Porcupine Tree's next album tells a ghost story.....

I thought people around here might be interested in this band. If I were to make a serious independant or studio horror film Steven Wilson is the guy I'd get to do the soundtrack. In Absentia is very haunting and now I'm totally siked about the next album. Not just because Porcupine Tree is the best band in rock next to Pink FLoyd but becasue Steven Wilson, who is PT, wrote a horror script and most of the lyrics for the next album are based on it. Someone needs to turn that f'ing script into a movie cause Wilson is a genious.

Porcupine Tree are now in the studio working on their next full length album, their second for Lava Records and Warner Music worldwide.

The as-yet untitled album will have everything from long pieces such as the 10 minute plus "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here," to shorter songs such as "Shallow" that will hopefully continue the postive foundation that "Blackest Eyes" created for the band at radio. As with previous PT albums, there will be a diversity of styles and dynamics but overall the direction is more rock than metal this time. Sessions are scheduled to finish by early June, with a worldwide release date planned for September (not the staggered release that In Absentia received). A major tour will follow.

Steven wrote much of material on his own as usual, but for the first time several songs were also written during collective band writing sessions. Most of the songs are lyrically based on a movie script that SW wrote with Mike Bennion that has been described as a "surreal ghost story."

Hmmm... color me interested.

Lately I been listening to a lot of Lollipop Lust Kill and Dog Fashion Disco. Both are great bands with a very heavy horror emphasis. From lines like "It seems I like it when you cry, my co-dependant lullabye" to a break that cries "Don't fall asleep or we'll mutilate your genitals" I just can't get enough of these 2 bands right now.

So maybe PT needs to be added to my rotation.

Check out 'In Absentia' Bullseye. PT is not a horror themed band just great progressive rock with a bit darker themes although the next album could put them in that genre. Either way I'm positive you'll like it. It's just awesome music.

Well, the others I listed aren't specifically horror themed either, jkust dark. I found a few of the PT track.... looks like I got some CDs to buy soon. thats some good stuff. And a very wide range of styles on it also. From Orchaestral to pure guitar grind. Impressive stuff.

And Strip the Soul is excellent!

Yep. They are truly unique these days. They sound like noone else and are completley original.

Once you check out PT head on over to No-Man which is another Steven Wilson group/project.

Also if you want some really f'n cool background music that's just instrumentation check out Steven Wilson's Bass Communication.

He's a busy guy.

When I saw them live here in CHicago I got within 5 feet of him before security rushed out a door and made me turn back. It was just him, his photogropher and me in this alley next to the theatre. I tell you the guy is a genious like there hasn't been in a very long time. The next PT album should be amazing. I'm dying in anticipation already.
