Houston Chewers

Didn't know if there was a thread for this, but I was curious as to how many lived in the Houston area.
<===Houstonian. Well, for 6 more months, then off to sunny Florida.
I'm seven hours away, I live in the Valley, in McAllen.
Or as it's commonly referred to here as "The Place that
You Leave as Soon As You're Able To."
I live in Baton Rouge...which is only about 4 hours to the east. Louisiana really doesn't fall in to "east coast" or "mid west" so I never see any CHUD folks gathering around here.
Well, Nordling, I am in Austin. Anytime you come up here, drop me an e-mail. I have yet to meet another Chewer. Hope to get to ATL sometime this year and hit a coffee shop meeting. But, anytime you come up here for AICN or Harry or whatever let me know. I can give you place to crash if you don't mind the baby.

Scudd, Smirk is down in New Orleans. He goes to law school there. I am fromt here orginally, and Carl I believe is in Lafayette and does a weekly dinner thing. Check his DVD Column for the time and place. Lfayette aint too far to drive from BR.

Plus, I will probably be in New Orleans the first week of June to house sit for family, so I may try to set something up then.
I'm from Beaumont, but I lived in Spring until I was 12.

I'm a H-town homeboy!!
Coyote and I are Houstonians.
I have been all my life, but he's just an import from Dallas.

I'm gonna get in trouble for that.

From Dallas, and he moved to Houston? Most anyone I have meet from Dallas, wouldn't be caught dead in Houston.
Usually. And vice verse as well. But I actually know at least two people living currently in Houston who were originally from Dallas.

Weird, huh?
"From Dallas, and he moved to Houston? Most anyone I have meet from Dallas, wouldn't be caught dead in Houston."

Actually, I moved to San Antonio for a year, and got a job in Houston to get me out of San Antonio.

What's worse, Hastur moved here from Austin.

There's a hell of alot of sewer types us down here in Houston, definately enough to host some CHUD screenings....yes, Nick, that was hint #24280632.....

Is anyone going to Project A-Kon besides myself, Hedgie, Hastur, Momotoro, and D'Kay?
I used to live in Dallas...I doubt the Trinity noticed the aditional sewage.

A-kon is the original US animation/anime convention, held in Dallas every year the weekend after Memorial Day.
Although we have so many band guests this year, it's been nicknamed Akonapaloza...we started having a band at opening ceremonies from Japan about 2-3 years ago, and I guess word got around in Japan that we were a good venue...they're coming out of the woodwork.
Sounds like a great place to meet a few Chewers, if I was into Anime. I think I might try and attend Dragon Con this year. Any Houston Chewers making that journey?
Unfortunately, not I
Acting job info? Unfortunately not.

Third Planet is hiring part time workers, though. Pay probably sucks, but it's a comic store. Bedrock on Westheimer needs to replace a girl working there, but that's just my personal opinion.....

Are there no Valley chewers here?

*sniffle*

Am I the only one here from the Valley? Anyone?
No McAllen, Alamo, Weslaco, Pharr, or San Juan members?

I really need to move from this fuckin' hellhole.
I'm in Fort Worth.

I would be willing to drive to Houston to get together with other Chewers. I met a few at the Hellboy screening, but I got there late. Too late to actually get to know anyone.

Are there Chewers meeting at Akon?

Are there Chewers meeting at Akon?

(Can't get the "quote" feature to work. Argh!)

There's expected to be at least one get-together. Last year we (well, Coyote, probably with the help of a couple of Dallas regulars) organized two, both at restaurants away from the convention so the locals didn't have to pay an A-Kon entry fee just in order to just meet up with the non-locals.

I'm hoping for one to be scheduled on Saturday, since due to work I'll be on my way to the con Friday evening and on my way home on Sunday afternoon.
OH!
Since there was mention of DragonCon up a few posts, I thought I'd mention that I just got word through the author's mailing list that Warren Ellis (comic book writer extrordinaire and All Around Bastard) will be attending this year. I weep, because DragonCon is one of the cons I go to often, and I cannot go this year, due to financial situation.
As we get closer, I'll start planning something for Akon (hopefully Sat night at Celebration off of Lover's...fantastic food, not too expensive) Those of us who are at the con would be indebited if those not going to the con could pick us up (We're at the Adam's Mark downtown this year, parking is both expensive and hard to come by, would rather not leave our spots if we can get away with it.)
Hedgie, you're cajun.....
*ducks*
How about a Chewer drink night or day at the ballpark?
I'd be game for a Chewer outing. If ballgame, then I would prefer a night game. Business man specials never seems to work out for me. Could always do margarita's at Cafe Adode.

