So, last fall, I bought a new car stereo. Four speakers, and 2 two hundred watt amps to run them off of. (MTX RT202) Then, a few months after I had them, they started doing weird stuff. Every so often, one of the speakers (usually the right front or the back left) would randomly do this little popping thing and get suddenly get louder.
I check the amps in the back to make sure all the wires a hooked in securely, and they are. So I mess around with the gain knob and it fixes it. I didn't turn the gain up or down, I just kinda moved it around a bit and the speaker returned to normal volume. So it seems to me like there is a short in my gain knob, but I'm not that good with this kind of stuff, so I'm not sure.
A friend helped me install them (he installs stereos at Circuit City) so I'm pretty sure we did everything correctly. Has anyone else ever encountered such a problem? If so, can it be fixed, or am I going to have to buy new amps?
Any help would be very much appreciated!!
