Agreed. That was a scary finish.

How do you like their chances against Tampa?
I think they have a shot. Some people seem to be writing them off since they were swept by Tampa in the regular season, but some of them were early, and two of them involved Hackett.

I think the 6-game series works in their favor since they were nowhere near as physical as last year, and they could have a shot at stealing Game 1 with their momentum.

But hey, I haven't given Tampa enough credit this year. I was waiting for them to crumble and they have not. Like most playoff series, it will probably come down to which goalie is hotter.

What's interesting about this X factor is that Khabibulin is the hotter goalie going into the series, but Tampa Bay will be coming off of a 9 game rest. They weren't exactly beat up to begin with, so I think the layoff will hurt more than it helps, especially with regards to the 'Bulin wall. That's the edge the Flyers will have to take advantage of early in the series if they want to win. If this series goes long, and Khabi gets hot, the Flyers will lose.

I had to watch game 1 on a little 6 inch tv at work. That sucked.

It also bites that Philly lost. I've been rooting for the Flyers for the past 6 years now. And I live in Detroit.......uh oh.

The way they handled Tampa Bay in the 1st and beginning of the 2nd periods, though, gives hope that Philly can pull this one out.

....and in the west......who cares. I mean, I love seeing the underdogs go far, but it's pretty much up to who wins the East.

Yeah, after dominating so much (yet not scoring), it seemed as though as soon as Tampa got that second goal Philly just caved.

I still have hope. But I have to admit, I'll be a little happy if Tampa wins as well, since they're in the southeast.
on a side note....yay Canada for nabbing the gold. jesus, I didn't know there was a tournament in progress until my kid sister told me they were in the last game in overtime.

I need to get back home. Or at least get good cable to keep up on the sport.
Philly up three quickly.

I do not know what is up with these flyers, because some days they play out of their minds and it looks like nobody can play with them. Others? They lose 3-1 to the Lightning and do not look like they belong on the same ice.

I hope they keep the intensity up.

These guys are just toying with my emotions.
Great effort tonight. To be honest, they played so-so in every opener so far. They don't seem to get into a good groove in game ones, but they got the bounces in the first two series, but not on Saturday. Tonight, they showed that they have what it takes to beat this team.

I think TB is too good to lose two in a row in Philly, but the Flyers have a great opportunity in their hands at the moment.

If they get a quick goal or two on Thursday night, watch out. Especially with how bonkers that arena will be.
yeah, I can't wait to crank up the volume on that game. If Philly gets an early goal or gets the rough play going quickly that building will be filled with electricity.

I can't imagine what it must be like to actually go to a game in Philadelphia.
I was at that Flyers/Sens brawl towards the end of the season. The place can be watered down at points with a lot of business types, but in the playoffs (or during a regular season game with a lot of energy), it's an amazing place to be.

The only way that place won't be jumping is if TB scores a quick two.

Yup. Games like tonight make me wonder why I bother. And yet I'll be bouncing in front of the TV come Saturday. I'm such a sucker.
Same here.
That goal at the end made things scary, but a good overall effort today. I'm hoping they wake up for 5 and 6 like they did in the Toronto series.
I still have hope.
Those two nearly back-to-back goals last night were pretty impressive under the circumstances, I thought. They came close to tying it up more than once after that, and kept Tampa from scoring again until the empty net.

Here's hoping the home crowd rejuvenates them. I still have hope too.
Yeah, Khabibulin played well in the third. I think if they win game 6, they have a great shot in game 7.

Fuckin' A, Cowtown, fuckin' a.

Congrats to the Flames!

Now I get to root against an entire COUNTRY during the Stanley Cup...
Calgary went NUTS last night. It was awesome to be downtown with 30,000+ fans stuff into 15 city blocks celebrating.

GO FLAMES GO
Go Flames!!!
Overtime, oh man this is going to be a wreck on my nerves.
What an awesome game last night, and tonight's game is freakin' great as well (currently 4:00 left in the first OT).

Like the NBA, I'm not a fan of the regular season, but I LOVE playoff hockey.
YES YES YES!!!
I was at the Phillies game tonight, and let me say it was a MADHOUSE tonight with the Flyers game across the street. All I can say is Primeau=God.
FUCKING A! Primeau is just amazing, what a performance. That was a sphincter-clencher all the way through. I bet being there in person was an unforgettable experience.

I'll be wearing my Philly jersey, probably drunk off my ass and screaming at the television come Saturday's game.

GO FLYERS!
I got someone to work for me on Saturday night so that I can watch game 7. What a fucking game, though. Game 6 was intense. INTENSE.

I hope The Flyers can win game 7 so that Primeau can win that fucking Conn Smythe trophy.
fuck.
Well, it was a good run. Disappointing, but in retrospect, it's amazing that they came this far, and played this team so well.

