The Walking Dead

Just picked up the trade. Friggin' great stuff...Is it true the artist is changing? Anyone see the new work?
The new artist is Charlie Adlard. It doesn't have quite the same feel as Moore's work, but I think it still maintains a similar tone.

I think just about any comic fan would enjoy this book. This is truly one of the best ongoing series in a looooong time.
I really like this book. The new artist isn't quite as good as Moore, but he's still pretty good.

Kirkman's just about the best writer working in comics today. Every month Invincible and Walking Dead come out and are damn good.
This is a great book, finally got the trade and man... It's like an extended zombie movie and a good one at that!!

This would make a great HBO series. I could be done low-budget, kinda like Jeremiah...
There's talk of The Walking Dead being a television series. Kirkman has hinted at this in several interviews (included the one for CHUD), but is very meodest about it. I get the impression that he doesn't want to get his hopes too high when EVERYTHING is in production.

Still it would be cool. What REALLY needs to get made into an HBO series is 100 Bullets.
The ending to last weeks book was awesome (don't want to say in detail what it is and spoil it) and makes me want t his book to come out weekly.
I dunno PE. I remember when Matrix came out, there was a storyline in FF that was the exact same thing basically and neither copied the other. It could be some big coincidence and I'm sure that opening was done before. At least in Walking dead we didn't have to see any weiner in the beginning.
Call me crazy, but I'm just not a fan of the new artist on the Walking Dead. I miss Moore.
While Moore is the better overall artist, I think that Adlard's style is better suited to the tone and subject matter of the book. It has a more realistic quality that a book like this NEEDS.
i got the tpb and the rest up to #8. it is a great book. And the best part is that in the intro he says it will go on for as long as he can. because he thinks zombie movies end right when the good stuff starts, like we all want to know what happens after the credits the most.

Just a little bit more i picked up Remains on the same day. What a hardcore kick ass comic. And i was just called thursday #2 is out and its pulled and in a paper bag waiting for me. Booyah

Also i have Joe R. Lansdale's "The Drive-In" #1-4 on order looks lika really cool comic.

Was disappointed in Remains. 4 bucks for about 12 pages of comic? Blah on it.
anyone know when issue 9 is coming out?
okay issue 9 is the latest issue out. the reason the books ships wierd is because the writer is doing tons of other projects like Captain American etc. have to run out to comic shop today and pick it up. love this eries but wish it came out on a regular schedual. feels like way back in the day with The Pitt
post #15 of 131
Picked up the latest issue this past week. It was all right but things happened a bit too fast in it for me. And yeah, Kirkman is doing about 6-7 monthly books now along with a ton of One-Shot books for Marvel:2099. But lets not compare this to The Pitt until it becomes a year between issues like Pitt 2 and 3 were.
heh ran out to my local comic shop and BAM they where already sold out. just slamed my head against the desk and walked out.

yeah it says what edition it is, on the inside cover at the bottom. not the very bottom, its at the top of the paragraph.

well from what i can tell, (this is all observation, i have no definite evidence) it seems that the only numbers that ever received a second printing were #2 and #7 so far. the word of mouth caused a demand after #1 and after the TPB came out there was a huge demand for more #7's after everyone was caught up. the comic has said that they've upped the # of prints for each month, its like a snowball effect.

One last thing, if you are collecting the TPB too. it apears that it says irst printing on my inside cover. And for 10 bucks i could see this needing a second printing.

just observations!

Another good reason to pick up this comic. If you go to this website, http://www.dynamicforces.com/htmlfiles/p-C101913.html , you can preorder the second TPB for 6.47 and it contains issues 7-12. Less that 7 bucks for 6 issues!!!! Not to mention the kick ass cover!
I love this book but trying to get my hands on a copy makes my head hurt think I might have to try and order it online or do the thing I said I wouldnt ever do again about 7 years ago...restart my instore subscription
post #20 of 131
HAHAHHA finaly got my hands on a copy of it...........man was it depressing
post #21 of 131
Based on all the good I've heard about this comic on this board I went and ordered it from Amazon. I just wanted to say thanks for the excellent reccomendation. Now I can't wait for the next TPB.

Holy shit - just got a copy of issue 9.

This fella pulls no punches.

The love for this comic redeems my faith in humanity.
Issue 9 is indeed the bee's knees. Adlard's art just keeps growing on me, and I personally think that he's better suited to the book than Moore was.

It's a toss-up for me. I liked Moore very much, and liked their team-up on "Brit", but 3 issues isn't enough to make a judgement. Adlard is certainly very good.

I can really see a "Mad Max" future for Rick, maybe a year or two down the road, wandering the wilderness, scrounging guns and ammo where he can find them...
Agreed. There is so much damn potential in this. I can see this going on for a good long time and the subject matter only getting better as the post-apocalyptic situation gets worse.
when does issue #10 hit the stores, anyone?
Picked up the #1-6 trade. Loved it.

The good news is, it gets better - arguments over changing artists notwithstanding. The writing stays strong.

