Holy shit write John Carpenters next movie? - Page 2

Naturally (although Memoirs of an Invisible Man was the nearest romance attempt). But I think they meant to imply that they're not interested in epic sci-fi or grandiose horror apocalypse stories. Which isn't what Carpenter does either, but you know people will send in scripts like that anyway.

Only "suspense" and or horror? That is the problem with not only this contest but Carpenter himself.

He needs to do something different for a change. Not another shit horror movie with his old bag of tricks...not another remake or sequel to one of his one cult hits.

Just a simple story about reluctant heroes trying to survive the night. Doesn't have to be horror. Shouldn't be horror.

This is the guy who did Assault on Precinct 13, Big Trouble In Little China, and Elvis after all...

It says, "That means it is only open to suspense scripts – great stories that build slowly to a shattering conclusion. Think Halloween, think Escape From New York, think John Carpenter's The Thing."

They're clearly not ruling out an Escape From New York style film.

Fuck all that. Carpenter is a horror God. He must make more horror. Now!

Take The Sons Of Katie Elder, add a dash of The Fog and Big Trouble In Little China and whisk through with Stagecoach and Rio Bravo.

Add some creepy asian ghosts.

And I have Outlores.

1st of June. It'll be tight, but dammit.

And 'suspense' to the screenwriting industry means anything from Suspect to The Thing. They just don't want to be deluged with limp slasher/gore/alien invasion pictures from teenage Carpenter fans, I expect.
