Taking Lives

So I went to see Taking Lives today even though Hell Boy is playing on the new local Ultra Screen.(This mofo is 75' wide and is the biggest screen I've ever seen outside of IMAX) Not my idea but I will be hitting HB tomorrow.

You'd think a flick about a serial killer starring Angelina Jolie (major hot chick), Ethan Hawk and Keifer Sutherland would be pretty damn good. I was expecting something along the lines of Seven. It wasn't good at all in fact I'd say it was the biggest POS movie I've seen since Darkness Falls. Totally and utterly predictable. Not just that but it was nearly incoherent. The music was annoying as hell and to me made the movie a farce.

The acting was uninspired, except for Keifer who rocked for the 3 min. he was in it, the script was uninspired and boring along with it's other aformentioned problems. There was not a redeeming bit in all of it except for the Jolie nude part which were too brief and not quite revealing as I wanted it to be.

Bottom line unless you're being coerced into going like I was stay the hell away from this one.

TAKING LIVES has Ethan Hawke and Oliver "UNFAITHFUL" Martinez opposie Angelina Jolie. Ethan Hawke ends up being the one that beds her. I wasn't aware this movie was supposed to be a science fiction flick? Even most gay men would take Oliver Martinez over Ethan Hawke. I swear Hawke is just so miscast in the role and the two of them have zero chemistry. When their big steamy love scene was going on I was more interested trying to tell if you could see Jolie's tattoos peeking out from under all the body make-up they have to use on the woman.

Worst of all, this is one of those thrillers that loads itself up on twists and red herrings and coincidences to make itself seem smarter than it is never taking the time to realize that a lot of this stuff they've thrown out there just doesn't add up at all.

First Third was actually well done. After the initial plot twist it just turned real lame.

The very end may have been a refreshing 'twist' if you didn't have to force yourself to stay awake the 20 minutes leading up to it. All in all it was mediocre. But the characters themselves were indeed written fairly intelligently during the first third of the movie.

Alone? Farmhouse? Pregnant?

The moment I saw the situation I knew exactly what was going to happen although I personally expected her to whip out a gun from underneath it.

LOL, thanks for the warning, guys! It's really kind of ironic that this POS opens next week in Austria but Hellboy is five months away ...

This is another example of "run-of-the-mill" Hollywood crap. I guessed the real killer without even seeing the film, for pete's sake.

TCM 2003 was the only Hollywood standout horror/thriller film.
