My snake won't eat!

If any Chewers familiar with corn snakes want to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

He hasn't eaten in about four weeks and I usually feed him once every two. He refuses live and dead rats and mice (Sorry mousey. I loved you so I had to kill you.) and generally acts afraid of the live ones though he could clearly open up a can of whoop-tail on them.

I'm getting worried it may be something more serious like a stomach virus. His living conditions are good and he gets plenty of water so I don't know what the problem is.

Anybody know anything about snakes?

Besides the fact that man is meant to whack them with sticks until they stop moving? No.

You might want to ask Sir Mix-A-Lot for advice, though. I hear he's got the same problem with his anaconda.

OH! That's it! I just need to find a mouse with buns!

I'm trying to exhuast all possible options before finally resorting to consulting a vet. Snake vets are VERY expensive.

If he's not eating in two more weeks I'll go see a vet.

I used to have a roommate with a couple snakes, there really isn't much you can do if they stop eating. If you don't want to call a vet just go to a local pet store, they will usually have a person on staff with decent reptile knowledge.

I had a Chinese Water Dragon for a while. Usually upping the heat would do the trick. Try some diet variety though.

There's a huge community of corn snake people though. Pick up a copy of Reptails magazine at any of the big chain pet stores and they'll have some addresses.

He's about ten. I already emailed some people at some snake sites but I was just checking to see if any Chewers had dealt with this before.

I was just wondering if at a certain age snakess...or whatever. Otherwise, I don't know shit about snakes but for I am scared of them. Good luck.

Change the diet, Werbal. I have the same problem with my turtle all the time, and ever time I change the diet he eats again. If that doesn't work, take it to a vet. I had a turtle for 14 years, and it stopped eating. Naturally I figured I just needed to change the diet, but it didn't work. I later found out he ate something that was blocking his gastric track, and he died. Use your better judgement, friend.

E-mailed a snake guy and he gave me a reason for it.

It's mating season.

He said his 9 year old male corn was refusing to eat too, and that I should try in another week or two when he's not so horny.