Cafe Adode that might be just the ticket. It would allow the younger ( non-leagal) guys to go where they will be able to get in,

I propose a meeting late June mid July.

How many of you would be down with that?
I'm down.
Sounds good. I work weekends, though, just a heads up...hrm....in July I'll have 2 Sundays off....
Coyote, I also work weekends however I have the luxury to change it to have some time off.

I propose a Sunday in July then.
Count me in. Weekends are not a problem for me. Let us know which Sunday would be best for you Coyote.
I'm currently stuck in College Station. Weeee.
Which isn't so far from Houston. Can't come into town for a few hours?
I could, no doubt. Just let me know ahead of time so I can make sure I know where I'm going--I've driven in Houston all of about twice.
I've emailed a couple of you, but if any of you Houstonians are able to attend a morning screening of THE TERMINAL next week, please contact me at mmoore@a-g-a.com.

I know that g-dude does some online writing and that Nordling occasionally writes for AICN so I should also note that it is imperative that no one any reviews online based on seeing the film at this screening. It's "I could lose my job" imperative.

Also, I would love to meet some chewers, but can rarely make it into town on the weekends. Perhaps I can meet you guys slowly at screenings...just send me your info.
Well, scratch that. The screening was just put on hold.

You can still shoot me an email if you want to receive passes to Houston, San Antonio or Austin screenings. I think Coyote and Gigolo Joe are on our list and receive passes regularly.

I believe g-dude gets the shaft on most of our mailings because we pull by zipcodes close to the theatre and his College Station zip almost never pops up.
Well I make the proposal that we could make our meeting on

Sunday, July 18 2004. around 1 pm or so.

At the Cafe Adobe in the Marquee Center.Marq*E Entertainment Center

I hope everybody is cool with the location and date and time.

Well the die is cast.
Hastur can't do that...we can't do days Fri-Mon, as that's when we work. Weeknights are fine, weekend nights are fine, about 7pm, but will be quick as we have to get up at an ungodly hour.

*I* can do it, because I have that day off after taking a class from hell earlier in the week, though.
Well, I'd like to do something when the most Houston Area Chewers can come....weeknight would be fine for me. Just couldn't stay out until the wee hours of the mornings.
Week nights are always fine for me weekend nights aren't to hot for me. I just hope some of our younger brethren would be able to join us.
Hastur hasn't come on here and expressed a huge desire to do, mind...the Sunday listed above is still a viable option.
And where Coyote goes, Hedgie is sure to follow.
She's sure to make googly eyes at him though...
OK, so we have the place: Cafe Adobe in the Marquee Center

Date: Sunday July 18, 2004

Time: 1 PM.

As we will be at the Marquee Center, we could possibly contemplate catching a flick as well.

People confimed (as of right now): chefwindu, Coyote, Communism was justa DarkHedgehog, and myself (Gigolo Joe).

Eli Ca$h, g-dude, ChewBacchus, Nordling, anyone else interested?
I'm down with that.

If my wife didn't have to work I'd be down for that, but she does, sorry guys.
If we choose to catch a flick, it might be tough to get everyone to agree. The only major opening that weekend seems to be I, Robot. Which I, personally, want to see before making a judgement call, but which others seem to think signals the coming of the antichrist.
I figure on the movie thing, we will just play it by ear. Me personally, I'm up for I, Robot.
Well I am glad to hear we can some of the local guys together.
Ba-bump! Drinks this Sunday with a viewing of I, Robot to follow for those interested. Everyone still game?
Hedgie & I are still going, and seeing I, Robot as well....

However, do we all want to go see I, Robot first, and meet for food afterwards?

Assuming this won't kill anybody's ability to go? I'm just thinking it's more in Chewer keeping to discuss the flick
post #49 of 120
Sounds fine to me. Yahoo says that there is a 1 PM showing of I, Robot at the Marquee. Could finish that movie, and if needed drink ourselves into a stupor to remove the taint.
I am down with movie first and food second. I guess a few Pm's to determin exactly what all of us look like so none of us roll up on the wrong group of people.
