Anyone here a fan of this director? I loved The Ugly, Heaven (not the Tykwer film - though that was great too) and When Strangers Appear. If you haven't seen these films, do yourself a favor and seek them out.

Last I had read he worked in some way on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Anyone know if he's currently working on something?

The Ugly's pretty good, considerin it's essentially a cliche-driven, grotesque-filled serial killer pic.

But it's got character, beauty and a real flair that lacks in most low budget horror. Reynolds can make art, that's for sure. It's in the Clean/Shaved camp far more than it's in the When The Bough Breaks camp...

No surprise it was mentored (of sorts) by WETA and Peter Jackson who get much thanks and did some of the effects. So I guess it's fairly possible he may have worked on the trilogy (along with the another fairly good kiwi director Geoff Murphy, who may have produced Freejack but he also did my gguilty pleasure Under Siege 2 and a great little Eric Red western called The Last Outlaw)

Missed Heaven on TV the other night. When Stranger Appear's good ? Fango article didn't set me on fire, but I mat check it out if as interesting as The Ugly.

I enjoyed The Ugly, not a bad movie. It seemed to want to be a thinking man's slasher movie, but it wasn't bad at all.
