Goodfellas

So I finished the PS2 Mafia, and despite it's flaws, the strong cinematic story and cutscenes really endure it to me. I loved
it, especially the ending.

So I decided to rent out Goodfellas. Martin Scorcese is a brilliant film maker, no doubt. My first taste of his movies was the excellent Raging Bull, before moving on to Gangs of New York, which I also thought was executed with stylish brilliance. Now that my interest in mob movies was piqued, I thought well might as well rent one from a guy who has entertained me on every movie I had seen so far (admittedly two isn't a great amount).

But this movie is excellent. The cast is very very solid, but I must admit I was surprised as I thought Deniro would be the focus of the movie. But Liotta does a fantastic job. I really loved the movie, the only thing I wasn't fond of is how his wife becomes a crack whore for no reason.

Marty's wigs don't come off!

I love Marty and Jimmy's antagonistic story thread in the flick. Comic GOLD.

And from day one, Karen Hill was no innocent. It doesn't take much to imagine her getting hooked on junk, the same way she was seduced by everything else in the materialistic Wiseguy life.

(Not to mention all that time being neglected by her husband...)

I know there are women, like my best friends, who would have gotten out of there the minute their boyfriend gave them a gun to hide. But I've gotta admit the truth. It turned me on

In my top 10 films of all time.

Don't get me wrong, I really DO like it. But I personally like Godfather 1 and 2, Casino, Carlito's Way and Donnie Brasco better than this. That said I do own it and watch it a couple times a year.

Sublime film. Goodfellas losing to DWW at Oscar time is worse than RB losing to OP in my book.

Speaking of books, check out Wiseguys by Nick Pileggi, on which the film was based - wonderful read.

Agreed.

It's arguably Scorsese's best work. The entire cast is gold.

I'd take it over The Godfather films anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Anyone care to translate? dww? rb? op? Usually, it's a good idea to spell out the names once before you refer to them this way.

DWW - Dances With Wolves.
RB - Raging Bull.
OP - Ordinary People.

Thought the Oscar reference would make it clear. Apologies.

Thanks, man. I can't keep up with the Oscars from this year, let alone 30 years ago. I actually did figure out DWW, but I didn't know OP beat RB for best picture.
