nope. contract negotiations went bad. WWE wanted to have complete control over everything Austin did (outside of the WWE, including movie deals, personal appearances, etc...)
Austin said he believed that what he did away from the WWE was his business and did not believe they should take money from him for things un-wrestling related, but Vince wants to own everyone who works for him, so no new contract was signed.
It was not really a firing, as much as a decision by both parties not to resign a new contract.
