Michael Jordan is an @sshole?

I'm not really into sports and I never visit this forum, but I've heard on multiple occassions that Jordan was an ass. This was surprising, as I always pictured him as a stand up guy from what I've seen of him in interviews, etc.

What makes him a jerk? Specifics would be nice.

love him as a basketball player but he seems to be an ass hole in life.
1. Retires from basketball twice and says he wants to spend more time with his family. Builds his image as a family man. In reality he cheats constantly on his wife and would rather play golf, work in D.C. while family is in Chicago area. He's a phony. He married Jaunita cause she got pregnant.

2. He bad mouthed the Bulls organization(mostly ?Krause) causing many FA to shun the Bulls. Reinsdorf paid him 30 million+ when he came back and let him play for his baseball team even though he sucked as a baseball player. Way to treat the team that drafted you.

3. He wants to own an NBA team but doesn't want to put his money in.

4. He charges over $100 bucks for his shoes and they are made overseas in NIKE sweatshops.

5. He rarely if ever tips. Be it for dinner, golf, or at casino's he won't give something for the effort. Barkley busted him on this on Oprah. He's not as bad as Pippen because I have heard stories about him tipping in the past.

6. He drove like a maniac in Chicago. He'd drive 100mph on the shoulder to beat traffic.

That's some. I'm sure others will chime in.

I'm really unsure about the specifics, but people that are as competitive as Jordan tend to be loners. I can see that turning off teammates and the media.

[Edit - After reading Anya's posts... uhm... to respond to 4... I doubt Jordan has much of a say in how much Nike sells their shoes for, and why the price matters, I'll never know. It's not like Nike (or other manufacturers) don't sell other sneakers for more than $100.

Another thing being, since you probably know stuff about the Bulls... why did they get rid of Artest, Brand and Miller? I never understood any of those moves. Or signing Ron Mercer for that matter.]

The he sucked at baseball thing is overblown. It takes regular rookies upwards of four or five years to develop enough to make it to the majors. Jordan didn't play any baseball for fiveteen years (or around there) and then played AA ball for a year and a half. He didn't play enough to make a definative answer on whether or not he would have been good.
They got rid of Artest because he was a nutcase and there afraid he was going to go off like he has in Indiana but worse. Miller was so they could get a scorer in Rose(also even salaries for trade) and because they were so high on Curry.

Brand was a huge mistake. I thought his agent is Faulk, the same as Jordan and Rumor was He didn't want Brand to resign in Chicago So Krause traded him. Brand has played great in LA but his team still dioes suck.

Curry is a bust and Chandler is too injured. They were suppose to be the rebuilding blocks but were failures.

Baseball players don't start at 30+ years of age. It was a vanity move by Jordan combined w/ daddy's murder. He would not have gotten better the more he played.

Well I'm sure as shit glad they got rid of Artest. The occasional flareup is pretty irrelevant in comparison to his D and his scoring.

Early on this could be true... but the "Jordan" shoes have been under his very own label Jumpman for several years now. But you can't deny that the Jordan shoes were costing $100 when everyone else was charging 60 or 70. And that's my two very not worth it cents.

Jordan said he'd investigate the sweatshops in asia after the story broke wide open on their treatment in those Nike factories. To this day he never went and dodges the issue.

Thats a good enough reason already add that to what Anya said and also what Carl could mention and this guy is a complete asshole. Unbelievable talent and skills though.
I hate to say this, but...I....I...agree with everything Anya say!

***runs to shower***

Jordan = first class athlete; Jordan = 5th class person

All I'm saying is that I have no idea whether or not he ever had control over the cost of his sneakers (Jumpman is still Nike AFAIK).

The initial point was that they were expensive (lots of shoes are), and made overseas in sweatshops (lots of shoes are). This bothers people?

That doesn't make any sense. The more one plays, they don't get better? I'm not saying he would have made it to the majors, nor am I denying it's a vanity move. But to just say he sucked is a slap on every minor league player that doesn't make it by their second year.

But most of them start when they are on the cusp of their athletic prime (18-22), not when they're well past it. Never mind that at 6'9" his strike zone was far too big for someone not used to batting.

"That doesn't make any sense. The more one plays, they don't get better?"
So you really think MJ would have done better than his .200 average(or there abouts)? I just can't believe you are defending the BASEBALL career of MJ.

If you are in the minor leagues at 30+ and have never made the majors chances are you won't. If you start your career at 30 and you suck after 1 year you are going to suck in year 2. Except for the great players your skills diminish after 30. He's not a baseball freak like Bonds(would be good w/out juice) and nothing he showed would say he'd learn to hit breaking pitches.

"But to just say he sucked is a slap on every minor league player that doesn't make it by their second year."
Huh? How many minor leaguers have you heard of start in their 30's? Dennis Quaid from the Rookie and MJ couldn't throw 100mph.
Well, I think the reasoning is that he'd need time to adjust after not playing the sport for over a decade.

That "rust" would hurt him far more than his age. Not that I'm saying he'd be any good, but I think it's safe to say that he would have gotten better.

Using 30 year old minor leaguers as a means for an analogy is just silly. They've been in their respective system for a decade, if they were going to show something... they would have by then.

Though regardless of whether or not he was any good, the whole scenario was just ridiculous.

Plus Jim Morris (aka "Quaid in The Rookie") was around baseball his entire life and was a pitching prospect in his teens - before laying off for however many years and freakisly coming back to throw in the mid/high-90s. You want to talk about freaks of nature, put him in the discussion - that shit isn't supposed to happen.

That's the point; regardless, it was an exercise of ego by MJ indulged by the owners of the Sox and the press and public at large. Not a problem, until you factor in that he cost some guy who may have needed that AA roster spot a chance to get it for 2 years in what was essentially an exercise in vanity. At the very least, he should have started in rookie ball.

I'm a big NBA fan and I like to consider both the talent and attitude of some of my favorite players, and the truth is, at Jordan's level, it's easy to be a dick.

For some people, I chalk it up to body language, lack of education or other factors. With him, I chalk it up to him competitiveness. I think there comes a point where you are so good at one thing that you can never really be skilled in another field. It's kinda tragic.

As for Jordan, I believe his rudeness, cruelty towards teammates and uncooth behavior come from his single minded basketball focus.

Although his failure to use his power to make things better for black youths and become a serious voice in the African American community i.e. Arthur Ashe is glaring.

I have heard from a number of casino workers in Vegas that he is rude, does not tip and makes their jobs harder than it should be.

As a surprise, both Dennis Rodman and Kordell Stewart are loved by many of the same workers because they do tip and are much more friendly.

In my opinion, people who do not tip are assholes.
