$50 burning a hole in my pocket; need DVD recommendations

I've got some birthday money I'm itching to spend, but I don't have very many ideas. I was looking to see if any Chewers could recommend a film that is good or a DVD with good special features, so I can get ideas. I am seeking to pad out my lacking Horror and Action collections.

My collection isn't very big, so odds are any suggestions made will be new to me.

that 100 list on the main page would be a great place to start.

That and finding a copy of The Rock Criterion edition.

I have The Rock, Criterion. Neener.

I would recommend going to Target and/or the Wal-Mart armed with that Underrated 100 list. Lots of those titles are for cheap so you should be able to grab four or five discs with that cash.

Get the international version of Leon: The Professional. Essential.

The Rundown is also a blast of an action movie if you haven't picked that up yet.

I thought the new COMMITMENTS DVD was top notch.

Also, if you haven't bought it yet, you have to get THE OFFICE 1st Series.

Quality TV: The Shield: The Complete First Season

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846

Only 13 eps, but worth every penny.

If you have a good home theater that supports DTS 5.1, I would recommend getting Behind Enemy Lines. It's a good action flick, and the missle chase/plane crash scene is one of the greatest demo pieces I've seen for a high-end home theater.

I second this choice.

Awesome.

I would suggest The Devil's Backbone: atmospheric, scary, smart and important.

I have the Susperia S.E. with the soundtrack CD.

Quadruple neener times infinity.

Showdown in Little Tokyo. I think you might like that one.

Ahhh, they sell that one at Best Buy.

Anyone have "Spinal Tap"? That'd be the biggest "Neener" in the Universe.
Now I want to go get the criterion Spinal Tap just so I can torment you with the neener.

Oh yeah? Well, I'll go out and get that cancelled Ed Wood DVD, howzabout that for a neener, hmmm???

HARD BOILED Criterion and LIL' SHOP OF HORRORS (the musical)with the downbeat bummer ending.

Get something useful, like a good cooking knife or a bag of weed. New towels are nice as well.

That's just nonsense. Are you trying to make some sense?
Well, you have fifty dollars to spend, and you want to waste it DVD's. I say waste because you don't have a particular DVD in mind, and it seems like you're buying for the sake of buying. Which brings me to the following conclusion: If you're so intent on spending money, you'd be better off spending it on something useful.

There are too many useful items in this world to list in one thread, so I thought of the few purposeful things and named them; a good cooking knife is a useful luxury, and new towels are surprisingly pleasant (I'd buy both before I spendthrifted my hard-earned wages on a DVD, but that's me). A bag of weed to stash can be handy on those rainy days when you're broke.

If you have $50, then you should buy a DVD. Or go to the movies 5 times. It is your duty.

That's what I said! The money is birthday money, which I am REQUIRED to spend on luxuries I don't need.

There are plenty of movies I like that I don't yet own but would like to own. I just need a refresher on what's out there.
