A look at the cover of the next Fangoria...

They appear to be in full summer movie coverage mode now...

A smidge late on the "First News and Pics" from Alien vs Predator, I think. And that Dracula design is dick.
They've got a point, though. That Dracula does bite.

It's sad how shitty Van Helsing is looking. I really hoped it would be cool, but each new picture just looks worse and worse.
I bought this last weekend when I was out in PA...weeks early from the release date.

A decent issue, but full of the useless summer filler.

I will say this, Countess Anna is going to be in her glory, there's 2 or 3 Van Helsing articles.
With every new Fango article, I become more concerned about Van Helsing. I think it was in the last issue that I learned about the little people on the set who were playing Dracula's CGI enhanced helpers. Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale and the sets look pretty cool. I'm just worried about everything else. It does kind of look like a 30 Days of Night vampire.

I couldn't agree more, however this and SkyCaptain are the 2wo flicks I want to see most still...

I'll defend Fango until my dying day. They have their ups and downs but I grew up with the mag. Love it.

Nope, wasn't aware of that. Didn't mean to offend ...

Not offended at all.
I've written for them, too. As has a terrific ex-girlfriend of mine. Tony and Mike are A-Okay in my book, and they do the best they can with what they've got.
I actually like that Dracula design. Don't really get the hate for it.

Ryan and Dan, your both in Journalism so I will ask this to you.....
how do you get to write an article for things like Dreamwatch and Fangoria? Do you just write and ask or what? Especially if you have never been printed before. And does self published stuff and stuff for other websites count as previous experience?
Jamie, after what you did and said, what makes you think I'm someone you can turn to for career advice? Just because I tolerate your return to these boards after being banned, don't dare think we're ever going to be buddies.

Just a simple statement of fact.
Fair enough.
Fango is awesome but they should have ran with another Orc cover for God's sake. What's your article on Ryan eh?

I'd love nothing more than to write something for Rue Morgue. I love those guys and gals.
Hmmm....Orc or Roxburgh?

Roxburgh.

Ryan, what's the article going to be on, if you are allowed to say, that is.
Thanks.

Really? What issue/article?

Now I can read this magazine and say I know two people who wrote for them...

I actually had a letter printed in the issue that had Virus on the cover a few years ago.

I asked about an article Tony once mentioned about The Misfits, since they are such horror fanatics.

He said that an article was coming...it's been years, but I'm still waiting...
Dracula on the cover kinda looks like Ben Templesmiths vampires in 30 days of night / Dark Days.
"Allllright! Fangoria will give me ten bucks for this picture!"
I hate Drac's teeth. Just had to say that.
Some of these Van Helsing designs are reaching Catwoman-caliber levels of hilarity.

This could be the summer of unintentional comedy.

Spider-Man save us!
Actually, there are worse things out there...

"White Chicks", anyone? -shudders-

Only one little thing though...

It's a completely different friggin' ballpark. No one would expect a movie like "White Chicks" to be anything remotely watchable. It's just a given. It's your run of the mill unfunny comedy.

But it's not an excuse to let something like Van Helsing, which should be a fun, QUALITY action piece paying respect to some of the greatest literary and cinematic characters of all time, something dipped in mediocrity and downright lameness.

There'll always be bad movies. Ya deal with that. But its bad movies that had potential for greatness that truly depress me.
Okay then, the last hour of "Dreamcatcher" was unintentionally funny...
Yes, that was another shitty movie.

The effects in the first one were way beyond horrible. As bad as you may think VH's effects were, to me, they were just uber crappy.

And the spiderman 2 trailer always makes me laugh...shes looking OUT THE WINDOW when the car is slammed through the glass, looking straight at it, and he notices it first? Ok spider sense, but you would think you would see a car coming straight towards you, leaning in for a kiss or no.

And how about the bomb in the first one? It blows off latex mask but not his skin?

That said, it is all opinion, but in my opinion the effects in the first spidey are far inferior to anything I have seen in van helsing thus far. That hellbeast dracula looks awesome.
Calm down, chico.

This ain't Spidey vs Dracula: the Video Game.

I didn't make any mention of effects.

I was making a statement about general film quality. Three movies- Spider-Man 2, Catwoman, and Van Helsing. Two of the three trailers are horseshit.
One of the trailers is horseshit, IMO...

Spidey proves my theory that Mary Jane might know Peter's secret after the kiss at the end of the first movie. Hmmm...

And you all know I like my Anime/Manga/Visual Kei inspired Vamps....
Hey I didn't mean to insult you dude- I was just givin my thoughts on Spidey. Sorry man, no offense meant

I still want someone to tell me why that drac design on the cover is so hated. I would just like to know why it's so hated and why people think Van Helsing will suck, and with comments a lil deeper than it's a Sommers movie or the CGI will suck, which practically everyone says about most CGI.
First time I saw it in the Super Bowl advert, I was really taken aback by it....

But I somehow find it intriguing that sometimes the deadliest creatures are the most gorgeous....and it's their looks that can let your guard down...one moment Visual Kei boy, next, dental work that rival a pirahna's. So I really don't have a problem with the special effects. I'm only concerned about getting lost in a story with movies like these.
Hey, I didn't mean to offend either. Neither of us were involved in making either movies, so its nothing personal.

But to answer your question- I can't speak for everyone, but here's my feelings on Van Helsing.

I was psyched for this movie. I dig the first Mummy, Deep Rising; I'm definitely not a Sommers hater. I'm also not a big CGI nitpicker.

My problem with the film is at its very core. It's just so poorly conceived. And like I stated in an earlier post, its the great potential that this movie had that makes my dissapointment so much greater.

It just looks like one huge mess. Dracula doesn't look laughable because of special effects, he look's laughable because he's just poorly designed. That face would look funny drawn out in a concept sketch too, its nothing against the digital artists. The design is hated because its completely UN-Dracula. He's not a bit scary, intimidating, or even has any of that "vamp sex appeal".
Eric, it might be because you're a guy. I and many other ladies would jump him in a second. Hee hee.
Oh no, I'm well aware of when a man has sex appeal. Not afraid to admit that I would've jumped the entire cast of Interview with a Vampire.

Roxburgh's Drac though, does nothing for this honest fellow.
Maybe it's the fact I found him sexy at the end of LXG...and because he reminds me of Camui Gackt when he was with Malice Mizer.....or I've watched too much anime....

Nope. But I hear cars coming through windows is a regular occurence with happy couples. Damn the 300,000 plus deaths related to cars smashing through windows while in a kiss occurances. They never saw it comin'.

Ah, guilty of that thought also, I am. Though you didn't think he was attractive for the first half of the film where he was doing his best Rex Harrison impression?

The point is, when you're in love the outside world doesn't always make a huge difference anymore. When I was in love, there could've been a hobbit sitting on a table playing Parcheesi with Darth Maul and Osama Bin Laden, but if I'd been looking into my girlfriend's eyes at the time, I doubt I'd even have even seen it, let alone paid attention to it. Because that's what love does. It sucks you in, and you're at the mercy of your emotions. And the world outside your relationship might not as well be there. Well, at least that's what happens with me.

And MJ is in love with Peter.
Sorry, I was a bit TOO sarcastic.

I understand your point completely, but it still struck me as really silly. But then I wasn't a fan of the first Spidey, so I guess it's harder for me to forgive stuff like that.
