Warning Sign

I love this movie.

The virus running rampant in the facility is always a good story.

I like that it was a rage virus, definitely beat 28 Days Later to the punch.

Sam Watterson is great in it, and Yaphett Kotto, besides having a wacky name, delivers a good performance in it.

My only gripe, is that I wish it would have been a little more violent or mean spirited. We needed more crazed scientist action.

I just have fond memories of watching this, Weird Science and Near dark as a kid on summer Saturday nights. (They were all on the same tape.)

Anyone else like this movie?

Haven't seen this in AGES, man. Didn't it feature an early appearance by the wonderful (and vastly underrated) Jeffrey DeMunn?

Yup, as the hippyish biologist, who just so happens to once have worked on a military virus.

But he helps to save the day.

Another good performance.

I have my old tape of this movie, and a DVD-R of it, but I would love a widescreen DVD release of this movie.

Hey, Blue Underground...are you listening?

It came out in 1985.

There's an accident involving a bacteria that causes rage and violence that the military was trying to develop as a weapon (big no-no!).

The facility is sealed, and the town sheriff's wife, who works there is locked inside.
The infected people become homicidal and fight among each other and attack others.

The military shows up to try and take control, but they have the families of the people locked inside to deal with, as well as the maniacs inside.

The sheriff and a former biologist that worked there must find a cure before the infected people die and the contagion spreads beyond the facility.

From IMDB:
In a ultra secret laboratory for the developing of biological weapons, covered as "Agrotek", a research center for agriculture, a serious accident occurs, spreading a sinister bacteria in the laboratory. The security system of the complex, closes and seals the building, with all the personnel inside, making very difficult the struggle for survival, not to mention the actions that the relatives of the enclosed people are thinking to do.

I always get Warning Sign mixed up with another movie starring Robert Urich and JoBeth Williams. All I really remember about it are cattle mutilations, government conspiracies, a deadly virus and Hoyt Axton's stomach exploding and spilling his guts on the highway after using a contaminated toothbrush.

I suppose I could just look it up on IMDB, but where's the fun in that?

That was Endangered Species (1982)

A decent movie. I remember the movie being promoted as almost a UFO type of thriller.

The virus angle is so far removed from that.

Wasn't Coldplay supposed to release WARNING SIGN as their next single?

Only if they go crazy and dismember each other on stage.

I'll buy that on DVD...
This is one of the movies I can remember watching as a kid and liking it. I want to see it again just to know whether or not its still has something worthwhile.

A friend of mine recommended this movie to me when Resident Evil came out saying Anderson's film was blatantly influenced by Warning Sign. For those who've seen it, do you agree the parallels? Haven't seen it myself, but I'm curious.

I don't know if I would say "blatantly influenced." For that to be true the Resident Evil games (as well as 28DL) would have to have been directly influenced by this movie as well. Neither RE or Warning Sign was original with the infection concept so I would have to lean more toward "similar plots based on a pretty general concept." It's pretty much impossible to make a 100% original movie, so comparisons can always be made to something else.
