The Greatest Dunks In History

What is the greatest slam dunk in basketball history?

I'm going with Vince Carter flying over Frederic Weis in the Olympics. I'm not that big a fan of VC, but seeing him fly over 7"5 Freddy Weis was incredible.

Second place goes to the John Starks dunk on the Bulls back in '93.

Michael Jordan on Xavier McDaniel. And Pippen on Ewing.

In college, it's got to be the Grant Hill alley-oop. I hate Duke, but I can't deny how amazing that play was.

Some nice choices. Dominique Wilkins dunk off the backboard in Chicago deserves mention as does Shawn Kemp's facial on that center for golden state (can't remember his name) Alston or somethin?

Tom Chambers on Mark Jackson also deserves mention.

Jordan from free throw line....

Kobe's got a couple good ones to mention....

Robert Horry believe it or not has some good ones...

He turned out to be an idiot, but Isaiah Rider's between the legs dunk in the All Star slam dunk contest back in his rookie year was lights out. That is the one dunk that sticks in my memory.

Anything by Darryl Dawkins. Particularly the "The Chocolate Thunder-flying, Robinzine-crying, teeth-shaking, glass-breaking, rump-roasting, bun-toasting, wham-bam, glass-breaker-I-am jam!", which is what Doctor Dunkenstein called it. That was the one where Sir Slam became the first guy to break a backboard in an NBA game.

Dawkins began to baptize each of his dunks with special nicknames. "I had the Turbo Sexophonic Delight, where I'd swivel the hips a little bit," he recalled. Among his others? The "Get Out of the Wayin', Backboard Swayin', Game Delayin', If You Ain't Groovin', You Best Get Movin'..."]
If Dawkins played now, he would be a media superstar of the highest magnitude.