Probably will go down as one of the favorite Philly teams in my lifetime so far, along with the 93 Phils and 01 Sixers.
Calgary vs Tampa Bay on Tonight. Go Calgary!
Tampa Bay looked a little dazed and confused out there tonight, and Calgary's six-day rest sure didn't seem to hamper them in any way. Looking forward to the next game, even though I really don't give a tinker's cuss for either team...
The reason why I wasn't on board was the playoff.

Les Canadiens gave a good show and the others matchup were very cool.

I like Tampa Bay, it has a lot of Quebecois in It, but deep down I prefer that the cup goes to Calgary. They have such great fans, almost as great as Montreal. Only in Canadian cities you will see fans getting crazy after winning a game in a series( honking, shouting, every body acknowledging each other etc....)

I think that Tampa Bay isn't a great hockey town, but maybe if they win , people will get more in to it.
its gonna be great when we win the cup.. im looking forward to how crazy this city is going to get, and its already friggen crazy

thats right.. not "if" we win...

Canada reclaims the sport of hockey as its own.

And it only took 11 Years to do so.

Calgary played amazing in the game, full of grit and heart and hard work and you gotta love Jerome Ignitla's breakway goal.

This year's Phillies are pretty good. Still early in the division but I take in a game every now and then. Don't watch til the playoffs roll around and considering how long it's been since the Pirates have been anywhere close to the playoffs I have steadily lost interest in baseball the last few years. Was piqued slightly last year when the Phillies were battling it out with the Marlins towards the end of the season but once they lost -- no more.

Back on topic, same deal as with baseball. Penguins weren't whiffing the playoffs this year. Now I'll wait for the US Geriatric team to hit World cup ice and enjoy that. Can't stand watching Flyers hockey, much less when the refs aren't calling penalties. Not that the lightning weren't trapping and icing like fiends too. Glad to see Calgary take the first game. Won't watch but I'll keep an eye on the box score in the daily paper.

Calgary vs Lightning Tonight

Hopefully Calgary will win another one.
We need a 7 game series with lots of OT because every report related to Hockey lately that hasn't been about the Stanley Cup has been about the inevitability of a prolonged lockout. So we better enjoy this while it lasts.
Several questionable penalties last night, but Tampa was a force to be reckoned with. First game, 4-1 Calgary, second game, 4-1 Tampa.

Saturday oughta be pretty damn good...

They're still honking away and screaming "Go Flames Go!" in the street, and I'm a good 25 blocks away from the big party.

Sheesh. I'd like to get a bit of sleep at least.

But it was a fine game. I figured Florida would take it the way they owned most of the third period and the overtime.
saturday is gonna be a crazy day to live in this city....

i cannot wait.

go. flames. f*ckin. go.

*stocks up on booze and riot gear*
So Calgarians and fans of the Flames, is there a conspiracy? That replay they showed seemed to indicate Gelinas redirected a goal in the 3rd period but only the TV people seemed to realize it. Is this going to turn into a Sabres/Stars debacle?

Me, I'm just glad we're getting a 7 game series.
robbed. F tampon bay and especially St. Louis..... never come back to my city or we'll cannibalize you.

no offence to people who live in tampa... im just really really really mad right now.
Nah, no conspiracy on the Gelinas "goal". It was very hard to even tell if it was completely over the line and could be successfully argued that it was redirected in by Gelinas skate anyways.

As a Flames fan, if that play had been done by Tampa I would of lost it if it was counted as a goal so it would be fairly hypocritical of myself to say that it should of counted for the Flames.

Even if the Flames win game 7, it won't be the same. This city was ready to explode on Saturday and not being able to really seemed to deflate a lot of people. I imagine if they pull off the win, it'll still be a madhouse here, but nothing like what was ready to go yesterday.

ROBBED!
Not totally on-topic for the series, but I'm glad ABC is losing the hockey rights. The over-sentimentalization of the Andreychuk situation, the very lame intro, the trio of commentators all talking over each other on every play, it's just a mess. No wonder these finals are getting the worst ratings ever. It's weird, too, because generally I kind of like Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. I've NEVER liked Davidson, though, so maybe he's just bringing everyone down with him in an undeniable cone of ignorance. And enough with the the lame lines about "someone will skate the cup tonight." No fucking shit! It's game 7 of a 7 game series.

Maybe I'm just testy because I won't be seeing any NHL hockey until the next Soprano's season from the looks of things.
Well.. i can officially stop caring about the NHL for another 15 years
post #100 of 109
STUPID charging penalty with 1 minute left. BAD coaching on Calgary's part in the last 30 seconds. He turned a 30 second long 5 on 4, into a 5 second long 5 on 4. So what if there was a chance that TB would have won the faceoff...it wouldnt have mattered. You'd have a better chance with 30 seconds then you would with 5.
