Jon Stewart.. and the Daily show - Page 3

lol...yes I agree it was still as hilarious as ever. The monkey thing was great.
I know it's lame, but I really want him to do a "DAMN YOOOU, CLLINTONNN" during the interview next week. I think it's hilarious when he does that.

Also Portman was damn hot, earrings or no.

Did anyone see tonight when taking about John the Baptist he said the guy foot in the rock was the same as tea-bagging the Holy Grail, I almost died laughing

Rod Corrdry's report last night was gold.

"Jon, you're asking me to act as some kind of filter between the people talking to me and the people I'm talking to."

And the six degrees of Bacon thing was great. "Wow. I did it in one."

Can't wait to see the Kerry interview.

I love that he takes every opportunity to shit on those swiftboat fucks.

On football player Robert Smith's book: "It's a great book to hold in your hand."

Fuckin' classic. Even when he gets his ass handed to him, he doesn't hide. Gotta love him.

I thought the Kerry interview tonight was pretty good. I thought Kerry's leadoff point was the best and the most important in that Bush has turned the attention to the swiftboat-crap because he can't afford to talk about the issues.

The little girl speaking for the oil company was great. Shocker that the oil companies are gauging us on scare tactics.

Did you watch the end credits after the "Moment of Zen"? Colbert was asking her questions and she said "Daddy", so he pulled her aside and told her, "Remember, you not supposed to call me 'Daddy' on national television."

The Kerry interview was good and he made some very interesting points about what it means to go to war, Bush's failed foreign policy, etc.

Last night's episode was another winner.

Samantha Bee's segment about the man with the plumbing problems who was pooping at City Hall every morning was hilarious and probably one of the funniest sketches I have seen.

"I'm pooping for what I believe in."

"Conscientious excretion"

Plus, Stewart's interview with Ed Gillespie of the RNC was also quite enjoyable; especially the bit where he told Gillespie to tell Dubya that if he came on the show, he would be a "pussycat."
Kerry's interview was more like another campaign speech rather than a conversation with Stewart. It really bothered me that he came and said prewritten material and was obviously set up by John to do it too.

I don't disagree with what he said, I just expected him to go on there and have alittle more fun. Fuck politics.
God I love Jon Stewart. His show is really something special. When he said that people say he runs a liberal show but he's only picking on them because they own most of the government I was amazed. That guy has class.
"EYE wasss in the movieeeee 'Twins'. We should calllll the Bush sisters twins. Wait. They already areee?"
Damn fine episode, his take on Arnie's "econcomic girlie-men" line was fucking great.
Looks like Colbert's narration on the George W. Bush biography got away with a "shit".

Otis is right. Jon's deliver of "faggot" in Arnold's accent had me rolling.
The inspirational video about the triumph of Dubya's words over facts was hilarious. And sad...
Colbert is really kicking Bush's ass this week. His speech on the first day had me reeling in disbelief that the police didn't break through the ceiling and handcuff him right there. He showed no mercy, and it was awesome.
The Daily show is like a warm blanket and a hot cup of cocoa on a cold winter night. Seriously, the rage and bile and anger that I get from watching Dubya tear this country apart is at least quelled for a half-hour four nights a week. Bless 'em.

Colbert challening Jon to a duel with the glove slap was friggin hilarious. Best Daily Show in awhile.
That zell speech was amazing and so outlandish I can't believe that it was actually REAL. Granted I get my party national convention news from the daily show only, one would think a speech like that would have to be fake, which makes it even more amazing that it wasn't.

The Daily Show didn't have to do much with that speech. Just let the clip roll and count the laughs.

One thing that was just hilarious though was Ed Helms interviewing the black republican asking him about his feelings on Dick Cheney's "pro segregation" vote in wherever. The guy actually started going into an apologetic understanding tone only to have Ed Helms say "Im just kidding!" That was genius and at the same time a reason why the party system disgusts me.

