Far Cry

I loved the demo, but Gamespot's review of 9.2 pretty much solidified my purchase of this game.

Comes out tomorrow....

You know, I would have probably picked this game up until I started playing the full version of UT 2004. I honestly think UT 2004 has surprised so many of the consumers with its high quality that its going to really kick the ass of battlefield vietnam and unfortunately Far Cry, which looks to be a decent game using an amazing Engine.

I have this game preordered, a day booked off work, a twelve pack of beer, two fresh packs of smokes and a roll of toilet paper. I am going to sit and play until my feet turn necrotic or i soil myself. I can't fuckin' wait. The demo was digital crack and i am hooked.

This hasn't left the office hi-spec PC for weeks. It's pretty stunning.

You bought toilet paper instead of Depends? You have much to learn...

I live in a small backward country, so i am ashamed to say i do not know what depends are. We only recently got electricity and running water. Next thing you know, we will have giant metal birds which allow man to soar in to the heavens (and cable TV

Depends = adult diapers. Pretty comfortable, too.
Adult Diapers? A sterling idea! I usually use a cork and a bucket under the chair (think se7en without the morbid obesity). My only worry about this game are the settings. I have a 256mb Radeon 9800 pro, a gig of ram but only a 2100 processor. When i tried to max out the video options on the demo it totally spazzed out and ended up looking like a bad acid trip. Anyone else know if my rig will support the game running at max settings?

This truly is one of the best FPSs in years. I'm at the part right after you and Val jump out of the helicopter.

The island at night looks beautiful.....

You lucky sod. I had mine preordered, but they are out of stock! How does the full game run, resources wise? I am going to sacrifice a whole weekend to the god of FPS when i get my hands on this.

Doesn't run bad at all, pretty smooth actually. Chug-free.

Only problem is, my video card (GeForce4 64 MB Ti 4200) sucks, texture-wise. Some blinking textures and what-not but I can run everything at medium without frame rate issues.
I've played two different demos of this (original demo, and PCgamer demo), and still dont see what the big deal is. Aside from the island itself, which is fucking amazing, whats so great about it?

The AI didnt seem terribly smart. I'd just make some noise, hide in a bush, and when the enemy comes over slash them up with my knife.

I suspect multi-player is pretty fun though, with everyone hiding in the foliage and crawling around.

Man, this game is fucking huge. I'm in "Rebellion" now, at LEAST 12-15 hours in, I think, and i'm pretty sure there are like 7 or 8 levels left.

Very tough in spots, but man...what an experience.
Quite difficult (even on "medium"), but gorgeous. I love the fact that there are multiple ways to approach many of the levels (it's possible to miss much of each), although I like the outdoor levels far more.

Horrendous voice acting, though.

Oh, and you can save your game at any time by pulling down the console and typing "\save_game". It makes the going a lot less frustrating.

You can? Holy shit.

And yeah, i'm playing the game on Medium and i've had to reload some areas MANY times.
I just made it through the first demo and... wasn't impressed. Sure, graphics are great, but there's nearly no interaction with the environment (you can't destroy anything), the AI is laughable (didn't manage to sneak at anyone because in close range they turn into your direction and won't look anywere else then), and enemies can hit you from a mile without a scope rifle. That sucks.

Don't tell me that the whole game plays on that single isle.

edit : And it actually ran quite smooth on my machine (athlon 1600, 128 mb ram, geforce 2 ti) - on 1024 *32 medium detail.

You're on MANY different isles and a lot of indoor environments. Very Half-Life-ish in some spots.

And maybe you can't destroy everything, but most all items can be knocked over or manipulated in some fashion.
I have completed the game and fucking loved it. However the AI (which is better than any other game out there) is patchy in places. SOmetimes a guy can be stood on top of you in broad daylight and doesn't spot you. Other times you can be hunkered down in thick vegetation, silent and still and a whole village starts firing at you and even calling in air support.

If you haven't bought this yet you are missing out.

I've said it once, and i'll say it again- this game is HUGE. It's neverending.

I'm right before the Volcano laboratory right now. Man, the current situation i'm in really IS reminiscent of Jurassic Park.

I'm telling you, this game kicks so much ass. If you want something to keep you busy for a good while, please go buy this.

Finally beat this last night. Final boss fight was a joke, but some of the encounters leading up to it had me reloading like 20-30 times each. Craziness.

Not a GREAT ending, but it was a satisfying ride so I don't care.
I'm STILL chipping my way through it after 3 weeks. I just got kicked out of a helicopter into a ravine with nothing but 10 bullets.

The object of that level- jump off the waterfall and RUN LIKE HELL.
Oh and panic like hell. It was the first time in the game i have used the sprint button while muttering "fuck, fuck, fuck" under my breath. Quality.

I just swam through the river -- none of the beasties bothered me.

The part after that with the jeep on the volcano and all those rocket-monsters... man, what a challenge.
