Anticipated summer movies

Thread Starter
I noticed summer is approaching fast. What are the most anticipated movies in chronological order?
Oh, well, there's... um...

Gee.

Harry Potter?
Aliens vs. Predator?

Help me out here, people!
Anticipating Alien vs. Predator is like looking foward to chemotherapy for ball-cancer.
So what's a good metaphor if we're looking forward to White Chicks?
For starters-

THEN
Troy (5/14)
Shrek 2 (5/21)
Day After Tomorrow (5/28)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (6/4)
Mindhunters (6/4)
Chronicles of RIddick (6/11)
Stepford Wives (6/11)
Garfield (6/11)
Around the World in 80 Days (6/18)
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (6/18)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (6/25)
Spider-Man 2 (7/2)
King Arthur (7/9)
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (7/9)
I, Robot (7/16)
A Cinderella Story (7/16)
The Bourne Supremacy (7/23)
Catwoman (7/23)
Thunderbirds (8/6)
Alien Vs. Predator (8/13)
Cellular (8/20)
Exorcist: The Beginning (8/20)

Well, I'll see the majority of them, anyway.

Troy (out of curiosity -- big fanboy of Homer, ya know)
Spiderman 2

Seriously though, in terms of extravaganza and event-flicks, this year is seriously going to pale in comparison to last year. Hell, with x2, the Matrix movies, LotR -- It might be a while before the epic genre kicks it up a notch.

I live in the boondocks, so independant film is way beyond my reach until DVD, that is.

EDIT: Anna's list above just proves to me how shitty this year is shaping up, at least in terms of boxoffice epics.

Spidey 2

Troy

Punisher

Sky captain

Chronicles of Riddick
It's a pretty weak summer, if you ask me. But here it is-

1. Spider-Man 2 (number one since Spider-Man 1 left theaters)
2. Sky Captain
3. Terminal
4. Collateral
5. Alien vs Predator (could be a shit storm, could be fun)
6. The Bourne Supremacy
7. Van Helsing (falling further and further down the list, it's barely a blip on the screen anymore)
8. Catwoman (could be the best time at the movies all year; bringing an oxygen tank)

Couldn't give a shit about Potter, Riddick, I Robot...
Aha! Chronicles of Riddick. Found one.

Spidey 2, as well, I suppose.
Troy and Spiderman 2 are the only movies I am even remotely interested in this summer.

The summer movie season used to be fun before I became cynical now I find it yawn inducing.
Spiderman 2

There are a few other movies I want to see, but nothing else comes close to how much I need to see this.

Troy fascinates me at this moment. I'm curious if it can live up to the hype. Spidey 2 of course. Interested in Collateral but outside of that nothing.

I was interested in Chronicles of Riddick but after watching XxX recently anything with Vin Diesel makes me groan now. Even the trailer seemed kind of weak. Still that quote " A dark Star Wars " has me intrigued about this flick. Oh and Thandie Newton looks hot as ever in it that counts for something. Who knows I waffle on this flick.

King Arthur seems cool but Fuqua is out of his element. I'll be listening to the buzz on that one very closely.

It didn't sound THAT wretched in the trailer.

And this is going to be a relatively quiet summer... looking forward to Sky Captain the most.
At first I thought Sky Captain looked pretty cool. After watching the trailer a few times now I have my doubts this film is gonna be any good. Hope i'm wrong but I chuckle everytime I see 3 hands go up pointing then 3 tommy guns raising up to shoot.
Well, I'd rather hear some Dutch and Romanian accents about now....Hee hee.
Sky Captain, Thunderbirds, and AvsP out of the same sick fanboy pull that got my ass in the seat for Freddy vs Jason.

The rest can blow.

This summer is a small, cold waiting room before the main event-

Yes, I do like the Batman and Star Wars sagas, BUT

and

are enough to make me happy this summer.
THEY'RE SO HOTTT!!! I want NOODZ!
I think you took that out of context....

To be honest, I thought last summer's releases were few and far between...

Then again, there was that thing called LXG that I enjoyed, and then POTC took the world by storm....
Wasn't THE BROTHERS GRIMM supposed to come out during the summer? I guess it got bumped to fall, a la MASTER & COMMANDER.

