This movie was pretty entertaining. When it comes to mystery movies I think there are two groups of people- those who try to second guess every scene attempting to figure the story out before the main characters and those who are just along for the ride. I'm in the latter group. I think, though, that people in the first group don't like this movie as much. Fair assumption? Talking about the movie afterward it seemed like, if you were looking, things jumped out fairly easily.

Spoiler question below...

One thing my wife and I couldn't figure out was when/how the motel manager was killed. When was that? I thought Liotta took him out but I can't remember.

Also, I'd like to know more about Coyote's similar story and what kind of differences there are between the movie and his story.

I'm in the latter group as well, but the second twist really turned me off to the film. My friends and I were completely joking around, going "I bet it was that damn kid!" and then it really is that damn kid. The shot of him walking away from the explosion was asinine and only added to the sour taste.

That said, I thought it was a good film. Could have been great, though.

I liked the movie, but I think I fall into that first group you described. I saw it for the first time on HBO last week. When they first reveal what's really going on it pissed me off big time. Mainly just because I'd heard the movie had a great twist when you find out who the killer is, so I figured it was something that maybe you could figure out while watching.

But I watched a few more minutes and it dragged me right back in. Still once they told what was going on it was pretty easy to guess that the kid would turn out to be the killer, mainly because of the opening scene describing the killer.

So I really like the movie anyway. I musta blinked when they showed how the kid killed everyone, how'd he shove the baseball bat through Jake Busey's hean?

As has been pointed out again and again, this movie is almost exactly The Three, the film that Donald Kaufman is writing in Adaptation.

Total guilty pleasure. I enjoyed the hell out of this film.
