The Mask of Zorro 2: Speaking of projects being put to death, Antonio Banderas appears to have done just that in terms of a sequel to the hit 1998 adventure filled re-invention of the franchise. Speaking with Ananova and Czech newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes, Banderas confirmed he's been offered a great big salary to do another entry in the swashbuckling series but will not pick up the sword - "I could have been rich, it would have been $20million for each sequel. But I would prefer to concentrate on other things, theatre maybe". These other things include a desire to work with wife Melanie Griffith: "I'd love to direct my wife in a film. I know that very rarely does it work out when a husband directs his wife, but I like such challenges and maybe it would be successful". Thanks to 'FanHalen' & 'Captain Howdy'.

Nice going shorty. Having fun directing your old wife. This coulda been a spectacular franchise.

Damn it! I loved "The Mask of Zorro" and have been waiting and waiting for the sequel. It could be such a great franchise, and Martin Campbell can be really good.

Antonio Banderas could use this. He hasn't had a hit in FOREVER and this could put himback in business. And why he'd waste time trying to make Melanie Griffith talented is beyond me.

But screw him. Just get someone else. Benicio del Toro could be awesome. You could maybe even have Benjamin Bratt do it.

Didn't he already direct his wife in Crazy in Alabama? I didn't see it, but I think that they teamed up in that.

I too enjoyed The Mask of Zorro. Although the bad guys sucked and were pathetic.

Yeah I concur with the statement of Spy Kids films lol I think Antonio is purely and simply lazy. I remember hearing from Zeta Jones about her and Antonio doing hours of fencing and then dancing. Besides Martin Campbell probably wouldn't direct the next installment so fuck it.

I'll tell ya after seeing The Musketeer I was really hoping it wouldn't hurt the swash buckler type franchises but I think it did. Thanks Peter Hyams/Renny Harlin you fucks! I guess the only thing to hope for next is Pirates of the Carribean.

What's wrong with Spy Kids 3? It's a cool kids series that lets him work with his good friend Robert Rodgriguez on a popular and defiantly hispanic franchise.

It's brainless shite like Ecks vs Sever, The Body and that stupid erotic thriller with Angelina Jolie that he needs to avoid.

Yes, they did. And we all know how well wink that did at the box office.

Though I trust news from Dark Horizons, if it is filtered through Ananova, I am wary, as their track record in the past has not been great.

I guess we shall see in the next few days if the news is INDEED true.
