Goddamn that's too cool for words and now I must dust off my Movie Magic Sreenwriter 2000 and get to work.

I thought the average Option these days was $60,000 not $500. Ah well, It'll be a cool several hundred thousand when I win.

When's the due date? At least 2 months I hope.

Carpenter loves Westerns, I think I'll attempt to scribble out a Lovecraftian Spaghetti Western.

The look of terror on her face when he finally frappes her to death will be priceless.
That's great.

/scribbles down furious notes.

Of course I've been into him since I was three, and I can write, so I'll see you at Precinct 13 B*TCH!!!

I believe it's time to take in a few Howard Hawks' movies, develop a kick ass female lead, and a hero NO ONE wants to f*ck with!

Okay, go back, read the story. In it you will see that in order to be eligible for the contest, you have to be a member of CS Daily, which you can do through CS's site. Once you do that, that official rules become available. If they were available freely to non-members, they would be flooded with scripts from people that were...well, non-members.

Seriously, it's all there on the site.

Hmmm, $29 monthly... for a chance to see John Carpenter reject a good script.

Will he be able to judge something good? He really hasn't been flexing his excellent judgement skills lately, churning out some sad scripts.

Nevertheless, I've got something I'd LOVE for him to direct... THE FOG meets THE BEYOND, with a little THEY LIVE... (hoping he's reading this).

ok thank you....it wasn't obvious. SERIOUSLY
post #31 of 56
It's $29 yearly.
Bizarrely, I'm about 80% done on a script that would make a perfect John Carpenter movie - though it's not strictly "horror". I may check this out.
Am I the only one that see nothing about Carpenter or this contest on the Creative Screenwriter website?
How I understand it, as was said earlier, is that you get the details upon subscribing.
which very well could be some evil ploy to get millions of people to register, they should have some official statement. that's would be professional...especially if they wanted good scripts by people who don't waste 30 bucks to subscribe to their magazine, because they're trying to be a writer and would actually like to eat once in awhile
post #36 of 56
If it is a scam then John Carpenter will never get to see the script for my horror comedy BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD in which a sassy black woman from the hood moves into a house of lily white zombies and improves their afterlives through the use of ebonics and hip hop fashions.

You don't have to subscribe to CS, you have to subscribe to CS Daily, which is "A free magazine on screenwriting delivered to you daily via e-mail. Each issue of CS Daily features screenwriting news of the day, an original feature article (topics rotate on a daily basis, see below), and the DVD of the Day review. At the end of every week, CS Daily content will be posted here."

Here is the direct link to sign up for it. Just fill in the box on the right.

I have a great rough draft for a Carpenter movie, tenatively called "Escape from Des Moines".

I admire you guys who can get a script in time for a comp deadline. My screenplay is aiming to be like 80 pages long and im only on page 25 after about two or three months.

I am new to this screenwriting thing, I dont know any screenwriters here......would one of you guys who write scripts for fun PM me? I would like to ask some advice if any of you would be so kind. I would appriciate it guys if you could just pm me or something.

Important Contest Tip: Make sure whatever your script is the title starts off with "JOHN CARPENTER'S". That always gets his attention.

Heh.

So I'm serious. President's Day. All the dead presidents rise from their graves. I can see it now an Abe Lincoln zombie. Just think of the marketing possibilities once it hits the big time. Zombie presidents action figures by Todd McFarlane.

And then you could follow it up with a remake of MARS NEEDS WOMEN called VALENTINE'S DAY or VD14 for short.

As far as I can tell, Carpenter is only going to read the WINNER of this contest... which means the winner is actually determined by the Creative Screenwriting staff.

Also, they went out of their way to point out they're only interested in SUSPENSE stories. Meaning, I assume, something that could be done low-budget.

I'd think that would go without saying. You never hear the name John Carpenter attached to romantic comedies or courtroom dramas.
