Warning to Chewers

Take this for what you will, but I've noticed this morning that I've received more than one anonymous email with an attachment, one of which I know for a fact was a virus. It would not surprise me a bit that after SP's spectacular failure yesterday that they might try to infect a few Chewer's computers the old fashioned way.


It might just be a coincidence, it might not. Just a heads up.

I've been getting viruses in e-mail for a pretty regular basis for about a year now.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Well, I NEVER get viruses, so that's why it got my attention. Like I said, take it for what you will.

I don't think it has anything to do with SP. Do watch out for it though. I started getting them just a couple of days ago in my yahoo account that only my friends and family know about. The emails I got were 41k or 30k and had stupid titles like "fake" or "mail returned."

edit~ I just realised that I do have that yahoo account as my email address here but it's hidden. What're the chances of anybody other than a CHUD admin being able to get to it?

Well, I just got an email from one of the SP guys that said only "BOO!", so the viruses probably weren't from them. I'm sure they got a big kick out of my tiny bit of paranoia.

But they're still reading CHUD, and still obsessed with us, so we got that goin' for us... At least they give the site a lot of traffic, so it'll help with potential advertising revenue for Nick...

A few months ago I dealt a virus that mails itself to every address on your contact list, so it may have started again but is targeting users on both sites. This current one's just weird, I get emails from my university's admission's office in London, though I attend the german campus. Hopefully, we'll be able to spot it and get back to our usual business.

I got a funky email this evening...didn't open it, then again, I doubt it would've done much to my computer, as most viruses are written for Windows.

What happened yesterday? Did I miss something again?

Translation: I think it will look cool if I take sides and attribute a common every-day occurrence (receiving a virus) to those (I admit) morons from SP.

Hey, I guess you didn't read my follow-up posts. Not to mention this is over a week old...

And why is it so silly to imagine that the SP assholes would send viruses out to chewers the day after they tried to spam the shit out of the boards? They wouldn't stoop so low? Please...

It's silly because the probability is that you have received the virus from someone who hasn't the faintest idea about CHUD.

By drawing everyone’s attention to the idiots mentioned above, you are effectively doing their work for them.

It was just a heads-up in the Chewer's forum. If it was going to be the start of another "thing" with those idiots I thought it'd be a good idea to mention it. It's not like I ran through the streets shouting "The sky is falling! Run for your lives!". And I admitted soon thereafter that I was probably wrong.

Christ, next time I'll be sure to keep my fucking mouth shut.
