A while ago it was rumored that the DVD would come out at the end of July but now it's June already and AFAIK no official announcement has been made. I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer for that unrated cut ...

That sounds more plausible. As much as I'd like to get the DVD on July 27th it just isn't very likely, what with no official information and no possibility to pre-order it anywhere ... I guess they'll try to cash in on the whole Halloween horror craze like so many others ... Does your screener have any sort of special features already in place or is it just the movie? Also, is it the theatrical cut or a longer, unrated version?

Interesting. It's September 30th in Germany so it looks like it could come out in Europe before it hits the US in October. I just wonder if it'll have the same special features everywhere ... I'll certainly hold off from pre-ordering any edition before I know the detailed specs and that it will be the unrated, longer cut.

Finally!

I love how the much rumored 25 extra minutes turned out to be "only" 9 minutes. But that's still a lot all things considered. I'm curious how much of that will be violence and how much additional character moments.

And props to them for naming a featurette "Splitting Headaches: Anatomy of Exploding Heads"! That's just great!

That said, there are more deleted scenes on the disc.

I will get the extra version, but I honestly would prefer having a choice of watching regular or special editions, because some uncut versions just dont work as well. Not saying thats the case here, the film will be awesome anyway, but its nice to have a choice (and by choice I dont mean two dvds for $30 with 9 minutes different).

But the extras sound very promising. I hope that special news broadcast featurette is an actual, mock news report on the zombie situation. I have ALWAYS wanted that kind of extra for a zombie flick to add to the realisim, and something like the diary is excellent too.

Yeah, that could explain it. Maybe those rumored 25 minutes is simply the total number of footage that cut and they simply decided to edit 9 minutes back in and provide the rest as a deleted scenes special feature.

You make a good point here. They could have done exactly that with seamless branching, a method they used on the X-MEN disc and a couple others and that allows you to have both versions on the same disc with little more additional disc space required. It would definitely have been possible. Personally I can't think of a single example where I ended up liking a shorter version better than a longer cut (LORD OF ILLUSIONS, WICKER MAN, APOCALYPSE NOW, ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE, DUST DEVIL, MS. 45, AGITATOR, HAXAN, CRASH, PITCH BLACK, AMERICAN PSYCHO) but it's always nice to have the comparison.

I'm looking forward to the "A Special Bulletin: We Interrupt This Program" feature. I loved those news broadcasts from the movie.
