NBA Playoffs 2004 - Page 2

Needless to say I thought that was impossible....hot damn...
If the Lakers win the championship, I will be forced to give up caring about the NBA for awhile.

I'm not a Spurs fan, I'm an anybody but the Lakers fan right now. They are much too smug for me.
Derek Fisher.....man am I thankful for that little man who could...
This series is over, losing like that at home... the Spurs should be ashamed of themselves.
Man does Popavhic sound devestated...
that was probably the most incrediable ending to a game i've ever seen. my mom was so fucking mad. she absolutely hates the lakers. sure fuck i do too but how can you not appreciate that ending. monkaholic i wouldn't say the series is over yet for the spurs but it's not looking too good for them. about the heat, over the last 21 regular season games they went 17-4 which was the best stretch in the nba during that time. i can't wait for game 5 saturday.

jebus

I too am a lakers hater, but I couldn't help but smile and appreciate how awesome that last shot was.

I was grinning about how crazy and impossible it was the rest of the night. Glad I tuned in.
I can't believe I missed that game. I would've been furious, but an historic finish is an historic finish. Wow.
I only somewhat hate the Lakers and I have no feelings for the Spurs but I have to say, that was unbelievable. I was watching it at a sports bar type place and everyone went crazy for both shots. I'm so glad I saw that as it happened. Freaking amazing.
Did everybody just miss the Nets Pistons triple OT classic? I caught it from the tail end of the fourth quarter on (yay for sports bars).
Richard Jefferson has become THE MAN.
Brian Scalabrine is my new favorite player.

Okay seriously, as fun as this game was to watch, the only reason it was so close is because these two teams are offensively incompetent. The Nets are poorly coached and the Pistons couldn't shoot.
I don't know if the Nets are poorly coached. Frank wasn't out there missing the free throws.
So how about them World Champion Los Angeles Lakers.
I'm not ready to crown LA yet, but yeah, they're definitely the favorite. Minnesota at least has "a chance" against them, while I truly think the Kings would have no chance in hell.

In the east the Pacers could be an obstacle, what with O'Neill in the paint and Indiana's deep bench. But yeah, there's a very good chance Karl and Gary will be getting some rings in the near future.
Meh, what's the point of qualifiers, it's not like any other team has a shot. If you don't have Duncan or Shaq, you don't win.

Huge Laker fan, but I have to disagree. Minnesota would/will be a VERY formidable opponent for LA.

But in the end I think the lack of experience is gonna kill 'em. Spurs are the epitome of experience now and they couldn't overcome something like Game 5. Last year it was Kobe's baseline smash of a dunk that took out the Wolves so I expect one play or one game to really take them out.

Ill say Cassel and the other guy who's name I am suddenly forgetting have experience but they still don't have the HUGE game experience that will be needed next round.

Can they win? Sure, but I don't think it'll happen. That and the Lakers will try anything to keep Madsen from dancing...

Cassell, owner of two championship rings, has no BIG GAME experience?

Whopp forgot about that *ahem* small detail.

All the same though you have a team that has 5 or so players with 3 championship rings....

So my guess is experience falls more to the Lakers...

Damn this Sac/Minny game is getting HOT!

I fully expect the Kings to lose game 7... and even if they should win I expect them to lose to LA in 6 or 7 games. But to say they have no chance (if Minnesota does) is ridiculous. The Kings have battled the Lakers as hard as anyone over the last 4 years. Either the Lakers have turned it on and will destroy all comers or they haven't... they certainly have the talent, coaching, and experience to do so. But to give Minny a shot and the Kings none is as shortsighted as saying the Lakers were done after losing games 1 and 2 vs. SA.
Spurs lost simply because Tony Parker tanked after his first two impressive games. If the Spurs just happen to grab Kobe in the offseason be afraid.

As for the Kings chances against the Lakes. Well if Webber was in better shape and they had a healthy Bobby Jackson i'd say it'd be up for grabs. As it is they'll need guys like Christie, Miller and Divac to step up and that isn't going to happen. Bibby and Webber will need to play lights out for a chance against the Lakers. Minnesota has more of a chance just based on Garnett when you mix Spreewell and Cassell that means it could be a great series. I picked Minnesota to win it all at first but I have serious doubts now. The Lakers look hungry.

They can't grab Kobe...because their cap space won't be as many think because they have to resign certain players...

I have even more doubts about Minny after this game btw. They look beaten up and one more game with Sac with all teeth and claws bared...they'll both be hurting...and the Lakers will play even more physical then either team...

Basically I won't hand the Lakers the title but they're chances look AWESOME now...
Can I just say I love Sean Elliots "analysis" of the Kings/Timberwolves series?

The reason he picks the Kings is because they know what it takes to win game 7's, especially in the second round. So what does ESPN do? Put up Sacremento's record in game 7's, amazingly enough, the team hasn't won a game 7 since 1981.