Samantha Bee: "Have you had a Hot Karl yet?"
Delegate: "No, not yet, but I'd like to."
Samantha Bee: "Oh, just get in a taxi, and say 'Take me to where I can get a Hot Karl.'"
Delegate: "I'll be sure to do that!"

Fucking great episode last night!

From the Cooter newspiece to the fantastic interview with Alec Baldwin, it was so enjoyable I watched it twice.
I loved the Crazy Rumsfield stuff. That was great to see. The part where Alec Baldwin said he justs throws darts at a board to pick projects and then made fun of Cat In The Hat was hilarious.
Anyone catch this last night? Excellent show. Richard Clarke was there - very well-spoken individual.
And Colbert at the beginning was priceless.

"Damn you, music!!"
Colbert's piece was GOLD. He really is a genius with the not so subtle jabs at ppl in the current administration.

Richard Clarke was fantastic as always.
That Colbert segment was excellent.

Theory: Colbert is the Wesley to Jon Stewart's Angel.

Ohmigod, tonight's ep is brilliant so far. He went after O'Reilly and his audience of Crystal Meth users, then Ed Helms revealed secrets of successful journalism--write the story first! But watch out if someone sighs or sweats, because that could cost someone the election, BEE-YATCH!

Or as he likes to call them "jittery tweakers". Hilarious. His bit about O'Reilly being impressed with Bush for coming on a show where the questions weren't restricted was great too. Jon: "It's the least you can do and call it an interview". Or something to that effect. Great ep! Can't wait for tomorrow.

Fuckiddy fuck-fuck I wish we got this show down under.

One of my best mates in the world is in NY at the moment and one of the first things he said to me when asked about US TV was "The Daily Show with John Stewart is one of the funniest shows Ive ever seen and you would absolutely adore every fucking second of it".

That sucks. Fortunately, video clips from the show are routinely put up on the website, and if you get CNN International, they run a half-hour digest edition of the less provincial bits every weekend:

Did you see Jon on Crossfire with Tucker Carlson? Here's a link to a video, and here's an excerpt from the AP:

Quote:
CNN's Tucker Carlson, Jon Stewart Feuding

DAVID BAUDER

Associated Press

NEW YORK - How's this for a feud that straddles the line between politics and entertainment: CNN's bow-tied conservative Tucker Carlson vs. "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart.

Carlson on Monday fanned embers still hot from their "Crossfire" confrontation, saying Stewart looked ridiculous during his CNN appearance and was a sellout for publicly backing Democrat John Kerry for president.

Stewart, appearing on the debate show Friday, angered Carlson by saying "Crossfire" is "partisan hackery" that does little to advance the cause of democracy.

And that was the mild stuff.

"You have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably," Stewart said.

Responded Carlson: "You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think."

"You need to go to one," Stewart shot back.

Carlson complained that for a comedian, Stewart wasn't being very funny.

"Come on," he said. "Be funny."

"No," Stewart said. "I'm not going to be your monkey."

Carlson chided Stewart for lobbing softball questions when Kerry appeared on "The Daily Show" last month.

Later, Carlson told Stewart he was "more fun" on his Comedy Central show, and Stewart called him a jerk - although he used a more vulgar term. [note: he called him a dick]

"I thought that he looked ridiculous," Carlson said in an interview Monday, "and I think the tape makes that clear."

Carlson said Stewart continued lecturing the "Crossfire" crew after the show went off the air. "I wasn't offended as much as I was unimpressed," he said.

Stewart wasn't talking about the confrontation on Monday, a spokesman said. Comedy Central executive Tony Fox said there may be some regret over the vulgarity, but that Stewart has been a longtime critic of cable news networks and their political argument shows.

The comedian hasn't gone out of his way to endorse Kerry. In a public forum last week in New York, he was asked who he would vote for, and he said he'd back the Democrat.

Carlson noted that many of the great comedians kept their political opinions to themselves, not for fear of offending anyone, but because it could hurt their art.

