I Finally Bought An Xbox

Yes, in my infinite wisdom - or stupidity - I walked into Game to see what used PS2 titles they had, and walked out with Microsoft's finest, mostly as a present to myself to get over my ex. After getting over the fact that it doesn't have an Optical Out, I'm enjoyed it greatly thus far. So this is the usual call for people to recommend stuff.

Also, those who connect it up to amps/home theaters, do you just use a normal AV lead?

So far, I have:

RAINBOW SIX
DEUS EX: INVISIBLE WAR
MIDTOWN MADNESS 3
TIMESPLITTERS 2
THAT CRASH BANDICOOT ONE
HALO

KNIGHTS is a given, but any others, recommend away!

You can buy the optical cable seperately, btw. 5.1 Surround Sound is great and used extensively in pretty much every Xbox game.

Crimson Skies is a must-own.

Prince of Persia is also great.

Get Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. It's a very good game in single-player mode. However, if you have any intent to get XBox Live... SC:PT is a Godly multiplayer game. This is a must own.

Also, for more XBox Live enjoyment, pick up both Crimson Skies and MechAssault. Both have decent single-player modes attached, and they also have stellar multiplayer through XBL.

And if you wanna get your ass kicked by the best action title released in at least five years (IMHO) pick up Ninja Gaiden. A brutally difficult, exceptionally fair, beautiful, bloody third-person ninja game that's as addictive as crack. AND it includes all three of the old-school Gaiden titles. AND it has an XBL mode coming soon (the service isn't up yet).

Just don't come crying to me saying I didn't warn you... this game is HARD.

I'm not going for Live right now, as I don't have a broadband connection. But it's definitely a thought for the future.

Thanks Jacob, I looked on Amazon and found a decent third party one. That'll do me fine, although it's kinda lame you have to buy the remote to play DVDs.

Definitly get Ninja Gaiden, it's hard as a fuck but it's also very fun. If you like RPGs and since you're getting KOTOR which is also a must I would definitly recomend Morrowind.

If in the near future if you do happen to get X-Box Live as well get Return to Castle Wolfenstien, it's damn cheap now and it's very fun. My favorite Live game so far until I pick up Pandora Tomorrow.

I don't know about Morrowind. I remember playing it and being bored, then switching over to KOTOR. Maybe it's just me.

Morrowind is an acquired taste, but if you get into it, it's literally one of the greatest games ever. Just an incredibly engrossing experience. However, if you have a decent PC rig, get it for that instead of the XBox. The higher res and draw distance is huge, as is the access to a ridiculously large online mod community with a ton of really cool shit to play with.

Anyway, these guys have pretty much covered all of the killer apps for XBox right now. Crimson Skies, Gaiden, KOTOR, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell...all essential. You picked up the system at a good time, with Halo 2, Fable and Jade Empire on the horizon.

the collection wouldn't be complete without Burnout 2. Unless you got it for the ps2 already.

If you want a really fun game that you can also buy on the cheap, I heavily reccomend "Armed and Dangerous". A very fun game, albeit somewhat short, but that's okay because some of the levels have a whole lot of replay value, especially any of the levels involving the jump pack. It made me think of Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie, although I love the movie). Good times.

So, who wants to start the pool for bets on how long it will take KOTOR to make Charles pull another 180 when it comes to SW?

Ninja Gaiden has bloodily splattered any other titles out of my head at the moment. Get that.

Definitely by the Leviathan, but there are plenty of earlier moments that can do the trick.

My bet is when he goes to Dantooine, and speaks to the widow that's looking for her lost droid.

Charles,

Whenever you happen to buy your next game, make this your next purchase, without question.

Since you were asking about home theaters, I'm assuming you have a TV with component inputs. This MS High Definition A/V pack (first party) will let you connect your Xbox via component cables, AND it includes an optical out for 5.1 sound.

Try to avoid using the thin cables that come included with it, though. Just about any $30-$40 component cables will be worth getting if you have a HDTV.

I don't get it. Are you saying I'll like the Prequels again after playing KOTOR?
No. But you'll understand better why you don't like the prequels. You'll experience the sweet irony of a Star Wars storyline created by a third-person developer outclassing any Star Wars product from LucasArts, LucasFilm, LucasANYTHING in the past twenty years.

Make sure to ENABLE Surrond on your X-Box, in the system settings. Else all the wires and hookups in the world wont help...

I am about to get my second Box next week (price drop) my first one I sold and when I was wiping the HD I noticed you had to enable Surrond on the system...This is after I bought multiple A/V packs and wires and shit I obviuosly never needed.

Don't let the load times and slow down turn you off, it's all worth it after you get into it for a while.
