T2: Judgement Day

While the original will always be beloved by most fans I still think T2 gets unfairly knocked for it's lack of emotion and attacked for being just a spectacle. I think this film is a fantastic sequel to the original and has more than enough emotion.
First off, the action sequences are still awesome, that truck crashing over the bridge is still fucking amazing every time I see it as well as the escape from pescadero.

Linda Hamilton really knocked out it out of the park with her performance in this film. When she's standing over Dyson ready to put a bullet through his brain, she stops and just breaks down right there in the room like an emotional wreck, I love that scene.

The film's not flawless though, it suffers from a lack of pacing. T1 was tightly paced and had a claustrophobic feel. In T2 just feels slow at times, particularly during the scenes in the desert and Eddie Furlong is just a whiny fuck, he's one of the main problems with this film.

Another two reasons this film kicks ass, robert patrick, it's a shame he ended up in direct to video hell for awhile but he made it back at least. I love it when Sarah runs out of shotgun shells and he waves his little finger "uh-uh"

This film is a classic, even with eddie furlong, the action is colossal and the T-1000 owns the T-X.

I thought that was so awesome that they re-used the smart guns and the pulse rifles from Aliens in the future war scene. You kinda have to slow the movie down to see it though.

Lack of emotion? Have any of these people seen "Terminator 3"?

i wouldn't exactly call getting naked with Teri Hatcher hell, more of a strategic career move...

Everyone knows this...

I like it a lot, but it just doesn't have the raw power and energy that THE TERMINATOR had for me. Something got lost in the budget hike that lessened the impact of it all. It's still a classy film though, just not classic for me.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this film. I could probab;y recite the whole movie by heart. I do feel, however, that the story is just a rehash of the first film. There's nothing new. But as you stated the action is unbelievable. I'll never forget the first time I saw the T-1000 morph. I just couldn't figure out how they could possibly kill this thing. It kept me guessing which is always a plus.

Eddie's acting, though...it kills me eveytime. It never gets any easier to handle.

My favorite assine exchange:

John: You just can't go around killing people.
T-800: Why?
John: You just can't, okay?
T-800: Why?
John: Because you just can't.

One of the greatest movies of all time, regardless of genre.

better than the first.

A great movie, but I prefer the first one.

A magnificent film. This was the movie that really opened my eyes to great movies. It's as strong and solid now as it was back in 91, and it's (along with the first film) in a different time zone compared to what the franchise now has become. Someone already credited Sarah's scenes, so I'll call out Joe Mortons awesome work as Dyson. That final scene of his still haunts me.

When I said people attacked this film for lack of emotion I was referring to a thread I posted on T1 and the arguments against T2 were mainly that it had no emotional core just three people running around.

What the franchise has become? They've released ONE other Terminator film. And it wasn't too damn shabby.

T2 is one of the very rare sequels that actually adds to the greatness of it's predecessor. The Terminator is a better film because of the reflection that it's given by Terminator 2. Not that it needed any help being good to begin with, but I just think it's so much cooler in light of T2.

Moment that still gets me choked up:

"I know now why you cry."

The scene where Sarah confronts Dyson is far more powerful to me, I guess it's just the rage the frustration before she pulls herself together that got to me.

Terminator: "I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle."

Biker: "You forgot to say please."
*burns cigar on Terminator's bosom*

Crowd: "OOOOOO!"

"Hey Janelle? How's Wolfie? I can hear him barking."
"Your foster parents are dead."

Edward Furlong can't act for shit.

I love hearing his prepubescent squealing as the T-1000 rams the back of his dirtbike.

"NO! NO! IT'LL BE ALRIGHT! NO! YOU CAN STAY!! IT'LL BE ALRIGHT!! NOOO!"
"I know why you cry."

And lets not forget the acting chops of his friend, Bobby Budnick, aka Montana Max.

"Hey dude check it out, there's a cop scopin' for ya."
*John peers out of AFTER BURNER*

I'm happy that red-headed bitch got shoved aside.

"Hey, I think I saw that kid you werUHHH!!"

Sucks for Robert Patrick his career tanked after his elven-earned stint as the T-1000.

"HEY! HEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! GIT THIS GUY OFFA ME! HELP! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP !!!!"

Squealing?! My favorite example is...

No fate but the one we make. Dyson! That's it. She's gonna blow him AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Each second he holds onto the "away" part his voice jumps up a full octave.

Its the right word. You mentioned John squealing on the dirt bike. I was trying to emphasize that the blowing away line is the epitome of Edward's squealing technique. I didn't know boys' voice could get that high.
Hey man, that wasn't squealing, that was emotional resonance.

Does anyone else watch the Special edition? I was watching it with a friend of my the other day and he had never seen it, which surprised me as I can't remember not ever watching that edition. It was fun to see his reaction to it. He specifically noted that it made other scenes makes sense. For example the scene where the T-800 is with John in the bunker getting guns from the Mexicans and he smiles when he sees the rocket launcher. It makes more sense if you have seen the earlier edited out secene when they change the T-800's chip so that he can feel emotions and gives a little smile.

I like that scene overall, especially when Sarah goes to smash the CPU and John stops her. It just showed how scared and vulnerable Sarah was and how John was the more mature one.

"Not he John, It"

"Well, we need IT"

Just another example of Mr.Furlong's stellar acting chops.

One scene that always got on my nerves was where JC wanted to go rescue his mom, the terminator wouldn't comply so he screams for help when it grabs him. Two men come to help and he tells them to take a hike, and then gets the T-800 to teach them a lesson when they don't take too kindly to some punk kid. I wish they had beat the shit out of him.

"Get a grip, John"

Yeah, it doesn't make a ton of sense. Those guys go to help, so he has the Terminator beat the crap out of them, then when he goes to kill them suddenly he's stepped over the line? Since when is there that big a difference between beating someone senseless and killing them? Both are completely wrong, especially when those people are trying to help you.
Well, you can recover from getting beat up. When you are dead, there's no coming back.

My problem with the scene is that from that point forward, teh Terminatot doesn't kill anyone. I mean that's teh whole point of a Terminator! On top of that, he shoots people in the knee caps. I'd almost rather be dead then have that happen. Knee surgery is one of the most painful operations out there and take an incredibly long time to recover from. As an athlete who's seen more than a few friends undergo knee surgery, every time the T-800 capped a knee I cringed.

It was nice to see Jennette Goldstein and Xander Berkeley in cameo roles.

"HEY shut up you worthless piece of shit, I don't understand why you don't get rid of that fuckin' mutt"

*THUNK*

That vision of Judgement Day is pure horror.

The T2:3D documentary makes the T2 Ultimate Edition dvd worth it all.
"HAHAHAHAHA!!! We back agayne wit' de TYOOMINADUH!"
*cut to clip of John yelling "Yes!"*
"TEE TOO..."
*Arnold looks at camera*
"ZREE DEE!"
