The other alternative, of course, is to go down on a Friday night.

Also, wasn't Geoff coming?

Lunch is good. Lunch, followed by wallcrawling, followed by beer and meal is a good plan, I'd say.

Re: Geoff, I haven't heard from him at all, so I guess that's a nay.

Ms C, I can over to the wilds of Sutton and it's ilk fairly easily if that's cool. Or Croydon/Purley. Or I could even head north. Which junction do you join the motorway on ?

I join the M25 at Junction 10, the A3. Then I get off at Junction 16, which is the M40.

Sutton's not far, but Heathrow would be spectacularly convenient, in particular the Hatton Cross tube station. I practically have to drive through the airport anyway.

Plus, it's easy to get to, usually.

Hatton Cross at 10 in the am will be the plan, Batgrrrl.

Be there, or be a trapezoid.

Other persons wishing a Northern-oriented Spidey-related near-death driving experience, let me know and I'll dust a seat off for you.

Do we have a meeting time? I'd suggest about 2pm at the Printworks, which enables us to have drinks and lunch beforehand. Any other ideas?
I'm at the whim of Alice and her horse (hoarse ?) drawn perambulator, but sounds fair.
I was having a think about this, and the current arrangement basically means that Strax will have to cart his stuff all through town all day.

Plus, being there for 2pm might be a little difficult if we are only leaving at 10am.

I was going to suggest that I come via Macc and let him put his stuff down and also pick you up.

What do you think?

That sounds like an exceptional plan.
Due to circumstances out of my control, my money situation is really painful at the moment so it's likely that I'll only be able to meet up for the first portion of the day, and skip evening booze, or vice versa.
That being the case, what with traffic and all things considered, then I suggest the Whiteheaded One show up for evening booze, because over such a long distance there is always the possibility we'll be delayed. In the evening, we'll definitely be there, all things considered. Plus, I hear Spidey 2, unlike some, is quite good so we probably won't have to be liquored up beforehand to appreciate it. Hopefully.
Unless he wants to flee and cry man tears of geeky joy into his huge pillow, I secodn the motion for apres-screening Whitehead action (kid stuff pending, natch). I'm sure they'll be tonnes to discuss.

Charlie -- check last train times to Macc !

Alice: sounds "rad".

Still just us four ?

The last train isn't a train, it's a bus. But it leaves at 11.30pm.

Giles:

Are you bringing sleeping bag, or do you want me to provide bedding (no jokes from the peanut gallery)?

Alice (nearly revealed your secret identity then):

What time will you me arriving at mine? What time are we meeting in Manchester?
Y'know me, sir. I'll crash on the floor under a sheet. It's got to be more comfortble than last year in your burglar trap (which was fine by the way). It's July. All cool.

I guess I'm still meeting Alice at Hatton Cross tube 10am ? I guess we'd be there sometime before 2...

I'll be catching the train into town, so let me know what time y'all are meeting and where, and I'll be there. Also, if one of you can e-mail me with your mobile number, that might be a good idea.

Last train back for me is 11.26pm, so that works out quite well for us all to take a late night stroll to the newly glamorous Piccadilly.
Gotta keep this brief. I'm posting from the hotel. I need to know the meeting place, and probably how to direct my driver there with the minimal American dialect required.

thank god the film was great

We did indeedily. Webslinging liquor-guzzling fun for all comers.

Even AgentOrange had a cameo in the bar.

Pictures may even exist of the blessed event, though matters stopped short at having Joan Rivers comment on the attire of the attendees at the door.
Twas indeed a great day/evening loaded with Chewer gossip and Paul Verhoeven commentaries. Great movie, great people, good booze and...edible food.

It was an excellent day (and an excellent comic-buying follow up on the Sunday, where Strax and I sat in front of Mr Verhoeven on the train).

Great Chinese grub, great company, and a really fucking great movie. Pictures are available, for a catalogue please send an SAE to Alice.
"Edible food?" What sort of talk is that for an Englishman?

It was Manchester. You were lucky it didn't leap off the plate face-hugger style for £20 a head (including a starter and copious booze).

Mine was all right. It was certainly dead, at any rate.

The "Fab" Cafe lived almost incontrovertably up to its name.

If by "fab" you mean a bunch of cackling, chavish hen parties (albeit a few fine arses amongst them) and a darlek.

Not to mention the Millennium Falcon above the bar.

And the weirdly-haired but very doable barmaid, although she committed the cardinal sin of working at a bar by not having access to any kind of fire for my cancer habit.
In my defence, the Fab Cafe was a lot more fun (and hen-party free) when it opened. Of course, I haven't been in since 1999, so things may have slipped downhill a twadge since then.

I also grossly misjudged the distance from the train station to my house, and ended up walking for half an hour to get home, by which time I was completely sober and suffering immense foot pain. Luckily I amused myself on the way by making THWIP sounds at passing pissheads.

Trevor Howard Wanks In Pies.

I knew it ! That's why he hung round the pie shop on the station in Brief Encounter. Cheeky shit.

I now have images of Frankie Howard using pastry desserts to masturbate while Bananarama stand around him molesting him - and worse - singing in my head. Thanks!

As I mentioned to Alice and Giles, I'm having a going away/birthday shindig on August 7th at my house, so if any of you three can make it, you're welcome to attend.

And of course, it was Trevor, not Frankie. Where that came from, god only knows...
Come on, show us some pics!

Too bad I couldn't make it. I'll very probably have to come back to London end of August or September. Fingers crossed.

It's Dillon's birthday on the 8th, so I'm guessing we'll be pretty busy that weekend. I'll make sure we hook up before you go.

Did you watch Old Boy yet?
