The Amazing Spider-get Together

Okay, let's make some concrete plans.

DATE: SATURDAY 17TH JULY

PLACE: MANCHESTER

TIME: AFTERNOON/EVENING

I have space for two on my floor, one of which is being taken up by his Straxness. Expect beer, SPIDER-MAN 2, more beer, an evening meal, and yet more beer.

Just one question remains: Are you in or out?

In.

In my stead, I send warm hugs across the ocean to you all.

Working that night and no idea if i can get the time off.......sucks

There's also a good chance that the wonderful Mrs Dan will be joining us - although I suspect that may be so she can reassure herself that you're all real and that I don't spend my online time "doing a Leslie Grantham".

That would be awesome.

I'm assuming Giles is in, even though he hasn't graced us with his presence yet.
Alas, matters are complicated by the fact that I have to fly to Connecticut on the 18th on this super deadly-dull work thing. I should still be able to go, but whether I can stay overnight that night remains to be seen.

Boo.

Flying from Heathrow or Manchester?
This is the thing. I don't know yet, and probably won't know for about another ten days.

This also puts a bit of kibosh on me giving people lifts back, but again, it may work out. We'll see.

I never thought I would hear the day where I bitched about being flown up to New England, somewhere I've never been, but these meetings are such a trial - there's no small talk, not from breakfast until the end of the evening meal which has been delayed because the meeting agenda inevitably over-runs and when that ends it's dark out and you can't go anywhere and you're knackered anyway. So, yeah. It's a bitch that I have to go, and no amount of reflecting on my spoiled bastardness will make me think that spending 16 hours in airports and the air for the sake of three days of corporate brainstormin is going to be fun or can be regarded as a "perk".

At least I haven't been asked to cancel my holidays to go, like some have.
Cocktastic.

The "dude" is mostly definitely in.

Though I promise not to refer to myself in the third person in quite such a ridiculous and uncrucial fashion.

So: who's spooning with me on Charlie's floor ? (gracious thanks for that by the way, and I shall try as last time and not make any "messes")
Emergency over - I now am officially excused from the Flight To Hell, meaning I'm good to drive folx down and possibly back, depending on how long I stay - I have to iron that out with the mate who'll be giving me houseroom for the night.
What a rather fortuitous turn of events.
Indeed. There are three places in the car, for those wishing to dice with the Grim Reaper.

I'll probably leave on Saturday morning, and come back Sunday sometime, hopefully after lunch since any earlier on a Sunday simply isn't a) civilised or b) me.

(Edited to clarify - for those wanting to attend and needing a lift from the South to the North and back again, I'm good for a lift.))

Bagsy the boot ?

I think you should PM Alice #2 and ask her.
Strax, you've met her in RL, why don't you ring her? She's about till then, isn't she (I thought I heard she was going back to the US)?

But no problemo - I'll tentatively book her a seat.

Charlie, is that the End Of Act 1 power ballad for you new Sondheim-esque musical A Zombie Between Two Morgues ?
Out. Boo-hoo.

Let me put it this way: if I'm in London I'll be working, no doubt. If I'm out of the UK... well I obviously won't be able to make it.

I would have loved to have a London get-together in the next 2 weeks though. But I realise it probably won't happen

You know, I only just looked at that picture, and to be honest, I'm *really* sorry I did.

Shame. I thought the hard work on my abs and deltoids really showed in that pic. Oh well.

I would write some smart alecky comment, but your dangling genitalia make me feel faintly self-conscious and subtly intimidated.

Indeed. They must all live in terror of you down at Magneto's hideout.

Indeed. All tremble before the might of Acorn Cock.

That's kind of non-commercial invention that drove them out of the computer business.
If a fellow wanted to make me tremble with that thing, he'd have his work cut out for him.

*Silence*

Sorry. It was the obvious joke, and I had to get it off my chest.

Ah.

I do feel better now.
I'd love to meet up with all you fellow chewers but I have a little problem, I know pretty much none of you cats. So is it still cool to tag along?
Only if you're the real Dr Venkman. We had a guy turn up once who claimed to be Doc Emmett Brown, but he was just a shop assistant from Luton. We were crushed.
That's pretty much what I did - I just appeared at the meeting point, and mooched about, looking for persons that appeared sufficiently geeky enough to be candidates.

Must say, didn't take me *that* long to locate them...

Although I do remember we pretended to not know what the hell you were on about when you said 'Are you chewers?'...

Venkman - sure, man.

One day I shall reap my rewenge.

The simple way is to look for someone attractive and witty and full of life. That's Alice. We're the shattered, hollow, curmudgeonly husks sitting next to her.

Re: The Amazing Spider-get Together

My lady can no longer make it (no, Giles, that is not an invitation to paw my ass like a drunken labrador) so it's just me for the Spidey glee.

So...let's do this thing. Where? When? How thick? And does that mark come off in warm water?

Re: The Amazing Spider-get Together

Since it worked so well last time, same time same place in Printworks ?

And Charlie, to save the £50 taxi fare, we'll check the last train times, eh ?

Is Elle Callahan still on wheels duty ?

Re: The Amazing Spider-get Together

She is. I'm going to Guilfest on Friday, but should be sufficiently recovered to drove those needing driving up on Saturday.

That said, I'm not bonkers about taking the car into town, as I was rather hoping to drink something and get loud and overbearing and possibly banned from a pub or two for shrieking like a harridan over how the Matrix trilogy is reelly reelly graet, which kind of clashes with the driving agenda. So I was going to pull up outside my mate's place and we could get a taxi to the Printworks from there, or even a bus if you really want to slum it. Chorlton's not far from the town centre, about three miles.

Re: The Amazing Spider-get Together

Ooooooooh! Chorlton is it? Well, lah-dee-dah!

Silence, peasant!

Or else I will beat you about the head and neck with my rolled-up copy of the Guardian...

Okay, I'm ready to book. If you're in, post saying 'yes'.

There's showings on SATURDAY 17TH JULY at 2pm and 5pm, I'm thinking 5 if this is ok?

Also, where do we want to sit? Middle back?

Choose or perish....
Yes.

5 = rad

Middle please.
5 is best. To be there for two I'd have to leave really early to be sure, and I don't do really early. It's simply rude.

And possibly blasphemous.
I don't care where I sit as long as there's room for me to writhe around in nerd ecstasy.

The Fantastic Four: You, Alice, Strax and Me.
Well, there's me, and as far as I know so far, I'm only driving Giles up, unless he's made other arrangements. Wasn't Dr. Venkman considering coming?

The good news is that I am now not going to Guilfest, so people are not staying at my house overnight and having to be hassled out of the door, so things are pleasantly uncomplicated.

Now, if the Suvvenners can suggest a point for me to pick them up, bearing in mind that I am not at all crazy about driving into Central London on a Saturday if we want to be in Manchester at any point before Monday morning, and so they'll have to come out a bit in order to be met, then that's cool. Anywhere near the M25 works for me, though the South and West is optimal.

As for when we leave, It would be nice to meet up beforehand and possibly do some lunch in Manchester, so I'm going to suggest that the pick-up time should be ten, which should get us there about two-ish, depending on traffic and other issues. What do people think?