Why do I even watch ESPN?

But the Lakers also have an alleged rapist, two guys who are known for NOT being able to win a ring, and a lot of animosity that can boil over at any moment.

They're currently the favorites, but I don't give them that much of an edge over either Sac or the Wolves.

clearly what elliot meant was that the kings know how to win game 7 because they've been on the floor when other teams were doing it!

Yea but basically, if it hasn't screwed them yet, it ain't gonna screw them now after coming back from 2 down to the world championship Spurs who were the best team coming into the playoffs hands down.

Again, I'm watching Sac/Minny today and I'm looking at two beat up teams. And they're gonna beat themselves even more game 7, you can guarantee that and thus with the Lakers getting 6 days of rest...well it doesn't look good for those teams. Will it be a sweep, no. But I don't think the Lakers will lose more than 2 games at most.

Eliot is so full of sh*t it's a wonder it doesn't come out his ears. even after the Lakers won the man was still talking up the Spurs as if they have already won NEXT YEAR's trophy. Needless to say the man shouldn't be on air.
Man, what a game 7 in Minnesota! Webber's shot at the buzzer rattled out!

I can't stand the NBA during the regular season, but hot damn it's fun come playoff time.

KG was the fucking MAN for this game. Holy shit he had a monster game (and it was his b-day).

I'm glad the Wolves won only because the Kings choke so damn bad against the Lakers, plus the Wolves will get home court advantage.
They both looked tired.

I'm looking for Laker win Game 1 on that fact alone...

the kings lost this series three times! which is quite a feat when you think about it. hunter s. thompson of all people summed it up nicely during the last week of the regular season when he said: "The Sacramento Kings lost more than a basketball game on Monday night. They lost their soul and their future, along with the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs and much of their already-wavering self-esteem. Anybody who can't beat the Denver Nuggets in a money game at the end of the season is a silly bet to go anywhere in the grueling NBA playoffs."

I hope the Lakers go on to win now just cuz it'll be easy to whine that they bought their rings and continue to point out since reagan was president only a handful of teams (5?) have won the nba title anyway.
Minnesota wins Yay!!! Your reward is the Lakers good luck. Heh.
Sacramento Kings... always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
It was nice to see Garnett step up, and I've already grown tired of Webber's dissapearing act during games that actually matter.
Insert Opponent of Choice Here:

The NBA Finals already happened, and the Lakers beat the Spurs. Everything now is gravy. (Granted, it may be chunky and not go down so easy, but it will flow. Trust me.)

Lakers in '04.
The game changed when it was tied 67-67, and then LA hit 3 straight 3's and a 2 for an 11-0 run. 78-67 in like a minute and a half.
This is the second time I've seen the Pistons force threes when a quick two would have been sufficient... I just don't get it.
REGGIE.
Anyone see Prince's block? That was pretty amazing. I liked how Rasheed Wallace talked all that shit after game 1, then went 1-for-7 tonight (with two airballs), and still yelled "I told you so!" as he walked off the court. I guess he was right, but he didn't do a whole lot to help out.

That was an unbelievable block by Prince. However, if Miller goes up like a man for that fucking layup then it's a non-issue. I don't know if he just didn't see Prince or if he slowed up to try to draw a foul (idiotic) but I've seen third-graders take it to the hoop harder.

The Basketball Gods will punish Wallace for his hubris. Pacers in 6.
It was a great block, though I was more impressed by Richard Jefferson's block in the previous round.

Anywho, if the Timberwolves don't win game four, this series wont even go six.
Hell of a block by Prince but everything in the east is ugly and boring. I can't even watch. Agreed on the Wolves Monki they need the next game. Cassell's back has screwed Minnesota.
Imagine how great the Laker/Wolves series would be without Shaq around.

Think how great basketball would be without a all the pushing and constant fouling on the inside by mr. shove you out of the way then dunk and get a free throw.
We won't be as dominant but in all honesty...I can't wait till Shaq is gone neither.

The damn team will at least be consistent then. That and if Kobe comes back will certainly be...Jordan.
HA!

You'll be glad when Shaq is gone?

Annoyed by all those world titles?

World titles or not this team has never been what it could be or could've been mainly due to the fact that Shaq has been the leader. His "play hard one game. take several more off" attitude has kept this team from being far more dominant than Chicago in the 90's ever was. And believe it or not you can win a title without him. As hard as that would be but you can.
LA would NOT have won there 3 titles without him. No way in the world.
CT pays attention. The Lakers clearly struggle with Shaq's play here play there mentality.
We are talking about the LA Lakers that have won 3 of the last 4 world championships and are up 2-1 in the current conference finals, right?

If that's "struggling" I'd love to see success.
