"Mummy 3"-Things don't look good....

Moviehole.net reports that Brendan Fraser and Stephen Sommers have BOTH passed on the next "Mummy" film.

I know that Sommers has said the next movie he wants to direct won't be anything like his monster movies, so I can understand that, but I kept hearing Brendan say he did want to make it. Oh well.

If they set it in 1977 during the "King Tut" craze involving an older Alex O'Connell and his family, it would somehow work...

The phrase "dodged a bullet" comes to mind.

This franchise is thankfully dead.

VAN HELSING VS. THE MUMMY RETURNS

If Van Helsing does OK, I bet they move ahead with the Creature From The Black Lagoon as their next cash cow franchise.

Or put the Creature from the Black Lagoon in Van Helsing 2.

If you put some tits in it, crappy actors and lots of gore, ala Reanimator, these boards would lap it up

You say that like it's a BAD thing.

I was kidding, well half way. I can see why people like flicks like that, but I am not a fan of tonnes of gore or nudity. My taste is more mainstream here. I prefer most of the studio stuff like Wrong Turn, DOTD 2004, etc.

I try less mainstream stuff like Demons, Zombi, City of the Living Dead, Dead Next Door, etc, but it NEVER appeals to me. It's always usually really badly made. I really can understand why people go for these type of flicks but it just doesn't do it for me.

I think the main reason that many low budget horror flicks resonate is due to the fact that, not being bound by the marketing demands of a studio, they're free to take chances with plot and character. I mean, you watch the original TCM or THE HILLS HAVE EYES for the first time, and you have no eartly idea where they're headed and who's going to live or die. There's no sense of predictability. Granted, plenty of lower budget fare stinks just as badly as big budget popcorn fare, but more often than not these films are done out of genuine passion.

While the studio flicks are generally done out of love for the almighty dollar. And it often shows.

Sometimes you get the best of both worlds, though. Just look at THE EXORCIST.

Honestly, gratuitous gore and nudity do nothing for me if they're not germaine to the story. I was kidding on that (not that I'm opposed to ogling scantily clad women, of course) and that's not a factor that causes me to seek films out.

Well, Sommers has officially said that the universes of the "Mummy" and "Van Helsing" are NEVER going to intertwine.

Besides, this board is called CREATURE Corner, am I right?

No Brendan Frasier means it has the slightest chance of being good but will most likely be DTV trash. I hate the first two with a passion.

As long as Rachel Weisz's fine-ass in it. Nevermind, it will still suck.
