The Walking Dead - Page 2

just giving the thread alittle bump because I love this comic so much. Have to admit with issue 12 being so zombie light was happy to see the violence back in full force with 13.

yeah its hard to really say anything. This is just great writing and art. No real shocking moments to discuss or wonder about. It has its share of cliffhangers but they're not really huge so what can one say. I read the letters section every month as Kirkman gives hints to the story line. In a recent one, 12 i think, he said they're gonna be at their present location for a while. So thats good.

I do have to say though his little boy worries me all the time. I don't know what it is. The writing is just so great, i never feel this way reading comics. Well except for maybe Deep Sleeper. That one worried me too.

I wonder what George Romero thinks about this book.Walking Dead is basically a love letter to the zombie genre, which is spearheaded by romero´s Dead-trilogy.

So sad...

The site just falls off the edge of the internet.

I was kind of disappointed that there wasn't alittle bit more time spent clearing out the prison. Thats kind of the pay off, a big zombie killing issue. OTher than that, I love the book.

I can't say enough good things about this title. I haven't been this excited about a comic since Preacher, although I don't really collect anymore. What else is good in the adult comics? If I like this would I like Y the Last Man or 100 Bullets?
Ok, haven't had that much of a discussion lately on this comic but has anyone read issue 15 yet?

Dear god!
Well I've just read the two trades of this (which takes us up to finding the prison) and I have to say I love this series. Its just a shame that finding the individual issues here in London is a seemingly impossible task! I guess I'll have to wait for the next trade

My jaw dropped on that last page... a genuine mystery on our hands in this book. But I think I know why the next few covers look like they do. Awesome issue, I didn't see what that other thing happening in the gym either.
What the HELL! I didn't know what to say. That last page was a shocker

I love that he doesn't write for trades. He just keeps on cruising through all that bull, can't wait for 16, its like month in and out i can't wait to see it in the image solicitation. No comic does that for me but this one.

Kirkman also said in the letters section last month that 18-22 would come out every 2 weeks till they caught up to schedule. thats gonna be a fun ride.

Doc Frank sold out at my local comic shop in a couple hours too. Thank GOD it was on my pulls.

That's different. I guess she's using those zombies to mask her presence? I'd have taken all the teeth out though, just in case. As for the spoiler it won't be what you think. Kirkman talks about it near the beginning of the series and it doesn't jive with what the supposed spoilers are. Of course, the man coulda changed his mind but I don't think so.
I wonder if the bandage on her arm has any significance

A couple of characters tried that trick earlier in the series. They smothered themselves in zombie entrails and waltzed into Atlanta to get guns and ammo.
Which issue had the suicide pack cliff hanger?
i have the first two trade books, does anyone know when the 3rd comes out? Or are they still releasing the ones that would make up the third?

They have a couple of issues left before they release a 3rd, I think.

Maus posted same above, but hey, you can't get enough Walking Dead covers.

I just hope Kirkman doesn't go overboard with the miraculous returns...One of the few weak points of this series for me was when his son was shot in the back, apparently toast, and quickly same back to health...
issues 15 and 16 should be at my door early this week. Can't wait to see what happens!!
Regarding the cover for issue 20, I'm going to guess she's all alone because she's sad about...........losing the baby. As far as cover for 21, yeah it looks like him, but I don't beleive it. I know Kirkman's said noone is safe from getting off'd by his writing, but not him.............yet. Just some thoughts.....

Question: Anyone know in the series how much time has gone by since the zombie outbreak?
Bumping just cause. I wonder if this came out this week. Damn Kirkman can't seem to put this book out on time.
Yeah, it's out. Haven't picked it up yet, though.
pick it up today and was a pretty good issue. I'd go more indepth but figure more people should get a chance to read it first =).
Well not to spoil anything for anybody that hasn't read issue 17 but the cover where Lori is coiled up in the corner all alone may have some more meaning in the context of what happens in this issue.
Man, I'm really hating Rick's wife, hormones or no I cracked a smile when he told her to shut up.
Maybe spoilers below.

What the psycho did to that one girls cheek/face, yikes. I think what Rick did was fine personally, I would have done the same thing. And I see nothing wrong with what they've decided to do about the pyscho. It is interesting to see Rick sorta crack. We never saw what emotions the other people went through as the zombie apocalypse came about.

Is it just me or are the issues over to quickly? I tore through this comic and was done in about 3 minutes it seemed. Anways, good stuff, hope the next one comes out on time.

