Exactly how much money will "Spiderman 2" make?

Movie sites and magazines have been giving their predictions of how this years crop of summer blockbusters will perform at te box office. General consensus seems to be that Spiderman 2 will not do the same business as the first.

The general level of excitement/anticipation seem relatively low when compared to the first film.

This seems a little weird to me. the "buzz" seems to suggest that
Spiderman 2 is even better than the first film(which was just as popular on DVD as it was in the multiplexes).

What do you guys think? Will it match or outdo the first film? How do you think it will do at the domestic and worldwide box office?

Feel free to ignore this thread if this has been discussed already.

I think that it will outdo the first. 150% of what the first brought in.

I can't tell you exactly how much that is. This is just a fly-off guess.

I'm thinking it'll do $275 million - $300 million domestic.

You fucking idiot, 274 million.

It'll make more than it really deserves. The first one was mediocre IMHO, but was loved by the public. The sequel will probably make slightly less than $400 million. Maybe $380 million...

I've searched high and low for a picture of paul Mooney in his Negrodamus get-up, but I can't find one, so the humor level in this thread will have to remain low.

$278,368,382.50

I don't know how much it'll make from you kids. But the amount the film makes from me?

John Nada.

Couldn't give a shit less than I already do about this film.

It's not Paul Mooney, but I think this'll do:

I've heard some bad buzz about emergency last minute re-shoots/tinkering---an attempt to avert a middle act disaster.

Django, didn't you love the first flick?

I liked it theatrical. Yet I've never seen the DVD once.

The constant showing on HBO/Cinemax have only shown me why. I don't think it holds up. I don't like the cast.

So I really could care less about Part Deux.

I enjoyed the first 40 minutes (pretty hard to fuck up the Spidey origin), but it was downhill from there.

IMO the first one was good but not great. I enjoyed it, but I thought there was lots of room for improvement.

I liked the cast, and I felt that the film captured the overall spirit of the characters.

My main problems were with some of the fx and action sequences. I won't even get into GG's costume.

The first one was a kiddie flick. Anyone above the age of 12 who loved that is either infantile by nature or a total Spider-Man geek. The build-up was nice but when it comes to action sequences Spider-Man sucks nuts!

The fact that it made 400.000.000 domestic is unbelievable!

This one looks a little more promising but I highly doubt it will reach the success of the first one cause a huge chunk of Spider-Mans audience won't be returning for this one. I know I won't!

A more pertinent question:

Will it bust $100 million by the end of the first weekend?

#1 made $104 mil in three days (+ Thursday previews). I know this one opens on Wednesday, as opposed to the first one opening on a Friday. I'm really wondering if it will do the same HUGE business in the first 5 days as #1 did in 3. And since it is July 4th weekend, I think it will.

But then it will drop fast. Maybe not as bad as HULK numbers, but a big drop nonetheless.

I think it will probably do about 300 million. There is not quite the anticipation the first one had, as many had been waiting years to see Spidey swing across the screen. But it still will be very big.

Meanwhile, outside the underground lair that is the CHUD messageboard, most everybody liked Spider-man. I hear tell they're even looking forward to seeing the sequel!

They liked Shrek too. Damn!

Shrek was a good movie.

And I'll be in Calcutta on July 4th...

I think the first won over a lot of people, especially on video. I loved it from the get go. My gut tells me the domestic gross will be almost identical to the first, possibly a little more.

245million

Well, I'm going to watch it ... so there's 9 bucks or so down ... although that's Canadian - so, what? 3 bucks American?
