Hell of the living dead

Well I brought this on DVD today, it was super cheap and it was a zombie movie so I figured where's the harm in it?

I have only seen the trailer thus far. God Help me. I want to watch it, because, hey I did pay money for it, even if it was fairly cheap. On the minus side, I feel like I will need the world's biggest mind wipe.

Please tell me someone else, somewhere in the world, has seen this movie, and that I am not alone.

I own it, and I love it shamelessly.

It's got that great sleazy feel that you only really get with Itallian horror from the '70's and '80's. It's nonsensical, manic and the "United Nations" scene is an absolute classic.

Bruno Mattei is such a hack, I just love him.

Fireflyfan

Where did you buy it if I may ask?

One of my favorite Italian Dawn of the Dead rip offs!!!

I love this movie!!! Classic bad cinema, but it has such a special place in my heart!

The UN scenes...

The Goblin music from Dawn shamelessly ripped off...

The tutu...

The endless amounts of jumping monkeys and animal stock footage...

Bruno Mattei....what a trooper.

Say what you want about this movie, but it has zombies, blood, tits, and natives running around.

It is a great movie!

The simple truth of this statement amazes me... Seriously.

As you wish. That was my plan all along! Now hopefully you'll not hate me for not liking Cabin Fever.

I absolutely LOVE this movie. Guilty pleasure indeed!!!
Okay on to the Hanging

I really love this movie. Great ending. And the chick who gets naked for absolutely no reason whatsoever is hot.

I'm another one. I love that piece of trash. It's one of my favorite zombie movies.

I proudly admit that this is one of my favorite DVD's in my collection.

Hell of the Living Dead is more fun, but I think Rats! is funnier...

That statement makes about as much sense as the movies in question.

I own this movie on DVD as well. The person who said that it makes Fulci's work look like Orson Wells in comparison hit the nail right on the head. It's really one of those "so bad, it's good" movies.

There's all sorts of wild animal stock footage thrown in for no reason, random acts of cross-dressing, nudity for the sake of nudity, and a score that they "borrowed" from DAWN OF THE DEAD. The writing on this one is as good as the production value on CHILDREN OF THE LIVING DEAD.

with my luck it'll be gone when I stop off over at BB on the way home from work

and it was in my hand the last time I was there

I seem to have that effect on DVDs

if I touch them and don't buy them....they disappear
post #17 of 34
The SWAT guys also figured out how to kill the zombies, then forgot, then figured it out again.
Nowhere else will you see characters know that they must shoot the head, yet continue to shoot off hundreds of rounds at chest level. Genius! Another scene displaying the characters brilliance is at the end. They are sneaking around the factory, knowing full well there are zombies everywhere and what does the SWAT guy do when he hears a noise? He screams "WHO'S OVER THERE?" Then a guy gets eaten while everyone stands there and does nothing. I could go on and on, I think I'll go watch it instead.
snagged the double feature

but alas....the girl is on her way over to go out to eat

this will have to await until tonight

I also picked up Scalps and Social Engineering 101

the one with the original Mr.Bungle

www.usdirectdvd.com it's a region one, but I have a feeling if you want a copy I will probably have one for sale very soon, fairly cheap...

God help me, I actually saw this in the theater when it first came out, when it was "Night of the Zombies." You think it's bad on DVD, try watching it in an uncomfortable chair with no friends around to hear your screams of pain. And yet, I have to admit a certain fondness for it. The stock footage, the freaky faux-SWAT team, the living characters who seem dumber than the dead ones, and the classically downbeat zombie ending. And, of course, the nasty gore. Ooh, there are some mean ol' moments in there.
Crap, i'd forgotten i'd ever seen this until I clicked on this thread. I'm not sure if this brings back pleasant memories or not.
I like the way the Gov't says "We have this native uprising, let's send in some SWAT guys to ride around in a jeep. That'll fix it!"

Plus, you have to like any movie that has the soultion of Third World overpopulation being zombies.

It's just funny how the SWAT guys are thrust into the jungle on the flimsiest excuse possible, as if they were the solution to everything.

And I SWEAR in the scenes where the zombie natives are attacking the SWAT guys, there are some very obvious white guys in zombie makeup trying to blend in.

For all this movie's faults and shortcomings, and even considering it was a knock it out cheap Dawn ripoff, this movie still has much more heart and charm, and yes, even craftsmanship than House of the Dead or Children of the Living Dead.

This movie might be much maligned (thankfully a lot of people here seem to like it), but by no means is it the worst zombie movie out there.

hell of the living dead

My god i absolutely love this crazy movie. Some of the dialog is unbelievably inconprohensible. Its a rip off of dawn, but it does go into different areas, zombie natives, zombie rats getting inside of protective suits, its a cult movie fans dream. I guess it all depends on why you are watching it. If you want a serious horror movie with underlying themes and deep dialog you aint gonna get it here, but if you want a comic book gore fest with crazy acting and bonkers dialog its all here, this movie is second only to ZOMBIE3 (BURIAL GROUND in U.S) in terms of crazy cult zombie movies. If you liked HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD then BURIAL GROUND is a must. HELL is available from ANCHOUR BAY and my copy of BURIAL GROUND is from a dutch label and titled ZOMBIE3

looks like I'll be adding this movie to the list of movies I watch tonight with a nice bottle of scotch
post #27 of 34

rats

rats is bloody good aswell. directed by BRUNO MATTEI. ENJOY
post #28 of 34
This has to be the best double feature DVD ever! I bought it for Hell but was blown away by the extraordinary campiness of Rats.

It's one of my fav DVDs!

Hell and rats

As i said both HELL and RATS have the same director MATTEI a brilliant sleaze merchant. I have nott seen this particular double bill available in the u.k. i have both films separately, the anchour bay HELL has some nice extras and is entirely uncut. They really dont make em like this anymore

I remember when I first started collecting Z-Grade horror DVDs and I saw this one. The reviews all stated how awful it was so I kept away from it. In hindsight it is EXACTALLY the movie my collection was missing. And, my zombie jones was kicking in.
This one falls under the category, "It's so bad...it's GOOD!"
having watched the movie I realized something. One night, a loooooooooooong time ago I saw the end to a zombie movie but always wondered what movie that was. I watched every zombie movie that I could think of but it was never the same one. Watching HotLD I had a feeling "This may be the one!" and low and behold.....the ending. This was the movie that I saw so long ago that has been haunting me. I feel..........a bit more complete.
In his interview "Hell Rats of the Living Dead" on this DVD, Bruno talks about how Rats is basically his NOTLD (just w/ rats not zombies, duh) and Virus/Hell .. is his homage to Dawn (he's even listed as director Vincent Dawn).

This is truly a classic DVD. You have to love how the Japanese documentary footage is "seemlessly" edited into Hell. Great gore too!!!

I dug how Ms.Get Naked painted bullseyes on her boobies

now that spells class