What happens in issue 19, spoil it for me.
Issue 18 ended with a pretty scary cliffhanger.

Walking Dead 19 summary

Some lady with big swords and Otis fight their way to get to the prison. Meanwhile as Dexter continually tries to get Rick and Co. leave a bunch of zombies come rushing out into the yard. A big blazing gunbattle ensues. Some comment from Dexter makes Rick chew on the thought of killing Dexter, which he does in the middle of the confusion. The lady and Otis reach the compound and we see Rick's facist true colors come out as he demands her weapons. Tyrone (is that his name, too many damn characters) later confronts Rick with his knowledge of Rick shooting Dexter in cold blood, noting his own rule was broken.

And so in one comic Rick goes from being someone I can get behind to someone I want to see get some suffering of his own. He's gone from being confused trying to get back to his family to reluctantly leading them to leader to someone who tries to act like a power hungry dictator in the name of survival.

Of course that last description may be too overboard but thats the sense I got especially in the aftermath of that zombie battle. He kills a guy in cold blood and makes a snide comment about the guy dying. Not a very likeable trait if you ask me. Then he demands someones weapons, as if he is one to demand shit like that after proving he can't be trusted.

Hence, Subotai's reference to the writer's own appraisal of where the comic was going.

I think what we're seeing is kind of a redemption in reverse, Rick starting out as a saviour and gradually losing his grip on eveything moral, spiritual, physical. I have to admit, I had re-read the three trades and Devin's comments about Kirkman's dialogue did seem to have some merit...But the loss of humanity rings true.
I think this does little to make Rick unsympathetic, considering he shot a murderer. But I definitely see this as a big step towards him losing his grip.
Dexter wasn't sunshine. But I don't think Rick is any better now for killing Dexter that way. I guess the point is to see Rick fall down that low because of this situation of trying to survive in the world filled with zombies. But there isn't much room for me to sympathesize with Rick; I don't care if he lives or dies at this point.
I can see where Kirkman is trying to make us like Rick less and less. The thing is I'm not gonna judge him for killing the guy in "cold blood" this is the guy less then a min before was gonna toss Rick and everyone he cared for into the zombie infested country side. He did it not to gain power but because he knew his group could not survive out there. They where barely cutting it as it was without all the roaming zombies.
Thanks for updating me on the situation.

Could be. that pic has been linked a few times now, so people have had time to think about it...Who might it be holding hands, then?
I am hoping that they go somewhere with this latest arc soon. They need to refocus on some plot development instead of the character drama for a few issues, just to keep things interesting. They are 19 issues in and still no clues as to why there are zombies. That's infuriatingly too long to wait for at least a hint. This book is the best one out of the seeming deludge of related books there seem to be out now. Damn Nation is uneven, despite the moody artwork and only having 3 issues under their belt. Containment was OK, but could have used some good editing for the story. That 5 issue mini could have been trimmed down to 3 easily. The rest of the zombie/monster apocalypse books have been sub-par.

Agreed. They might do well to trim down the number of characters.
The amount of characters does make the story confusing sometime, but I wouldn't expect any explanation for the zombie outbreak anytime soon (if ever). Story isn't even remotely about that.
I didn't say I was confused by the number of characters, I just think they have nowhere left to go with the characters that are left. It's starting to resemble ER in that you are just waiting around for the next tragedy to happen. If all they are interested in doing is continuing the character drama out to the conclusion they seem to be hinting at (i.e. everyone either snaps or snaps then dies or randomly dies), I'm not buying this book anymore. The writing isn't that good that they can make this work. All of the tension in the earlier issues is gone now, and they are obviously gearing up for a massive zombie battle, but *yawn* this isn't even interesting anymore. There are shows and books that have been able to pull off a "humanity VS the apocalypse" set of themes better than this book seems to be. He lost me at the "nerdy accountant dude is really a serial killer" two issue arc. He started losing me when the two kids enter the death pact together. Tragedy for the sake of tragedy is lazy storytelling a la ER in my mind.

They could do a decent job with the characters that are left and still give you glimpses of the rest of the world or the "why" behind the zombies. Instead this last issue, what do they do? Introduce yet another new fucking character. The next issue will be the dealmaker for me. I'll give it that much more.

I hear ya. The story arc, since they got out of Atlanta, hasn't been that compelling for me. I think the first big problem for me was when Rick's son was shot in the back, and made such a rapid recovery.
