Barker + Fillardi + Sci-Fi Channel

I like the first two ingredients but the 3rd one might just spoil the end result.

I mean, SAINT SINNER was Sci-Fi as well, right? But part of that turd's problem was the script and at least Fillardi is a very talented guy who should be able to come up with a good adaptation. Plus, HISTORY OF THE DEVIL should be a lot easier to adapt to film that most of Barker's stuff in that it isn't chock full of supernatural fireworks and creatures that'd demand extensive (and expensive) FX work.

As usual with Barker projets for now I just hope it actually progresses to the point where cameras start rolling ...

Yeah. This made me smile when I read it last night. Sci-Fi has put together a couple of good looking mini-series in the last year so I will remain optimistic. If Sci-Fi takes their time with the script and they get some decent production values, I think it could work. I think they are the ones that did the the History of the Devil audio play. I know I listened to it at their web site and it was really good. Another key aspect will be who they cast to play the Devil. I would have loved to have seen Doug Bradley’s performance back in the Dog Company days. I believe I read that he played the Devil and Jesus for that original production.

I agree. Barker said in an interview many, many years ago that he'd like to make the devil androgynous by casting a woman. But now that Mel Gibson has "stolen" that idea for his own horror flick, THE PASSION, who knows which way they'll go.

Just as long as it's not Al Pacino. 'I'VE GOT SO MANY NAMES!!!!' A woman for the role is a very good idea.

Again I agree. Goddamn did I hate that flick! Surprisingly Barker said he really enjoyed DEVIL'S ADVOCATE in the very same interview I referred to above. But I think it's a safe bet that Sci-Fi won't be able to afford any big name stars, which is just fine IMO, as long as the go for talented unknowns. But for Cuthulu's sake, NO TEENS, please!!!

I just tracked down that interview with Barker that you mentioned, Wetbones. He did say that his Devil wasn't like Pacino's. 'Less of a ranter', was how he put it. He said some interesting stuff about who to cast as the Devil. He mentioned Samuel Jackson and John Malkovich. Of course, that was in 1998 and History of the Devil was going to be a theatrical movie. I'd never heard of that project until I checked out Barker's Revelations site under 'Movies that got away' just now. That section is loaded with great ideas and it's depressingly long.
