Viability of a B5 movie....

so, the word is leaking out that B5:TMoS is going to be a film.

questions to all are....

-do you think that a B5 movie can appeal to a wider audience than just the hardcore fans?

-other than the "Telepath War", what do you think the story could be about?

-AICN had a poster who implied he had read the script... has anyone here done that, and is it any good?

just curious,

B5:TMoS

B5:TMoS is a hush project that the Great One (JMStraczynski) has in the works with Warner Bros... prolly to shoot in England from what I understand...

B5 = Babylon 5, TMoS = I haven't the foggiest idea what it stands for...

I'm guessing The Movement of Shadows.

I don't know how the general audience would "get" it, or whether WB would greenlight a film starring Bruce Boxleightner; but I know I'd be there opening day.

Love the B5.

No doubt Bruce will be replaced by Ashton Kutcher and unless Ivanova can fit into a pair of hotpants, she'll probably be played by Britney Spears.

Yeah, this ain't happening, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to see it.

Anything to get him off Amazing Spider-Man writing duties...I'm getting sick of his dialogue, his stories...to hell with it.

The TV series is perfectly good as things stand. The movie industry should concentrate on delivering original and innovative SF.

Of course, if they made a good, successful film, B5 might actually get some well-overdue attention from critics and viewers alike.

If B5 cannot attract such plaudits on the strength of the TV-series, I see little chance of it doing so in a cinematic incarnation.

It would make an awful film.

And the show is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Mine as well Tony and I agree with others in that this would be a bad idea to make a motion picture.

Concur. I'm a fan of the series.

However, I'd correlate it with Star Trek. Very good series, but ass ass for movies.

How are sales of the DVD sets? Strong sales would seem the only justification for a movie as I think JMS was able to accomplish most of what he wanted on the original show.

It might make an o.k. movie, but JMS's strengths seemed to be the big stuff, the season long plots and small scenes that had added importance later on. I don't see those things translating very well to a film.