Hopefully next week but considering issue 14 was initially solicited for September, I don't see this book coming out on time too much. I mean, the man is writing about 15 books a month.
The schedule at image comics website has number 10 coming out Sept 9. The funny thing is the little synopsis of the next issue does not even mention what happens as far as the consequences of the last issue with his son getting killed/shot?

I will be amazed if my comic place gets it in that same week.

Maybe better post spoiler warnings, guys.
Well, found out the "official" reason for it being delayed. There was an error in the printing so they had to reprint it. The newest issue comes out Thursday and the next one will come out in two weeks!

And the way this comic goes, the death of the main character would be one of the few things I would consider a spoiler. Everyone else is potential zombie fodder.
"100 Bullets" is my favorite comic, but "The Walking Dead" may very well have to be the "official" comic book of CHUD.com.

I could not be happier that this book is catching on. I think with every single issue from #3 onward this book has INCREASED in sales - which is unheard of.

What I like best is that non-comic book readers make up a huge chunk of the fan base. This book is the perfect example of what I mean when I tell people that there is a comic book out there for everyone. (It might not be "The Walking Dead" but there's one out there for everyone)

I don't know how Kirkman keeps pace - he has 12 issues (of various books - ranging from The Walking Dead, Invincible, Savage Dragon, Super Patriot to Captain America, Marvel Team-Up and more) coming out in September.

"The Walking Dead" is his best work though. I just hope with all the new work, this book still stays on schedule.

Let's cross our fingers for the TV series.

I definitely agree with that. I told a few people about The Walking Dead who do not read comics but like the Romero zombie movies and are now hooked on the book.

Hell, reading Thor's comic column was the reason I started reading comics again.

... I love this book.

Huh??
Does anyone know if someone new is doing the covers? because issues 1-9 had great covers but 10 just didnt seem like it fit in with the rest of them
post #41 of 131
Nope, thats Tony Moore's work. Look for the signature on the bottom right.

yeah in the latest issue kirkman said Tony agreed to continue to do the covers.

and yes the way #10 ended left me very intrigued.

also i noticed they're taking some of the readers' advice and adding more pannels and alot more dialogue. Don't get me wrong i love the idea of a longer walking dead comic but I don't like that the word bubbles take up most of a pannel.
Well issue 11 went about how I expected it to. I was a bit confused as to who actually bought it but I'm sure it will be cleared up next issue. I do wonder what those 2 over-hormoned kids will do now with those guns. Perhaps go all Manson and kill off some people, can't wait for the next ish!
Issue #11 did contain about what I expected in terms of what was in the barn. For the first time, the issue just didn't seem to click as well as the others. Maybe it was me.

Spoiler Warning!

In response to thecallahan, it appears these two lovestruck teens are going to off themselves (so they can be together forever, bleargh).

End Spoiler

Things should get interesting again, as I believe I saw a preview that mentioned that the group ends up hunkering down in a prison. Not a bad idea. I guess this would never had crossed my mind. Apparantly my zombie survival skills are lacking. Kirkman is definately on a roll. I hope the series continues to pick up new readers (and maybe a television series). Of course, by the time this makes it to TV it will be turned into wacky ensemble comedy about a bunch of thirtysomethings surviving the zombie holocaust. Perhaps they could just slightly change the premise of Joey. Would it really make a difference?
-The cool thing is the schedule has the next few issues coming out in rapid succession.

-The cover to issue 15 has Rick on a motorcycle.

-There are some prisons that are skyscrapers located in cities, that would definitely be an interesting place to be during a zombie apocalypse. But i assuming its one of those rural prison communities... Reedsville maybe?

*SPOILERS*

I think just two of Hershel's living kids got killed, and then he also killed his other son who was already in the barn. A few of the panels were unclear in the action; it looked like Hershel got bit or the girl Glen was with got bit, but they never addressed that in the rest of the comic so I assumed I misread it.
Saw it yesterday at the Comicshop, the barn one was very intriguing, is there a book out that collects the first few issues or do I have to wait for that?

A T.V. series on the undead would be awesome, like Kung Fu, only no kunfu and zombies......wandering around the earth......

I gotta say, Rick's son making it was a little too pat...A 7 year old getting shot with a hunting rifle, waking up and cracking jokes?

Otherwise still strong stuff.

Pretty good issue if it was a week late. A little messed up what the owner of the ranch said to the scooby gang though.

Ok, so they find a prison when out of gas (nice nod to DotD) but why the hell does Rick think there will be a handful of zombies to clear out of there? My first though upon seeing that place is, how the hell many zombies could be in all those buildings. It's a good plan to use that as a home, be interesting if they do indeed clear it and if/when how long they can stay.

So I read the letter pages and kinda had my doubts shot down but that's cool. What I did want to point out if any of you don't read the letters. Go to the last page and the last letter is from the master of the rom/com/zom movie, Simon Pegg!
pretty good issue. heres the thing I agreed with the owner of the house. It might seem heartless but he really doesnt owe them anything. I'd be pretty pissed if a buch of people showed up tried to take over my barn then get pissey when I told them to leave.