In any case, it's still my most anticipated movie this year.
first i am waiting for Kate Beckinsale i mean Van Helsing
then there is Troy
Day After Tomorrow
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Spider-Man 2
King Arthur
Anchorman
I, Robot
Thunderbirds

and after seeing a new Dodgeball trailer on The Girl Next Door - i want to see that even more now.
DAY AFTER TOMORROW is by far my most anticipated this summer.

Then SPIDEY 2, SHREK 2, TROY, um....THE VILLAGE, HARRY POTTER, ANCHORMAN.......think that's it. VAN HELSING woulda been on here but then I read those reviews and actually heard Beckinsale's accent in the trailer.

Every time you say that, Countess, I die a little more.

Anywho, I'll rank 'em on my patented "meh" scale.

0 "meh"s = Genuine fanboi love. Or, genuine gleeful hate.
1 "meh" = I'm mildly interested. This could earn a matinee sometime on opening weekend.
2 "meh"s = I don't really care for what I see. I'll watch it in the theatres. Eventually. If I have nothing better to do.
3 "meh"s = You know how Blockbuster has those "Rent two, get one free" promotions?
4 "meh"s = The epitome of forgettable. As in that teeny chick flick that just came out... what's the name... damn...

Spiderman 2: 0 "meh"s. I'm there on opening day.
Van Helsing: 2 "meh"s. Two hours of crappy accents. Not just any crappy accents... crappy Romanian accents.
Garfield: 3 "meh"s. Best not to think about this one.
King Arthur: 1 "meh". As an overall filmic experience this seems like it will be a bit of a let-down. The trailer's plenty of fun. But here's the real selling point: Keira Knightley in Celtic bondage gear. Can't ignore that.
I, Robot: 3 "meh"s. I really want to believe this... adaptation... doesn't exist.
The Bourne Supremacy: 0 "meh"s. What can I say? I'm a Damon fan. And the first was better than expected.
Chronicles of Riddick: 2 "meh"s. I've just been burnt too many times on the whole Hollywood apocalyptic sci-fi thriller mini-industry. They almost never live up to the hype. See, "Matrix, Sequels".
Around the World In 80 Days: 4 "meh"s. A Disney live-action adaptation of a Jules Verne novel. Now that's unique.
Catwoman: 0 "meh"s. I can't fuckin wait. Someday, someone will put together a "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" commentary for this film (bootleg, I hope). Comedy nirvana will then have been acheived.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story: 4 "meh"s. I know nothing of this.
Stepford Wives: 2 "meh"s. A film that struggles to answer the ancient question, "What would the world be like if you could make Nicole Kidman do whatever you wished?" I doubt they're going to use any of my ideas.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 0 "meh"s. It's my favorite book in the series.
Alien Vs. Predator: 4 "meh"s. This is fan fic, not a film script.
Troy: 0 "meh"s. I'm geniunely excited about this one. Damn Trojans had it coming.

Amen. Although since they're going to be opening about six weeks apart, I'm not sure it'll be much of a showdown...

Dodgeball and Around the World in 80 Days look like they might be fun, actually. Disney didn't have anything to do with 80 Days' production, they're just handling distribution. That Dodgeball trailer makes me laugh. Here's hoping it has some success, unlike Baseketball.

And Brothers Grimm was always locked into November.
Looking forward to Van Helsing(and have my fingers crossed that it is a good time), and Man on Fire(but that really is more of a Spring flick). Other than that...Blade 3. Oh YEAH, it got moved back! Stupid, Stupid move. Other than that the only one I can think of is The Bourne Supremacy. I am sure I will see many of the "Big" movies, but this looks like a really weak summer. Of course, I thought last year's lineup looked good so...
I can“t wait to see The Village. I think it could be great.
Spiderman 2
Troy
Chronicles

I'm really, really anticipating Day After Tommarow though. It looks like just the kind of kick-ass ride summer movies are intended to be.

I was looking forward to Van H but it's getting troubling reviews and the trailers look like crap. Kate, Kate, Kate --- such beauty wasted. I was burned once by Underworld, I'm wavering on weather to skip this one now. Her accent in the trailers caused me, actual, acute physical pain. Maybe I can "look forward" to it like I'm looking forward to the campy trainwreck that will be Catwoman.

Troy and Sky Captain (pushed back to Sept) and maybe Dodgeball are all that get more than a mehh out of me.