"You're selling out," he said. "If you are a satirist or an acute social observer, and he is, and all of a sudden you suspend disbelief on someone or suck up rather than prod or poke someone, people will look at you and say, `Even if I agree with you, I don't like it,'" he said.

Fox said "The Daily Show" poked fun at people in power, regardless of their party. Most people who watch Stewart are aware that he leans to the left politically.

"I don't think it really impacts the show at all," he said. "The show does what it does regardless of Jon's political persuasion."
Carlson was badgering Stewart about how they have the opportunity to ask "hard-hitting" questions of candidates they have on, and they don't. Stewart responded by saying (essentially), if you, CNN, are complaining about how a show on Comedy Central that follows a show featuring puppets doing crank phone calls isn't hard enough on the politicians that are on, then we're all in trouble.

The line between parody and reality is beginning to blur, people.

I'll definitely have to check that video out when I get home from work.

Thanks for the link, Tom.

That's because you chose the 500k option, which is for RealOne Superpass. Choose the 200k version and it should not prompt you to sign up for anything and should run just fine.

That video was the shit!

Stewart made Carlson look like a complete asshole.
I love stewart and the daily show to death, but I gotta say one thing. Stewart really did blow a chance with Kerry when he was on the show. Now i agree with jon, that his job is to entertain and not really be the voice of the masses and ask the hard hitting questions, but i have to begrudingly agree with the crossfire people that Jon should have asked some better questions.

I have always felt that jon backs off when conservatives/republicans come on the show because he doesn't want to piss them off. As this election has progressed though, he has become more comfortable in actually just calling out these assholes on the shit they do and say.

I came away from his kerry interview very disappointed because it was very soft and lovey dovey.

With that said, I am so glad Jon just went on that show and tore those guys up. They really should have been berated like this a long time ago. I really think Jon needs to reevaluate his take on his own role in the world of politics now though. I think stewart can be a very powerful man in politics through his daily show pulpit. Young people really love what he talks about, and he and the staff at the show aren't afraid of anything. The daily show exists in this unique limbo state where its not big enough to be bought out or controlled by partisan politics, yet its big enough to where it can reach a lot of people.

Yeah, Jon's always made the assertion on the show that they're not there for news, they're there for satire. As much as I like The Daily Show, going to it for your real news is like reading MAD Magazine in order to catch a movie. What I love about TDS is their willingness to show how ridiculous politicians and politics are, that they try so hard to be everything to everybody, that they come off as little more than mannequins spouting pre-recorded rhetoric.

But I understand where Jon's coming from. I can understand his frustration with broadcast news, where, as soon as a debate gets done, the network seizes on one theme, and beats it into the ground. prime example being the criticism about Kerrey's comment in the last debate about Cheney's daughter being a lesbian. It's getting a tad ridiculous and frustrating.

Anyways, enough of my soapboxing. Tonight's ep was hilarious, espcially the Bush "We're NOT sending an All-Volunteer Army" line. I loved the fact that he caught himself when he noticed no one was cheering when he said it. Jon's reaction, as always...priceless.
After watching the Crossfire footage yesterday, I watched Monday's episode of The Daily Show last night and Jon's opening statement about his appearance and chatasing of Tucker Carlson was also hilarious. He said there was a rumor that Robert Novak was out of commission due to a bad hip. He said I think it (the hip) tried to escape.
I had no idea Madeline Albright was such an interesting person, given her aged prunelike exterior....I wished her sit down with Stewart went on a little bit longer....which begs the question:

should the daily show be an hour long?

sometimes yes, sometimes no. A good guest can go a long way - case in point Marissa Tomei(?) was such a waste of guest space I tuned out early when she appeared.

It's Minority Panderin' Time!!!
I was thinking, if Kerry wins the election, I hope TDS does an hour-long "Best of Bush" special featuring all of his most ridiculous statements.
How long is the Election night special going to be. I would kind of hope it would run all election night but I guess that would be to much to ask.

I think I'm going to save the wednesday november 3rd show forever. took some edge off the whole affair.
