It's a ROM version (he's playing it on his computer). This lets him save at any point in the game, so if he messes up halfway through a level, or even just misses jumping on a goomba or something, he can go back and do it over, hundreds of times, until he gets it right. But to us it just looks like he's playing straight through.

Plus he had the ROM slowed down to like half speed, as well.

You're seeing only a few frames of continuous play, over many many replays, seemlessly spliced together. It's like hand-drawn animation, except with pre-rendered images.

still damned cool to watch.

Real or not, that man has played way too much Super Mario.

i used to be able to finish that game in around half an hour, its not hard, you can find two whsitles in the first world, use one to get to the warp, then use one in the warp and you go straight to world 8.

As much as I want to believe this is fake, I have many other videos to say otherwise.

the Japanese ppl do things called SUPERPLAY. I have seen speed runs for many games (Metroid Prime for example 1 hour 43 mins.)
He does this 4-jump bomb jump. crazy shit. very interesting but I would like to say this is real...

i used to be able to beat super mario 3 in a little less than 20 minutes, so that 11 minutes may be real dunno.

It's not real.

The guy has been interviewed on his own website and has said that he slowed the game way down and "saved and restarted" numerous times each level. The man himself has never claimed it to be real.

End of story.
