactly a movie that bombed at the box office. Hell, TV Guide even gives it **** stars. I'm of the opinion that the movie is a vastly inferior sequel but it's hardly a movie starved for love. Using their logic TITANIC and FORREST GUMP should be on the list too.

I think it depends on the circles. I've seen it torn apart in a lot of cases, especially with all the racist accusations it always gets, and even the man SS himself seems embarassed by it. I remember seeing threads on here that were totally split down the middle, and while it does have its champions, I've seen it be out of favour with a lot of people. On a personal level, I think it's an amazing film and one that deserves all the love it gets, especially compared to a ton of other action movies that made up its ilk in the 80s.

Fuck yeah is all I have to say about "The Ref." -Clark
"I got some news for you lady. Your husband isn't dead, he's hiding."

Bump!

I'm not sure if there's another thread for this. This is all I could find, but I recently caught NIGHTWATCH (the US remake of the Danish flick) with Ewan McG, Brolin (terrific), Nolte, etc thanks to this list. I finally gave it the bump up on my queue after all these years due to the director's more recent film I enjoyed, VIKAREN.

Anyway, here's the list:

76-100
51-75
26-50
1-25

I remember my queue got a lot fatter when I read this series of mini-write-ups.

As with many films, the original NIGHTWATCH is vastly superior.

The list is great, if a mite bit obvious. So glad to see ESCAPE FROM ABSOLOM (aka NO ESCAPE) getting some love.

Contact. Ew.

Same director too. I'll have to give his original a watch. I like Ole Bornedal's visual aesthetic and use of tension. He's also got a strange sense of humor.
