Bonds reaches 660, I don't give a shit - Page 2

Griffey always played in a great hitter's park... Bonds always played in pitcher's parks.
We could say that Hank Aaron played in an expansion era. We could say Bonds used steroids. We can say Ruth played in a league that was not integrated and had protection. We can say Griffey had a hitters park. Sosa plays at Wrigley 81 games a year. Todd Helton plays in Colorado. Bob Gibson had a higher mound. All of the modern players are playing with a strike zone half the size of what it was in the 60s. The guys today have the luxury of video tape. In Ruth's era, glove technology had not advanced to what it was today making diving plays and backhanded grabs much harder to make.

The thing is, every player has things going for them or not going for them. Some of those things are bigger then others. I tend to believe pitching today is better then it ever has been because of the worldwide talent pool. The thing hampering pitchers is not expansion, but the strike zones. Plus, how does a pitcher study video tape to get himself better? Hitting has advanced with the use of technology much faster then pitching has. The split fingered fastball was the last innovation in pitching. To blame Griffey for the Skydome is like blaming Sosa for Wrigley, and Ruth for playing with only white players.

Though, Griffey never cheated. You cannot hold that against him.

I was in Seattle when they destroyed it and had a good seat for the festivities. It was cool.

See, I don't agree with this at all. The guy was still-when given the oppurtunity-putting up a better than average OBP, so I can't say he was "past the day he should've hung 'em up" because he was in fact doing better than most.

He may have been a shadow of his former self, but he was still a productive player.

Henderson's numbers stack up with anyone that has ever played. He will probably suffer for the same thing Bonds suffered from: being an asshole. Henderson could be considered one of the top 20 players in the history of the game given his position and his influence on the game. I shudder to think of putting him up there with the best, but you cannot deny his greatness.
